Local, small businesses are the fiber of our community. As I travel around town, I’ve met some exceptional people that all have a story of their own. These aren’t just business owners. They’re our friends and neighbors. Their core values go far beyond making money. Their focus is on family, faith and most of all, helping others.
As you flip through these pages, you’ll be drawn into the incredible stories behind these people who call New Port Richey home. We will also share the history of our city and highlight local events and outreach efforts throughout our community.
I could not have brought this publication to you without the help of my amazing editor, JoAnn Chang, and the best photography and content providers, Lux Content Co, Brandon and Rose Fabian. We’re all proud to bring these stories to you each month.
I hope when you sit down to enjoy the magazine, it inspires you to go get that facial you have been talking about, go out and have a great dinner instead of cooking, and take a dive into a late-night swim in an amazing pool!

EXPLORE HOW TO ADD LIFE TO YOUR HOME THROUGH ART
Home. It’s more than wood and concrete. It’s a sanctuary. A place to be ourselves. Every chair, curtain and tchotchke says something about who we are and what's important to us. When we’re young, decor often amounts to whatever hand-medowns we collect as we move. As we settle down, the desire to express ourselves often takes root. Nothing reflects personal style more than the art we choose for our home.
The hard part can be where to start. “Unfortunately, a lot of people choose their art first for what everything else looks like and they try to match that. What’s important is what you feel, what you see, what you visualize. What speaks to you is what’s most important,” shared Brad Robertson, local artist, and partner in Robertson Gallery. “If you put art in your house, it has to be something you enjoy looking at and seeing every day.”
“Art is a language of its own. When you find a piece, it's essential in decorating an
environment, but it also needs to evoke a feeling, an attachment you have with it. Finding that piece you can connect with is everything and becomes more personal for you that you can share with others,” said Natassa Kouromichelakis, interior designer and partner with Brad in Robertson Gallery.
If you want your home to truly reflect your personal style, the best path is to start with a blank slate. “Forget you have anything else in there and start from your art. Figure out what speaks to you, and
“WHAT’S IMPORTANT IS WHAT YOU FEEL, WHAT YOU SEE, WHAT YOU VISUALIZE.”
you build from there. Then organically, it just creates its own space. When you tie it around an art piece, that speaks volumes to anyone who sees it. For the owner, for guests, they will know this is thought out,” stated Robertson.
“It’s not only aesthetics. Of course, it will elevate your home aesthetically, but it becomes something personal, something raw, something you want to share,” said Natassa.
Many choose their home decor to evoke a theme or to reflect the local environment. If you choose art that speaks to you,
and design your space around it, it will elevate the space beyond what you find at your local department store. “Some of the landscapes I do in blues that look like water scenes. People in New York City will gravitate to those just as much as someone in Michigan or someone down here in Florida because it reminds them of a place. They don’t have to be there, but they can go into that painting and see that place. It just brings that back,” shared Brad. “It leads back to that emotional connection,” said Kouromichelakis.
There are several options to try when exploring your personal art style. If you’re willing to commit to the time and effort, you could attempt to make your own art. If you don’t have the time or interest in getting your hands dirty, those on a tight budget can source art prints. Many local stores carry a range of offerings to explore your personal style. Those with more funds to commit will be rewarded by selecting one-of-a-kind custom art.
“Prints will fill spaces on a budget. When you’re buying a piece of original art, you’re investing. It lasts forever. It’s timeless,” said Robertson. “That’s the beauty of art. You can pass them down to your children,” added Natassa.
If you need more help, contact a local gallery for one-on-one guidance. Robertson Gallery, located at 5404 Main Street in Downtown New Port Richey, offers personal art consultations, custom canvas printing as well as many other art services.

Nothing says spring like the aroma of fresh-cut herbs in a crisp, cold, cocktail. With warmer weather finally here, growing herbs at home can transform your cocktail hour and add a fresh kick to your springtime favorites.
Growing herbs is incredibly easy and can be done in a variety of ways—from a container in a window, to a planter box in the yard. With a container or garden full of fresh herbs, you will be ready to take your cocktails up a notch.
Basil is a bright herb that is easy to grow and perfect for cocktails. Make sure to harvest immediately before mixing drinks and take leaves from the top to ensure a continual harvest. Fresh muddled basil leaves lend a crispness to the Gin Basil Cucumber cocktail.
Sage is easy to grow and does well in containers. The leaves add an earthy freshness to a refreshing cherry-infused Bourbon.
Mint is also easy to grow, but give it lots of room, as it likes to spread out and is virtually indestructible in the garden. Mint is a versatile herb but is especially lovely in the Rhubarb Mint Mojito.
Try recreating these refreshing cocktails with herbs grown at home and take your cocktail game to new heights!

• 2 oz. cherry-sage infused Bourbon
• 0.75 oz. apple brandy or apple jack brandy
• Place over an ice ball in an old-fashioned glass
• Top with ginger beer and garnish with Bordeaux cherries and leaf of sage
• 2 oz. white rum
• 1 oz. rhubarb puree (2 cups rhubarb, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup water)
• 0.5 oz. fresh lime juice
• 8-10 fresh mint leaves
• soda water
• lemon-lime soda
• ice
• Muddle mint, lime juice, and rhubarb puree in a glass or small cocktail shaker
• Once muddled, add the white rum and ice
• Top with large cocktail shaker and shake for a few seconds
• Remove large shaker and pour everything into a glass
• Top with more ice
• Add soda water and lemon-lime soda (equal parts to your liking)
• Garnish with mint leaf and lime wheel
• 2-3 fresh basil leaves
• 0.5 oz. fresh lime juice
• 0.25 oz. simple syrup
• 2-3 cucumber slices
• 2 oz. gin
• tonic water
• Muddle basil, lime juice, simple syrup and cucumber slices together in a small cocktail shaker
• Add gin and ice to cocktail shaker
• Shake well
• Strain over an ice ball
• Top with tonic water and garnish with basil leaf and a cucumber slice
supplies you’ll need:
• Wooden bowls, trays, etc.
• Gold leaf (or metallic gold paint)
• Gentle Gold leaf brush
• Mod podge (or gold leaf adhesive)
• Acrylic paint
• Paint brushes
• Painters tape (optional)
• Grab a wooden bowl, some acrylic paint, and a brush.
• Hand paint some paint on one section of the bowl.
• Let the first coat dry and paint another two to three coats of paint until you’re happy with the result.
• Let the paint fully dry.
• I wanted my gold leaf paper to overlap the paint for a layered look, so I took a paint brush and painted some Mod Podge in an overlapping pattern.
• Once the Mod Podge gets tacky, use your hand to apply the gold leaf and accompanying wax sheet.
• Push the gold leaf onto the tacky glue, then remove the top layer of paper.
• Use your fingers to gently push the gold leaf onto the glue a little further.
• Next, use the gold leaf brush to smooth over the whole area and gently wipe away any excess gold leaf. Pay extra attention to the edges.
• Next, smooth the gold leaf section as much as possible, but don’t worry about any imperfections. The organic look of the gold leaf being imperfect gives the piece character.
• Next, work your way to the outer edge.
• Once the gold leaf is perfected, gently brush over the leaf with some Mod Podge to seal it to the bowl.
• Let it completely dry and enjoy!
“They’re a great and affordable gift idea for friends.”
HGTV star shares her secrets to make a home look both beautiful and livable.
Tamara Day, star of HGTV’s Bargain Mansions, describes her style as “laid-back luxe.”
“I am a mom of four, and I like pretty, shiny things,” Tamara says. “The two don’t always mix well. I design with lifestyle and family in mind but with that touch of glam.”
This mixture of practicality and flare can be accomplished throughout the home on a budget, Tamara says.
When it comes to the kitchen, she says replacing the backsplash is one of the most cost-effective ways to refresh the room. Additionally, she says paint is the most inexpensive option to update cabinets, and there is a de-glosser on the market that will reduce the labor involved by helping paint adhere to cabinets.
“You can get a whole new kitchen with some fresh paint,” Tamara says.
In the bathroom, Tamara suggests putting up new light fixtures and wallpaper for a fresh look. She suggests using wallpaper on just one wall to create contrast.
“Wallpaper transforms everything and puts in a hominess factor,” Tamara says.
To give a new feel to the living room, Tamara suggests using decorative pillows as well as displaying design books and layering with a candle or other interesting object to create a sentimental focal point. She also suggests investing in good, quality sofas
and rugs because less expensive options will not typically withstand the amount of wear and tear they receive from a family.
Overall, Tamara says there is a balance between mixing expensive and inexpensive items and materials around the home, all without having it looking cluttered. She says every space needs something that is thrifted.
Tamara finds many people enjoy elements of different types of styles and have a hard time defining their personal style. To help narrow down to a preferred look, she suggests taking a hundred room images and sorting them into piles of likes and dislikes. She says when someone completes this exercise, they typically find a theme to their preferences.
Tamara has a natural eye for using great colors and textures in design. What is her approach to making a room look great?
HERE ARE TAMARA’S TOP TIPS:
Find a base color with pops of other colors.
“Every room needs a touch of black and a pop of color,” Tamara says. “The black will anchor it, but the color will give it life.”
If the home is urban, she suggests more bold pops. If it is a traditional home, use a mixture of colors. Additionally, she suggests using one basic color throughout a home with pops of other colors as opposed to having a different color in each room.
Consider wallpaper.
“Wallpaper can be scary for a lot of people, but there are so may wallpapers out there that are removable,” Tamara says.
Tamara says wallpaper adds texture and warmth, and she includes it in most of the homes she designs.
Layer with baskets, blankets and greenery. All three make a room feel cozy and add color and interest to a space.
