YAY for Fall! As the leaves begin to change and the temperatures cool, our cravings shift toward comforting flavors that warm both body and soul. October is one of our most delectable issues of the year, and this month we’re celebrating the food and drinks that make our city such a delight for the senses.
We are so privileged in New Braunfels to have so many places to grab a bite to eat or drink. From coffee shops to tea shops, to wineries and cocktail bars with delicious food to complement it, we are so blessed to have the variety for whatever your taste buds are craving at that moment. In this issue, we have included some fun places to try that have their own natural flair of culture and love they bring to their food and drinks. We have included some incredible recipes for you to try at home—perfect whether you’re cooking for family or entertaining guests. For me, the smells of cinnamon, apples, pumpkin, and vanilla bring back some of the sweetest memories I have had over the years. There is nothing better than cozying up with a fall cup of coffee in the brisk morning air or watching football on Sunday with a fall cocktail and an apple crisp baking in the oven.
There’s an art to creating a dish that not only satisfies your taste buds but also stirs memories of home. Food has a unique way of connecting us to our past while bringing us together in the present. Whether you’re enjoying a meal out with friends or hosting a cozy dinner at home, these shared moments are what make life flavorful.
Here’s to savoring every bite and sip this fall,

Step inside The Tea Charmer, and you’re instantly transported to a slower, softer pace of life. Owner, Jayna Owens built the tearoom to create a space for people to stop and have a place of respite and be able to create that within their own homes. She wanted to bring a peaceful pause to New Braunfels, giving guests a space to relax, recharge, and savor the moment.
The Tea Charmer’s menu is as much about flavor as it is about feeling. Teas are selected by taste from U.S. distributors who source from India and China, ensuring every blend is a winner. The shop’s “Happy Tea”—a jasmine- and hibiscus-infused green tea—is a best-seller and an ideal starting point for new tea drinkers. For winding down, the Sleep Blend is a fan favorite. With chamomile, lavender, and other soothing herbs, it’s flavorful, calming, and— according to one loyal customer—worth sending your spouse in to buy if you’re too embarrassed to admit you love it.

First-timers are guided through the tea selection with scent jars, flavor questions, and $15 sample packs that let you taste every tea without committing to a tin.
The Tea Charmer’s main attraction is its high tea and party experiences. Each event is planned down to the last detail by their in-house party planner and baker, who also handles gluten-free and special dietary requests. Every table features plain scones with house jams and curds, mini cakes, macarons, cheesecake bites, fruit tarts, seasonal savories, complimentary champagne, and, of course, full tea service.
Soon, guests will be able to take home exclusive, private-label jams and spreads—20 to 30 varieties only available in New Braunfels.
From elegant baby showers to the much-loved Wassail Fest (where five gallons sold out in 45 minutes), The Tea Charmer knows how to host a crowd. October will bring “Tea at Five,” a Sunday theater event featuring the life of Katharine Hepburn and intermission treats. Little guests get their moment too, thanks to monthly Disney Princess teas in partnership with Once Upon a Party.
For those who just want a quiet cup, the tearoom now has a “Cup-of-Tea” table where guests can choose any tea and teacup for $9.99 a pot and enjoy the view. Seasonal blends like pumpkin tea, chocolate chai, and Christmas tea keep the menu fresh, while festive candles and décor add to the charm.
At The Tea Charmer, the tea is hot, the champagne is chilled, and every visit feels like a well-earned break.

Water 2 Wine shares simple tips to make food and wine pairing easy
At Water 2 Wine, wine isn’t just poured—it’s an experience. With more than 40 wines made on-site, every guest can find a perfect match, whether sweet, bold, or dry. Visitors can even craft their own vintage in the 2,000-square-foot cellar, then host a bottling party complete with custom labels and corking. From tasting to bottling, it’s a chance to be your own winemaker.
This German white is lively and aromatic, with notes of honeydew melon and a subtle gingery finish that brightens every sip. Its signature balance of fruit and spice makes it an adventurous wine, perfectly suited for foods that carry heat. Pair it with Thai curries, Indian dishes, or anything layered with chili and ginger. The Gewürztraminer’s natural sweetness ensures it won’t disappear behind bold flavors, instead creating a contrast that highlights both the food and the wine. It’s also a crowd favorite for those who enjoy whites with personality—crisp yet smooth, refreshing yet complex. For lighter pairings, try it with sushi rolls that incorporate spicy sauces or ginger, where the wine’s subtle bite will echo the flavors beautifully.
Pinot Noir is the ultimate versatile red, and this Chilean variety delivers with a lighter body and smooth structure. Notes of red fruit give it an approachable, elegant quality that complements a wide range of dishes. It pairs beautifully with lighter red meats, roasted poultry, or even venison, making it a go-to for game season. Its balance of fruit and earthiness keeps it adaptable without overwhelming the meal.

Simple mammogram screening steps that fit into everyday routines
Over coffee or between bites at your favorite brunch spot, it is easy to think of self-care as a plate of fresh fruit or a green smoothie. Whole health includes meals, company, and the routine checks that help you keep living well. River City Imaging Centers brings that idea into focus during Breast Cancer Awareness Month and beyond.
With two local sites, River City offers screening mammograms at the Oak location and both screening and diagnostic imaging at Common Street. The Common Street site also has breast ultrasound, Dexta bone density scans, MRI breast scans at both sites, and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy when more study is needed. “Many patients pair a Dexta scan with a mammogram for one visit,” said Amanda, X-ray technician at River City Imaging Centers.
At River City, screening fits into everyday life. You start with a short health form that asks about family history, pregnancies, hormone use, and other things that feed into a risk score. That score helps the team decide how closely to watch over time.
The exam itself is quick (usually about ten minutes) and your technician will walk you
through each step so you know what to expect. Simple prep, like skipping deodorant and lotions, helps get a clearer image. Afterward, results go to your doctor for review. A callback for extra pictures is often just a way to gather more detail, not a cause for panic.
Many patients treat a screening visit as part of their whole health. Keeping breast screening in the same conversation as food, rest, and daily habits helps make it part of a steady, local routine rather than a one-off chore.
River City asks readers to be their own health advocate, to know the services nearby, and to keep breast health as part of a whole life that includes good food and good company.

Open year round, rain or shine, so bring a bag and a smile
Each Saturday, New Braunfels wakes up to a market full of good food and smiling faces. Head downtown and you will find a lively patchwork of tents and tables. The New Braunfels Farmers Market is a place for good food, small talk, and surprise finds.
You can buy locally grown fruits and vegetables, flowers, dairy, baked goods, pasture-raised meats, fresh cheeses, wines, eggs, and much more. Chefs, food lovers, and craft fans will find treats for every taste. The market helps our local sellers thrive and gives neighbors easy access to healthy, fresh food.
The market hosts more than 60 vendors each week. Farmers, ranchers, growers, and artisans share produce, pantry items, pet care goods, home and personal care products, and ready-to-eat meals. There is live music every Saturday, which keeps the mood bright while you browse.
Bring the kids and bring the dogs. Make a morning of it with coffee and a pastry, then pick up dinner from a favorite food stall. Try a new cheese, taste a craft syrup, or grab fresh tortillas and hot tamales. If you love to shop small, this is your kind of place.
Open year-round, rain or shine, the market runs every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. You will find it in Historic Downtown New Braunfels off S. Castell Avenue. Keep in mind that holiday hours may change.
At its heart, the New Braunfels Farmers Market is about people. It is farmers sharing their crops, makers showing their work, and neighbors swapping recipes. It is a Saturday habit that feels like community.
The market's mission is to improve access to local, nutritious, and affordable food while supporting local farmers and artisans. It creates chances for new businesses to grow, letting neighbors eat well.
Stop by and see why so many call it Texas's favorite. Grab a bag, say hello, and take a little piece of New Braunfels home with you.

Crafted with a balance of comfort and deliciousness, this turkey and Swiss cheese sandwich offers a modern twist on a timeless favorite. Nestled between two house-baked buns are layers of oven-roasted turkey breast, melted Swiss cheese, and a thinly sliced red onion. This is all topped with a special mixture of goodness, while a handful of fresh spinach introduces color and an earthy freshness that brightens every bite. The finishing touch? A velvety, homemade sauce, tangy & garlic-y with a hint of sweetness, tying all the ingredients together.
Lost & Found is the place to grab a drink and some appetizers after a long day. Craving some street tacos? With fresh corn tortillas, flavorful meats, and lucious salsas and sauces, you can't go wrong. Wings are another popular shareable here, and these ones are rotisserie style, making them fall-off-the-bone delectable. The drink menu also has many one-of-a-kind items like the Fuzzy and the Tex-Presso Martini. The Fuzzy is a whiskey sour...with a twist. Freshly made Hefeweizen syrup gives this drink a malty taste while the lemon gives it a bright pop. Love On The Grind? The TexPresso Martini features their cold brew alongside Ranch Texas Made vodka, espresso, and cinnamon, making it the perfect way to start your evening or simply relax.
Named after his wife, Christina's Chicken is the go-to dinner that is sure to round off an amazing day in New Braunfels. Grilled chicken gets its moment with sage goat cheese, dried cranberries, and lemon butter white wine sauce. But the deliciousness doesn't stop there as the chicken is paired with fluffy mashed potatoes and citrus garlic pepper veggies. No meal goes without The Birdhouse's signature cornbread that will perfectly soak up that amazing white wine sauce. Pair your meal with a Rombauer Chardonnay, and this will become your go-to spot when you want to get out of the house and let someone else do the cooking.
COCKTAILS: GRUENE'S LAST CALL
Smoky. Tropical. Tequila. Autumn in Oaxaca is the drink you’ll crave all day. Mi Campo Blanco and 400 Conejos Mezcal lay down a smooth, smoky agave base. Pineapple juice and Queen Caribbean Bitters bring a burst of tropical spice that lights up the mezcal. Maple cinnamon syrup adds a warm, fall-inspired richness, perfectly balanced by a bright splash of lemon juice. From the moment that sweet, sugary rim hits your taste buds all the way to the lingering smooth and spicy finish, this drink delivers comfort, complexity, and a little bit of magic in every sip.
Perhaps the most exotic margarita in Texas, the French Margarita is exclusively available at Goodwins. This original recipe is lush and layered with citrus notes that add a touch of sweetness. The Reposado Tequila creates a smooth, oaky base that is softened with the French cognac and brandy, and is finished off with the bright taste of the Grand Marnier. There’s nothing quite like it.

• 1/2 oz Gran Marnier
• 1/2 oz Martel Cognac
• 1/4 oz Benedictine
• Juice of one whole lime
• 1/4 oz agave nectar
Directions:
Step 1. Combine ingredients in a shaker cup filled with ice.
Step 2. Shake vigorously.
Step 3. Strain over fresh ice into a footed pilsner glass.
Step 4. Garnish with lime wedge.
Step 5. Enjoy!
