Kentish takes out stableford Mount Gambier Golf Club ladies take on tough weather conditions Only the true golfer, 21 ladies in all, turned up to compete the 2nd round of the Hudson Plumbing Stableford competition last Wednesday. The day was very cold, windy and very heavy conditions prevailed and the course won the day with only three Ladies breaking 30 points. Mary Kentish (31 Handicap), the Ladies president took out 1st placing with 31 points. Mary played to her handicap on the long Back Nine, including 4 three point Holes. She also scored a 4 pointer on the Par 3, 6th Hole. Coming in second place on a countback by 1 point on the Back Nine was Vicki Clark (25 Handicap) registering 30 points. Vicki’s split was 14 points/16 points = 30 points. The unlucky loser of the countback was Lady Captain Jan Shanahan (18 Handicap) who also had 30 points, made up very consistently of 15/15 points. Three balls were handed out for the ball run-down and went to Marie Douglas, Jess Parsons and Libby Furner. Speciality prizes were the Pro Shot on the Par 3 8th Hole and won
by Lorraine Stratford. 2nd shots on the Par 3 6th Hole were won by Jan Shanahan A Grade, Lorraine Stratford B Grade and the Kathy Ewer prize of chocolates and a Piccolo went to Lorraine Bruhn C Grade. This week’s competition will be sponsored by Mary Kentish and will be a Par round. SATURDAY PAR ROUND A par round was played in cool but fine conditions last Saturday. A small field of 10 Ladies competed in the difficult Par game and Helen McIntyre (20 Handicap), took out 1st placing carding an excellent 3up. Her score consisted of square front nine and 3 up on the back nine. Marie Douglas (25 Handicap) came in 2nd placing with 2 down. Marie squared the Front Nine and 2 down on the Back Nine. Janina Morrison (22 Handicap) came in 3rd place on a countback from Christine Morrison both registering 4 down. STABLEFORD PODIUM: Winner Mary Kentish (standing) Jan Shanahan (3rd) & Vicki Clark (2nd).
