And Buckhead's own goldsmith and creator behind the jewelry is calling loudly to her many followers around the country with her eponymous line. After having a career as a successful interior designer and owner/creator of an international women's clothing line (featured in stores like Nordstrom), Andrea Becker decided to listen to the voice within her heart and learn the ancient methods of goldsmithing. "There I was, a mom with middle and grade school aged kids living in New Jersey, and I knew I had to press re-start and honor the calling in my heart to create one-of-a-kind pieces you could wear from yoga to a PTA meeting to the beach to a charity ball, all in the same day if you had to," Andrea says. So she decided, with a nudge from her sister and support from her husband, to go all-in and apply to train with the very few Master Goldsmiths (such as Fredrika Kulicke), in the heart of the Diamond District in New York. Student by day, mom and wife by night, Andrea set off to learn how to create pieces that honored the centuries-old traditions, while incorporating the colors that stirred her soul, and trend-forward styles she was drawn to, combining both old and new. Learn she did, and upon finishing training she was already well on her way as she started her own line, Andrea Becker Design. We recently caught up with Andrea Becker in her Buckhead studio to ask her a few questions about both her popular jewelry line and what brought her business to Atlanta.

PNL: Why the sudden change of careers when you own a super successful business mid-life? AB: I was overseas sourcing fabrics and attending a global trade show and missed my daughter’s birthday. That was my breaking point (and hers!). I knew I wanted to create something, but I wanted complete control of the design process--from idea, to materials, to creation, to your hands. PNL: What drew you to jewelry and goldsmithing? AB: I've always loved hand-created jewelry pieces with high karat gold. Every year I would wait excitedly for Christmas when I knew my husband would add to my collection from my favorite goldsmith, Gurhan. There was just something about the fact that gold comes from the ground, and would withstand centuries of changes even if found today. It spoke to me in a way I can’t explain. PNL: You draw much of your design inspiration from the beach – why is that? AB: I know the beach is a healing happy joyful place for just about everyone. I’m not going to design anything that isn’t representative of the colors, of the feeling, or of the freedom of truly connecting with Andrea Becker
our souls and with others, like my family does at the beach. PNL: Your motto is “Let Your Spirit Flow.” What does this mean to you and your clients? AB: Every piece I make is handmade, and whether it is a limited run piece or a commissioned piece, each is unique and made specifically for the woman that will wear it. I channel their spirit when I am creating it, and just as no two women are alike, neither are my pieces.

When Sarah Heiserer, Brookhaven resident and fashion admirer, had her daughter three years ago, she couldn’t find a children’s clothing line with the minimalistic, neutral and easy-to-wear look she was searching for. In 2016, Sarah took matters into her own hands and created e Lou, the less-is-more clothing line for 6M - 4T inspired by the spunky and independent spirit of her daughter, Emme Lou. Sarah’s vision for e Lou style bucks the Southern tradition of monograms, smocking and tulle. The brand is dedicated to a fresh take on childrenswear, bringing a laid-back West Coast vibe that can be hard to come by in Atlanta. Each e Lou piece is intended to be worn for everyday play or a special occasion. Each style is versatile and features several of the most popular pieces as gender neutral options. As an Atlanta-native, living in Brookhaven was an easy decision for Sarah and her husband, Hans. Their charming home was once owned by Hans’ mother and is the perfect setting for Sarah to draw inspiration for e Lou. The appeal of city living blended with their quaint neighborhood allows Sarah to strike the balance between entrepreneur and mother. Having shops and restaurants like Savi Provisions and Valenza within walking distance make for special date nights and convenient snack runs for Emme Lou. From the moment you meet the mother-daughter pair, it’s easy to see the incredibly special bond that Sarah and Emme Lou share. As the muse of e Lou, Emme Lou not only models the clothing but also 22

wears the pieces every single day. The wearability of the line is an extremely important design feature to Sarah. Whether Emme is playing at Chastain Park, out at lunch with Sarah at Kale Me Crazy or dancing through Brookhaven while listening to Bruno Mars, e Lou is appropriate for every busy toddler. As a busy mom and designer, Sarah has to admit that she doesn’t have much time to shop, so when she does it’s almost always online. When she does have the opportunity, you can find her browsing Planet Blue and Warby Parker in The Shops at Buckhead or Sugarboo in Brookhaven for Emme Lou. One of her favorite brands is Free People which embodies her breezy California personal style. As for fuel for her busy life, Sarah sticks to a mostly vegan diet. She loves dining at True Food Kitchen and Cafe Sunflower. Her latest obsessions is SAMA Food For Balance where she orders the pita bowl and a charcoal lemonade. As a serious beach fanatic, Sarah is passionate about marine life and ocean conservation. e Lou actively participates in the 1% For The Planet initiative donating 1% of total sales to organizations dedicated to the preservation of the sea. Sarah hopes to continue to expand the e Lou line with new designs and just released a successful summer launch. The latest additions to the collection include a ribbed bodysuit, a tiered romper and high waisted leggings that will make any mom-on-the-go envious. Sarah’s attention to minimalist detail is the common thread among all e Lou pieces. Whether a garment features delicate buttons, a tie closure or a breezy silhouette, each item is easy to style and easy to wear. I’m nearly blind in one eye, so I depended on the staff for their honest opinions while trying on frames. I trusted them to help me look like a better me. I gravitated toward the styles designed by Gazal herself. The shapes, colors and sturdiness of her frames were appealing and varied, making the choice a challenge and the process super fun. Together, we chose a sassy frame and Andy promised my heavy prescription would be managed thanks to his quality lens manufacturer - the very best in the industry. Gazal Eyewear opened in Roswell this summer, the couple’s second full-service optical boutique. Their first successful shop, Atlanta Vision Optical is in town (at Edgewood, near Inman Park) and celebrates its tenth anniversary this year. Gazal’s inspired line was first launched there alongside styles by Jacques Marie Mage, Lindberg, and Dita Eyewear. They chose Roswell for their second business, as a homecoming. “We lived off Crabapple for years before moving closer to the Edgewood location. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU HAD AN UNEXPECTED MOMENT OF HAPPINESS ( UMOH )? The people who put the POP in King of Pops hope it was when you had one of their popsicles in hand. Two brothers, Steven and Nick Carse turned their pushcart business into a dream come true on UMoH at a time. The pops originate from the King of Crops which is a farm in Winston, Georgia. The locally sourced produce goes straight from the farm into the handmade pops. A few unique flavors include blackberry ginger lemon, chocolate sea salt, sweet tea n’ lemonade, banana puddin’ and raspberry rosewater. Some festive seasonal favorites include Mexican chocolate, pineapple habanero, and watermelon mojito. The farm manager grew up in Brookhaven and is now very happy to be giving back to the neighborhood that raised him. Grab a pop at farmers markets nearby. Join the Salad Club and pre-order locally grown produce--it'll will be ready and waiting at the rainbow umbrella. The happiness does not end there. King of Pops is a huge supporter of their community as a nonprofit organization. They give back to the community through programs such as Quality Care for Children (QCC) helping alleviate the problem of Georgia’s summer food gap and Life Line Animal Project (LLAP) working to end the euthanasia of healthy and treatable dogs and cats in Dekalb and Fulton counties. King of Pops has made many visits to elementary schools through their Little Kings program teaching young school children about setting up businesses and how to reuse foods in ways such as composting. 28
