WiBRD set to facilitate critical development workshops
Country Arts SA is inviting artists from all disciplines to apply for a three-week residency this October at Grindell’s Hut located in the heart of the Vulkathunha - Gammon Ranges National Park in the Northern Flinders Ranges.
Established more than 16 years ago, the vision for the residency program is to provide an environment of extraordinary natural beauty with historic significance for artists to pursue their practice while immersed in an outback environment. The park forms part of the traditional country of the Adnyamathanha people and is rich with cultural significance. It is also a haven for many rare and endangered plants and animals.
This year, the selection process is opened to artists of all disciplines nationwide.
Last year’s Grindell’s Hut Artist in Residence, Deborah Prior (pictured above at Grindell’s Hut in 2021), said the Grindell’s Hut Residency had been a transformative and restorative experience.
“ It has challenged and expanded my thinking and making processes in the studio; and heightened my awareness and appreciation of the natural world,” she said.
The Grindell’s Hut Artist in Residence program is a partnership between Country Arts SA, and The Department for Environment and Water through the Vulkathunha‐Gammon Ranges National Park Co‐Management Board, and managed by Country Arts SA.
One artist nationwide will be selected to take part in the residency program which will run from October 9-30.

Women in Business and Regional Development is a business network all about supporting women to build successful careers and the 2022 Mastermind Masterclass series is all about upskilling women to do just that.
This series has been designed to offer quality development sessions from both locally recognised presenters as well as further afield and all are aimed at assisting the network’s members and community in building their businesses and careers.
The masterclasses will be around 90 minutes either online or in person throughout the rest of the year, with the topics selected based on feedback provided from members as well as some wonderful opportunities to collaborate with other organisations.
Women in Business and Regional Development board member Brittany Shelton said they were kickstarting the series with a bang with three incredible speakers next month.
June 9 will be a session titled Copywriting - The Psychology of Words, with Anita Siek (above left), of Wordfetti. It will be an online workshop and will give simple, instant and actionable methods that attendees will immediately implement and keep in their arsenal going forward.
Melissa Browne (above right) will host the June 15 session - Psychology of Pricing Workshop.
That session will incorporate both theory and practical, ensuring participants walk away with the tools they need to make decisions around pricing in their business as well as working on their existing pricing. This workshop is being run in conjunction with the Limestone Coast Women in Ag Network. This is a network Women in Business and Regional Development is excited to support, it is for women in the agriculture industry in the Limestone Coast to communicate with and support each other in both a social and a professional capacity, building strong connectedness in the region.
There will also be an online workshop on Know Your Numbers hosted by leading local accountant, Jason Seidel (left), from Galpins, tackling financial myths, tips and traps of starting and running a business.

Star kelpie headed to town
Muster Dogs winner to headline Casterton Kelpie Muster
Some famous furry friends will make their way to Casterton this June long weekend to test out their mustering skills at the 2022 Eukanuba Australian Kelpie Muster.
Frank Finger and his prized pup Annie, winners of season one of the popular ABC television series Muster Dogs, will attend the 2022 Kelpie Muster which will go ahead after two years of forced modifications and gathering restrictions.
Frank and Annie will venture all the way from Northern Queensland and will mingle with fellow graziers and working dogs at the event, which celebrates the township’s claim to fame as the official birthplace of the kelpie.
Casterton Kelpie Association president Karen Stephens was thrilled to welcome the celebrity duo.
“We are delighted to host Frank and Annie at the 2022 Eukanuba Australian Kelpie Muster, we know there will be many eventgoers who will be seeking out the Muster Dog winners to discuss training tips and even snap a selfie together,” she said.
“Frank and Annie will also be joined by fellow Muster Dogs competitor Rob Tunck, and the program’s producers, which will provide a mini Muster Dogs reunion right here in Casterton.”
The Muster enters its 26th year with much anticipation and excitement, garnering a loyal event following and ongoing national media attention on programs such as The Project.
“On average more than 10,000 people attend the Kelpie Muster, and we are expecting crowd numbers to be even higher this year due to not only the regained freedom of travel, but our recent record-breaking Kelpie auctions and the strong fanbase the event has amassed,” said president Karen Stephens.
“The three-day Muster features something for everyone. On Saturday we have the ‘Festival’ which offers a range of free activities and events including the Street Parade, Kelpie High Jump, Kelpie Hill Climb and the Kelpie Dash.
“On Sunday is Australia’s premier Working Dog Auction, which last year saw a national record set with kelpie Hoover selling for $35,200.
“And lastly, on Monday is the Working Dog training School, which provides specialised training for working dogs for those interested.
“Casterton will be swelling with furry friends and dog lovers this June long weekend, and we look forward to welcoming back many familiar faces, as well as many new first time Muster-goers in 2022.”
