The Total Joint Center of the Northland is pleased to feature one of our outstanding orthopedic surgeons each month. We would like to introduce Dr. Steven Smith, who has treated patients in the Northland for many years: Dr. Smith earned his undergraduate degree from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville Missouri with a B.S. in pre-professional zoology. He played Division II football while attending Northwest Missouri State. He completed his Medical Degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in Iowa City, Iowa and completed his residency in Orthopedics at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. He joined Northland Bone & Joint in August of 2000 and was a partner through December of 2016. Dr. Smith is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery which he received in 2002. Dr. Smith opened his own private practice in January 2017 which is known as Northland Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. He has been the team physician for Park Hill South and Park Hill School District for 18 years. He is also serving as the team physician for Park University and has been for 18 years. Dr. Smith has served as the President of Medical Staff at North Kansas City Hospital and at St. Luke’s Northland Hospital. He has also served as the Chairman of the department of Surgery at North Kansas City Hospital. Dr. Smith’s primary practice focus is knee and shoulder sports medicine, hip and knee total joint replacements and hand surgery. He treats patients with work related injuries, sports injuries, sprains, torn ligaments, and fractures. Dr. Smith shares his thoughts about out-patient joint replacement at the Total Joint Center of the Northland:
