BALLITO TO UMHLANGA

The ties that bind

M

Y colleague and I were invited to attend the 20th birthday of Siza Water recently. We were treated to a memorable evening of multicultural dance, and five-star food from The Fairmont Zimbali, but the most poignant moments came from the speeches (which is most unlike the majority of these dos!).

Ilembe Chamber president Andrew Horton reminisced about the early days, when Siza Water (in its numerous guises) became the first private water and sanitation service to join forces with government in South Africa. They were, in many ways, blazing a trail. In 1999, the former Dolphin Coast Transitional Council (DCTC) faced the mammoth task of fixing a deteriorating sewer network, containing massive water 31 August: Kasi Cooking losses, and addressing the Chef La Phumza (Jacob Mthembu) of increase in demand, all while WOWZULU – Kasi Taste restaurant in delivering clean drinking Ballito is hosting a cooking class on the water. What to do

What we see is only the final product of these efforts. As with any marriage, we cannot fully comprehend the inner workings, the persistent obstacles and hurdles, the discussions and negotiations. And, like most successful marriages, you have to weather the storms. (If only those storms would bring more rain.) I was reminded of this theme once more while interviewing fashion design icon, Durbanite Terrence Bray, who dresses the likes of Princess Charlene of Monaco. I don’t mention this in the article, but standing firmly behind him is his partner, John Bleach. One gets the sense that perhaps John is the foundation from which Terrence can flourish. Quiet, organised, efficient, supportive; these are the words that I perceive to be synergistic with John’s character. The yin to Terrence’s yang. The results of this relationship are evident from the front page of this edition of Life & Style. Terrence spells out his perceptions of spring trends on page three. Standing on the side of the N2 highway, interviewing Lucky Ndlovu and Craig Slevin of VuvuFit, Shakashead’s ‘gym-in-a-box’, I was once more reminded of the theme of partnership. This community-oriented concept was first borne in 2014. It has taken five long years to realise their dream of offering affordable fitness and wellness to the community, and now they have a shiny, yellow beacon of hope on the side of the road. (You can’t miss it.) It’s the partnerships that find their way through adversity that find success. Now that’s nothing to sneeze at. Speaking of which, we have a wonderful wellness edition for you, packed with helpful information on coping with spring allergies (yes, it’s September already people!). Dr Rosie Carey addresses this on page six, while our resident dietician Kim Martin talks fermented foods, gut health and immunity on page seven. And if you’re looking for something to rev up your fitness routine as you head into spring, look no further than Pole Republic; Ballito’s premier pole fitness centre which we review on page seven. Your bingo wings will thank you! It’s highly likely that your marriage will, too.

A Moment with

TERRENCE BRAY

T

Designer Terrence Bray has an impressive resumé. He dresses Her Serene Highness Princess Charlene of Monaco, has spent time with Karl Lagerfeld in his Parisian studio, and has graced multiple magazines and television shows with his distinctive pieces. He chatted to Life & Style as he prepares to launch his online retail range.

ERRENCE BRAY is a local designer who has developed a globally competitive fashion business.

Looks from Terrence’s previous runway shows, including his showstopping Korean and origami-inspired 2017 show (below).

From the age of 12 he would look in on his aunt’s haberdashery in Johannesburg, marvelling at how scraps of fabric were transformed into something beautiful. He was raised in a creative household as both his mother and father were artistic, and Terrence believes that design was his destiny. After completing his fashion and design studies at the Durban University of Technology, he spent just two years with another of Durban’s biggest fashion exports, Amanda Laird Cherry, before launching his own label. His dedication to sophisticated cuts and quality fabrics for men and women soon garnered a following of both private clients and fashion media. Apart from dedication to his business, Terrence has the desire to share his skills, placing education high on his list of priorities. Over the years he’s lectured to creative design students at his alma mater, as well as contributing to the upliftment of local crafters. “There’s an enormous need for education,” he adds, although he has more recently taken a step back to focus on his highly anticipated online retail store. “We’re focusing on our online presence for now, where we’ll be launching our Diffusion range with a strong brand aesthetic, as well as a ready-to-wear range using natural fibres focusing largely on linen.” As far as career highlights go, Terrence is spoilt for choice. “Most of my bridal gowns have been special,” he muses. His time with Karl Lagerfeld is an obvious choice, where the two spent a whirlwind day together on a photoshoot in 2011, and touring the design legend’s Paris studio while Terrence was overseas preparing for the wedding of Princess Charlene and Prince Albert of Monaco.

On Princess Charlene…

“We have an ongoing relationship – I dressed her even before the wedding took place, as we knew each other before (both of them resided in Durban) but we’ve been doing more work together since then. Many of the designs I’ve done for her have been specific to her journey, including dressing her for her first official trip with Prince Albert.”

On Spring Trends…

Terrence says that no single trend transcends having a sense of style, but there are a few key themes that will gain traction in the next season. • Sustainability is massive; having an awareness of locally produced garments will become even more important, re-interpreting and upcycling of items will result in an eclectic mix, and there will definitely be a considered financial and economic element to factor in. • Functional fashion or ‘uniform’ dressing is growing, with a focus on freedom of movement and volume, allowing clothing to have a freer shape. We’ll see fabrics being manipulated in interesting ways. • Gender neutrality is a real cultural movement, which is showing itself in the fashion industry. It can be subtle, but you’ll start seeing shapes to suit all bodies. • Bold colour blocking will remain a strong trend. • Look for soft, feminine items that are given an edge, like an added pair of sneakers.

Visit terrencebray.com (and watch this space for the launch of the online retail ranges) or follow Terrence Bray @terrencebray on Instagram.

WELLBEING

RAISING the BAR

On the side of the N2 highway is a bright yellow container that serves as a beacon to the surrounding communities. The VuvuFit Shakashead Box is a literal gym-in-a-box, offering a sanctuary of fitness, fun, and wellbeing.

I

F you pop into the open-air VuvuFit container at any given time of day, you’ll find a hive of activity. It’s a cross-section of North Coast locals all enjoying the fitness facilities in a unique setting. A group of Shakashead youngsters egg each other on in a spontaneous weight-lifting competition, while a set of more seasoned gym-goers perform reps with dumbbells. A young woman stretches on a mat, gazing out at the open field in front of her, while VuvuFit proprietor Lucky Nhlanhla Ndlovu preps for a functional fitness class, scheduled to begin soon.

As far back as 2014, Craig Slevin and Lucky had a solid concept in mind. Their idea was to set-up a sustainable fitness model to benefit a community who couldn’t necessarily afford conventional gym fees, but that could also operate as a functioning business, while empowering individuals through mentorship; seeing fitness as a vehicle for personal and societal growth. They first met when Lucky came knocking on Craig’s door looking for

financial assistance to compete in Italy in the Global Tae Kwan Do Federation’s competition, where he went on to be crowned the super heavyweight world champion. It was Lucky’s third title. Craig, a qualified CrossFit instructor, found resonance with Lucky’s story and the two connected instantly. Lucky had grown up under adverse conditions, but found immense solace in his training, incorporating body building, karate, functional fitness and Tae Kwan Do into his repertoire. The challenge proved to be finding the right premises to begin their concept. It would take five more years to secure the right piece of land, and they launched VuvuFit to the public in March 2019 from their bright yellow container, flanked by the N2 highway on the eastern side and the railway line to the west. Craig’s diverse family business, The Slev Group, incorporating farming, earth moving, property and construction, offered the necessary avenues to get the ball rolling, and acted as sponsors of the set-up. They wanted to bring something

that would offer hope, promote unity across socioeconomic and cultural divides, build individuals both physically and emotionally, and also offer measurable social impact. Craig invested in the first CrossFit Box in KZN, and had seen first-hand how effective the box concept could be to an individuals’ “psychology and biology”. “While we are out delivering our best in service and product through our various businesses, we are always on the look-out for ways we can create a positive social impact in our communities at large,” explains Craig. “Many of my family members and friends have benefited dramatically from training at functional fitness-style gyms,” he adds, mentioning “the strong sense of community, the confidence, the strength and the overall knock-on health benefits,” as key to this holistic concept. Similarly, “VuvuFit not only aims to empower an entrepreneur with a profitable business but through the fitness lifestyle it models, it creates a natural knock-on impact in the community at large, building fitter, stronger and healthier communities.”

VuvuFit is open from 6am – 10pm. Anyone can just arrive and join as a member with nominal membership fees and drop-in rates. Even if you already belong to a gym, the space offers something unique. Enquire about regular functional fitness, and Tae Kwan Do classes.

PARTNER WITH VUVUFIT

As a registered non-profit organization Vuvu Fit can issue section 18A certificates. They are still looking for sponsors for the following: • Siza Water connection. • Weather blinds to protect workout area. • Basic change rooms with toilets and showers. • Personal development training, coaching and mentoring. Any funds received here, will allow them to dedicate time to equipping the community to be the best they can be. Shakashead is the first of many ‘gyms-in-a-box’ bearing the VuvuFit trademark, with the aim to establish more of these in local communities. The Politics of DOG

Dave Charles presents the Morning Drive weekdays from 6am on 88FM Radio Life & Style Ballito.

A

S I am writing this missive, I am trying not to bleed on the keyboard. Oh yes, I am injured, not mortally but the blood is flowing. Not copiously, that would be problematic. No, it’s oozing from a laceration on my right hand for which my beloved Sue tells me I am entirely responsible. I am slightly aggrieved by this. Far from being selfinflicted, this little memento was given to me a few minutes ago by the youngest member of our family who seems to have been sent by the Furies to turn my life upside down.

I was just settling happily into the idea of life after the kids left home and thoroughly enjoying the freedom that this brings. Of course, you miss them – for about ten seconds – until you realise that you can actually choose what to watch on the TV, you can sleep soundly without waiting for the early hours confirmation of a safe return from

a late night sortee, the leftovers are still in the fridge and your guitars are exactly where you left them! This was beginning to look really promising. And then we got Otis. We have had German Shepherd Dogs for as long as we have been married and have always considered them part of the extended family. Each of them has had their quirks and differences in temperament, but they have generally been obedient and relatively docile. We have had a bit of a challenge with our senior Shepherdess who doesn’t like other dogs or people much, but she has always been quite civil towards us. When our beloved male dog had to be put down earlier this year, Sue and I were bereft. My suggestion that we adopt a puppy to replace him was at first met with fierce resistance from Sue who believed that we may have been courting disaster with our strange dog hating female. But the idea took hold and she eventually capitulated. My initial search had connected me with a well-bred litter of highly recommended GSD nobility, but by the time we came to finally agreeing on the acquisition, all of the

really good male puppies had already been claimed and only the smallest of the litter was still available. He was the runt of the litter, with one ear up and one ear down and a cheekily impish disposition that had earned him the rather unflattering registration name of Elfy – Elfy…I ask you with tears in my eyes…how can you call a noble German Shepherd Dog, Elfy! How could we introduce Elfy, to the impressively pedigreed Icini of Sharaleigh or Ulma vom Silberschatten before her? Sure, he is a pedigreed direct descendent of champions but… Elfy…seriously? After much deliberating Sue changed his name to Otis – reminiscent of a really cool Bluesman and easy enough to use in training. And so it came to pass that Otis Charles made his way into our hearts, and things will never be the same again.

Never have I had such a vocal dog. He speaks to me – loudly – when he decides it’s time for a game, a walk, a meal or to get out of bed, even though the sun has yet to rise! He has a huge collection of toys but much prefers my sheepskin slippers that are now looking decidedly the worse for wear and he is absolutely wild about bouncing balls. He loves them so much that he is oblivious to the delicate nature of the hands that are holding them. This is why I am bleeding on the keyboard as I struggle through this missive – it’s my fault – I caught the bouncing ball and those teeth are doing what they were designed to do. I completely understand why some people prefer goldfish.

Time for MUDDY PUDDLES Listen up parents! If you missed out on Peppa Pig’s visit last year, now’s the time to grab your tickets, with some incredible early bird specials for this family-friendly show heading to The Globe at Durban’s Suncoast.

To celebrate Peppa’s return to the stage, especially for her early bird fans, a limited number of special R99 seats have been released.

LEAR the calendar for the weekend 13 – 15 September, as Peppa Pig and her friends are back on stage with their sell-out show.

Peppa’s previous live shows have taken her around the world – from breaking records in London's West End to sell-out tours across USA, Europe, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. In this thrilling adventure, (presented by Ackermans), Polly Parrot and Mr Dinosaur have vanished, leaving Peppa, George, Mummy and Daddy Pig to embark on an incredible journey to find the missing duo. As always – Peppa’s

special friends Suzy Sheep, Danny Dog and Pedro Pony are on hand to help in the fantastic hunt! “Peppa Pig is one of the most loved characters by pre-schoolers and their families here in South Africa,” says Chad Findlay, the show’s resident creative director. “The response to our last visit was incredible and we can’t wait to return! This one-of-a-kind stage show – with incredible life-sized puppets and beautifully costumed characters – brings Peppa Pig to life in a whole new way for South African audiences.”

WELLBEING

Trees are in blossom, meadows are awash with brightly coloured flowers, bees are buzzing and people are sneezing. Spring is a glorious month, but for those who suffer from hayfever, or seasonal allergic rhinitis, it can be miserable. Dr Rosie Carey has some sound seasonal advice.

S

EASONAL allergic rhinitis is an allergic reaction to different pollens that occur at different times of year. However,

the symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis are almost identical to those of allergic rhinitis and so the same principles of management and treatment can apply. This is important on the North Coast because allergens (the spores/particles that people are allergic to) abound in Ballito. Not only are there the usual pollen or grass allergens, but there are also fungal and mould spores (due to the humidity) and other animal allergens such as house dust mites and cockroaches. Add to this the complications to the

respiratory tract caused by the sugar cane burning, and it’s no wonder that allergic rhinitis is such a common complaint. Typical symptoms of allergic rhinitis include a runny or congested nose, sneezing (especially in the morning), a scratchy throat and itchy, watery eyes. Listed on paper these symptoms don’t sound that severe, but they can be debilitating enough to impact on one’s ability to concentrate (there are many cases of allergic rhinitis being misdiagnosed as ADHD). Not only are the symptoms frustrating, but having a whole lot of mucous hanging around in your respiratory tract does make you more prone to secondary bacterial infections, which in turn usually means more antibiotics. So there are many good reasons to get your allergic rhinitis under control! I subscribe heavily to the school of thought that prevention is better than

THE MAKING OF A MEMOIR 88FM’s lunchtime host, Rethabile Hlalele, shares her thoughts on life coach Stella Upneck’s new book; a memoir of murder, mayhem and miracles, with a marriage thrown in for good measure.

I

T was February 2018 when I first met Stella. It was during our on-air interview that she mentioned she was in the process of writing a book. I was excited, not only about the idea of a book but even more so by the title Murder, Mayhem, Miracles and Still Married – such mystery and intrigue! The title was a bold one, much like Stella.

Now, it’s come to fruition, and is available on Amazon from 28 August. Murder, Mayhem, Miracles and Still Married is a memoir about her life, without following any chronological order. The title refers to a murder experienced in her family; a cruel and heart-breaking loss of life. Stella bares her soul and details with great intensity the rawness of her emotions after losing her father. If you have ever experienced death or loss, you will be able to identify the pain of death’s sting, but reading further, Stella focuses on the importance of forgiveness and the role of time as a healing factor. ‘Mayhem’ best describes the destructive force Stella was to herself, her marriage and her family. Blessed with four beautiful children and a supportive husband, Stella still suffered from alcoholism, a gene she inherited from her late mother. Now 11 years sober, she speaks openly about confronting her demons, learning to love herself back to health and sobriety and choosing to be “passionately vulnerable”, but you'll have to read the book to understand how profound this statement is. Who says ‘Miracles’ don’t happen?

When her husband Russell fell off his bicycle and literally broke his head open, spending a week in ICU, no one would have imagined that five years later (just last week to be precise) that he would be representing South Africa at the World Masters Swimming Championships in South Korea. Tell me you still don’t believe in miracles! Next year, Stella and Russell celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary, from being on an assassin’s hit list, to founding one of South Africa's most prestigious private schools, they have loved and stood by each other, and experienced life with all its ups and downs, bumps and slumps and, guess what, they’re ‘Still Married’! Murder, Mayhem, Miracles and Still Married is an engaging read, and above all, its brave and bold, just like Stella.

WELLBEING 7

lifeandstyle.co.za

This month we tried…

We let go off our hang-ups to hang out on a pole, venturing into the world of pole fitness just for you L&S readers!

P

ole Fitness is quite the phenomenon. Gone are the days of its questionable connotations, and both men and women across the globe are embracing the fitness benefits of this unique exercise regime.

TUMMY TALK

Ancient civilisations already had the heads up – that eating fermented food is exceptionally good for your health, in particular your immune system. Now, modern research is proving the science behind this tradition. Dietitian Kim Wilson explains why we should be eating, and making, more of our own fermented foods

I

have to rely on anecdotal Instagram stories of how ‘WellnessInstaGirl’s’ inflamed gut was healed through daily Kombucha shots. We know just how this works and can sip our Raspberry Kombucha Cocktail with newfound wisdom.

FERMENTED FOODS FOR THE MODERN WORLD Fermented foods have been linked to many health benefits, not the least of which is the activation of our immune system. This is fantastic for the modern world where we are not only encountering more toxins and stress than ever, but we’re also more likely to be exposed to the dreaded ‘superbugs’. It’s all good and well knowing that a helping of sauerkraut on your salad will activate your immune system, but it’s even better knowing why this happens. This ‘why’ provides new targets for therapeutic intervention.

BUT THE BENEFITS DON’T END THERE... The immune system plays an enormous role in managing our day-to-day health, but it certainly isn’t the only system improved by fermented foods. The other major system fermented foods impact is our digestion. Fermented foods provide enzymes and probiotics that colonize our gut with the right stuff. A healthy balance of gut flora leads to: - Improved digestion and breakdown of our food - Improved absorption of nutrients from our food - Improved elimination of dietary toxins from the gut (through our daily bathroom breaks)

f you think that the Raspberry Kombucha Cocktail you sip over a girls’ brunch is cutting edge or innovative, the Chinese actually have a 9 000-year head start on you. Fermentation as a practice may not be ground-breaking, but the research around it certainly is.

WAKING UP YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM New research from the University of Leipzig in Germany has identified just how fermented foods stimulate our immune cells. Consuming Lactic Acid Bacteria – the kind that turns your salted cabbage and spices into kimchi, and your sugary-blacktea into kombucha – leads to the production of a metabolite that binds strongly to our immune cells and ‘wakes them up’. This metabolite may be the answer to managing inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, autoimmune diseases and allergies. Future research will certainly explore this. For now, we no longer

AND THE FINAL VERDICT? Fermented foods should be included as part of a healthy, balanced diet. They can also play an important role in regulating your immune system. With so many available options on the market, even if you cannot stand sauerkraut or kimchi, you will find a fermented food you enjoy.

For starters, it is an upper body shred session. Expect to work your triceps, biceps, lats and upper back, all while toning your intercostal muscles and core. A quick warm-up elevates your heart rate and loosens things up, before you take your positions at your metal pole and instructor, Pravashni Copoosamy, demonstrates some beginner sequences. These can range from simple leg lifts, to slightly more complex combinations, but Pravashni builds you up (both your confidence and your momentum!) until you are comfortable enough to take a chance. The pole takes some getting used to, but it helps to work with it, and not against it, and the hour soon ‘flies’ by. If you’re afraid of taking the plunge, never fear! The Life & Style team

were all beginners, and we coped quite well with the manoeuvres, albeit with a few giggles and even squeals of delight (mostly emanating from our ed. Mel, who felt more like a five-year-old on a playground than a sultry dancer). Pole fitness has a lot to do with letting go of inhibitions; the fitness part almost happens unconsciously, and as Pravashni quite rightly says, it is terribly difficult to think about anything else when you’re grappling with something so far removed from your normal gym session. Your mind is wholly focused on the task at hand. It’s an excellent workout, especially for strength training.

All you need is a towel, yoga mat, and an open mind. Pole Republic is in Imbonini Office Park. info@polerepublic.co.za or 076 880 3992.

MAKE YOUR OWN FERMENTED TOMATO SALSA There are a million recipes online for various fermented foods, but here’s a lesser known one for you to try: INGREDIENTS

• 1.5kgs tomatoes (a variety of regular, cherry, heirloom etc. may make your salsa even more flavourful) • 1 large onion • 2 red or green chilies (add fewer or more depending on how spicy you like your salsa, or replace with a bell pepper if you prefer it mild) • 4 medium garlic cloves, minced • 1 bunch of coriander, finely chopped • Juice of 2 limes (or replace with lemons) • 1½tbsp. salt • ½tsp cumin • ½tsp chili powder • 1tsp smoked paprika METHOD

1. Add the tomatoes to your blender or food processer and blend until smooth (or leave it slightly chunky if you prefer). 2. Place the tomatoes in a large bowl to one side. 3. Finely chop the onion and add to the large bowl with the herbs and spices. 4. Add the lime/lemon juice and salt to the vegetables. Mix until well combined. 5. Pour the mixture into large mason jars and fill just more than ¾ of the jar, leaving a gap at the top. Leave these on your counter for 2 – 3 days to ferment. 6. Transfer to the fridge and use as you need. They will keep for a few months in the fridge, and the flavours will continue to intensify.

CONVENIENCE

CONVENIENCE & CHOICE – Right on Your Doorstep

NEW HOLIDAY ARRIVALS For Your Coastal Getaway

We’re lucky to have access to Holla Trails on the North Coast; a safe, multi-use outdoor space for trail-running and mountain biking enthusiasts of all ages and fitness levels. Life & Style caught up with Holla super fans Colin Schwegman and Bentley to find out how they navigate life, and Holla, together!

EASY RIDERS

Q: Tell us about yourselves? A: I’m Colin Schwegman, and Bentley is actually a girl with a boy's name (it's a very long story!) Q: Where do you live? A: In Simbithi with our Boss Lady, Sheila, who rides her ebike with us whenever we can persuade her too. Q: How old is Bentley? A: 141 going on two! Q: How long have you been a member at Holla Trails? A: Since we moved here from Durban seven or so years ago. Q: What are your favourite routes? A: How do you pick a favourite in a place like this? You can't go wrong with Pink for a routine ride, but nothing beats Yellow and Gold for a challenge and I really must get around to doing Black again, but that's much easier to talk about than actually do. Q: What do you love most about Holla Trails? A: There is something for everyone from a family bumble with a picnic basket to a technical challenge to some serious distance and climbing. We really live in a slice of paradise on the Dolphin Coast and having Holla right on our doorstep is a unique privilege Q: Tell us how and why you first started riding with Bentley? A: We've always taken our dogs with us whenever possible so she's been on bikes with me since she was a puppy; previously either in a box on the back of the bike, a rucksack on my back or a bag slung from the handlebars, although all of these adversely affected the bike's handling in one way or

another and limited where we could go. However, our latest bit of kit, the Buddy Rider (visit buddyrider.co.za), puts her weight in exactly the right place and we can even do some of the less technical single track. Q: Does Bentley have her own safety kit? A: She has a helmet but strongly objects to wearing it. I do take it easy when she's with me though and we've never really taken a tumble; just the odd low-speed ‘undignified dismount’ like in soft sand. When this happens her reactions are just so much faster than mine that she lands nimbly on all four feet and gives me filthy looks while I pick myself up and try to salvage some dignity.

MOOIMAAK MAKEOVERS SAN-MARIE AUCAMP

The transformation

I

f you’ve been watching Mooimaak on kykNET, you’ll know the Skin Renewal team don’t just perform incredible makeovers, they can also change lives. This was the case for San-Marie Aucamp who, at 26, was the youngest patient to appear on the show. She’d lost her confidence after years of bullying in high school, but this was something the Dr Rulene Maré and therapist Elke Kritzinger could help her get back.

EYE ALIVE!

Dr Maré opened San-Marie’s hooded eyes using a two-pronged approach. PDO barbed threads inserted into her forehead to lift up her eye brows and a knife-free blepharoplasty via a Jett Plasma Eye Rejuvenation treatment. The latter involves a device that emits an electrical current to the eyelid, causing it to tighten up. “The results were extremely visible - less excess skin and fat around my eyelids!", says San-Marie.

SEE THE LIGHT

A Laser Genesis Rejuvenation session a great way to stimulate your collagen-production in a way that improves the look of wrinkles, pores, acne and scars. While San-Marie’s youthful complexion is line and blemish-free, the laser could minimise her skin’s redness and pores and create a healthy glow.

Umhlanga • Durban

When her transformative journey came to an end, San-Marie couldn’t have been more thrilled. "The results were extremely visible, I love my new open eyes!"

TREATMENTS: Nose & Chin Rejuvenation

San-Marie was self-conscious about her profile so Dr Maré inserted dissolvable polydioxanone (PDO threads) into her nose to straighten the nasal bridge while dermal fillers created a more even look. Dermal fillers where also used to build up San-Marie’s chin while a series of injections containing a fat-melting Ceccarelli solution enhanced her neckline.

FUNCTION CATERING There are so many different craft FREE DELIVERIES beers these days on the market, so I try to restrict my tasting to the local beers NEW & IMPROVED of the area (or nearest too) and with a

Samango Mango Ale at the famous Bierfassl restaurant and pub. I remember my parents loved to mix lemonade with beer for homemade shandies on hot days, which is probably where flavoured beer originated, but I always found beers like Flying SPECIALISING INFish too sweet after the first one. 88FM 11

WIN WITH 88FM THE VOICE OF BALLITO IN PRINT ON AIR & ONLINE Life & Style’s growth and innovation since inception has resulted in us comfortably claiming the title of leading independent multimedia brand in the region. Starting as a print media brand offering a high-quality lifestyle magazine in a newsprint format, Life & Style has evolved to include a groundbreaking mix of media products that includes a popular local radio station - 88FM Ballito (Radio Life & Style) - as well as a thriving directory magazine: the BizBook. While the radio station allows Life & Style to extend our print content’s local reach (and vice versa), our radio and directory products are given extended digital reach through our dedicated smartphone apps for both Android and iOS devices, putting the power of Life & Style in our audience’s pocket.
