The 2015 Promenade promises another wonderful weekend of music.” Further information including full details of all the performances of the 2015 PoSM are available from www.promenadeofsacredmusic.com.au

Time to get creative as art festival launches competitions Competitions held as part of the 2015 Penola Coonawarra Arts Festival are set to increase in prestige and popularity, with more than $8000 prize money now being offered in a range of creative arenas. In particular, with generous support from long-time sponsor the Balnaves Foundation – who this year increased its prize money for the John Shaw Neilson Acquisitive Art Prize to $7000 – entries for the hallmark competition is expected to rise considerably. “The John Shaw Neilson Acquisitive Art Prize is a highly anticipated event of the Penola Coonawarra Arts Festival – both for entrants and Festival goers – and this year is no exception,” said art prize coordinator, Kristen Bence. “It has previously attracted a wide range of entries from artists and designers working in a two dimensional medium, and has firmly made its mark on the artists’ calendar,” said Ms Bence.
The John Shaw Neilson Acquisitive Art Prize is open to all emerging and established artists from throughout Australia, and hopes to attract many entries. “We are incredibly grateful for the generous, unwavering support from the Balnaves Foundation who has sponsored this Art Prize over many years,” said Ms Bence. “It is only through support such as this that enables the John Shaw Neilson Acquisitive Art Prize to grow in stature and respect,” she said. The Balnaves Foundation is a private philanthropic organisation established in 2006 by Neil Balnaves AO to provide support to charitable enterprises across Australia. The John Shaw Neilson Acquisitive Art Prize is one of the biggest events of the annual Penola Coonawarra Arts Festival held in May. John Shaw Neilson was born in South Australia’s Penola in 1872 and while he only spent the first nine years of his life there, Neilson
went on to produce poetry which would herald him as one of Australia’s most original and important lyric poets. In addition to the Acquisitive Art Prize of $7000, a Local Art Prize of $500 gives local Limestone Coast artists an opportunity to have their work recognised. All artists - amateur, professional and students - are encouraged to enter, and each two dimensional artwork, suitably framed and ready for hanging, must be of a subject inspired by the poetry of John Shaw Neilson. The Penola Coonawarra Arts Festival Design Prize is also expected to attract graphic designers and artists from throughout Australia. With sponsorship from a long time individual supporter of the Festival, together with Penola High School, the prize money for this year will total five hundred dollars. The challenge is to create the design concept for the 2016 Penola Coonawarra Arts Festival which will be used for all promotional material including a full colour programme, A3 posters, flyers, website design, banners and more. The Penola Coonawarra Arts Festival will be held over four days in May this year, with the John Shaw Neilson exhibition marking the Festival opening on Thursday May 21 at Penola High School. In a new addition to the competition lineup, a Creative Writing Prize – with the theme ‘Imagine’ – organisers hope to attract entries from upper primary and secondary students, but the competition is open to anyone. For more details and to download the competition entry forms go to www.artsfestival. com.au/competitions.

COLLECTED STUPIDITY Communication breakdown... by Robbie Tansel I’m getting a bit concerned about the way humans are communicating. In fact, I think we’re getting to a point in time where people might actually not be able to understand each other, and I’m not just talking about men trying to communicate with women. What has brought about my concern this week is something that I read recently about the most commonly used word in the English language in 2014. The problem begins with the fact that the most common word used in 2014 apparently wasn’t even a word. How can the most popular word not even be a word? Straight away you have to question the person or group that have decided on the most commonly used word and their ability to communicate when they don’t understand what constitutes a word. Anyway, the most common word was the love heart emoji. The most commonly used word in 2014 was a picture of a love heart. Since when did it become acceptable for pictures to be part of written communication? I’ve always been happy to accept illustrations in books but when we’re relying on the pictures within the writing to communicate our message then we’re starting to lose some of our fundamental human abilities. Let’s think about the last time that drawing pictures was an acceptable form of communication. Cave people drawing on the walls. Do we really want to go back to those times? Surely we’re a bit more advanced now. The other time when they communicated in pictures was on the walls of Egyptian pyramids and the Pharaoh’s tombs. Is it possible that these pictures are actually emojis? It doesn’t get any better with the second most popular word either. You won’t believe it, but it wasn’t actually a word either. It was the hash tag. You know “#”? Back in my days “#” meant “number”. If it was the year 1988 and you were seeing “#” it would be in front of the number 24 after Dwayne Cross had signed your shoes after a Pioneers game. Of course hash tag is now a way that you tag a piece of information or media that you have posted on
BOOK OF THE WEEK
social media so that it is grouped with other pieces of information on a similar topic. #itssobloodyannoying #iwishiwasntdoingthislamejoke #hashtagsareforlosers #banthehashtag ^thisisnotahashtag #butthisis While we’re speaking about social media, I think social media is responsible for another trend that will surely destroy all of our abilities to communicate. This one is the way people post a status update or tweet on something which is a very pointed comment to someone in particular but then don’t tag it to the person at all. You know, “Some people need to show more care for their family. They’re not going to be around forever so annoyed.” I read this one and I knew exactly who the person was talking about. In the old days the person would just come to you and say, “You’re annoying me.” You know, they’d communicate? From that point on you can have a heated discussion with the person and at the end you either decide you’re still friends or if you want to have a fight. I hate this stupid status update thing because the problem is never resolved. You might have a cyber argument but it’s just not the same. You’re extremely unlikely to resolve the issue at all. You will however make everyone think that you’re actually a fifteen year old girl. Apologies to all the fifteen year old girls who realise how immature and stupid this is. Grow some grape fruit, have some courage and talk to the person. Be an adult for crying out loud. Adults talk to other adults. They don’t write passive aggressive status updates. Anyway, in response to the update that I actually quoted directly from Facebook, I do appreciate some members of my family Mum, but thank you for reminding me that one day you won’t be around. You

Younger, bolder Isabelle lives in Paris while Viann is content with life in the French countryside with her husband Antoine and their daughter. But when the Second World War strikes, Antoine is sent off to fight and Viann finds herself isolated so Isabelle is sent by their father to help her. As the war progresses, the sisters’ relationship and strength is tested. With life changing in unbelievably horrific ways, Viann and Isabelle will find themselves facing frightening situations and responding in ways they never thought possible as bravery and resistance take different forms in each of their actions.

Designed to give you the Triple Threat edge, the performing arts workshops will be presented by some of Australia’s finest talent in their chosen fields. Intermediate and Seniors will be treated to one of the most in-demand Jazz and Contemporary choreographers in the country, Stephen Tannos. A featured choreographer on ‘So You Think You Can Dance’, Tannos (pictured) inspired students from across the Limestone Coast last year and looks forward to returning and working with Soul Arts again on March 28 & 29. The workshops will also feature performing arts all-rounder well known for her charity events work, Remy Noonan, conducting Musical Theatre singing; and Jazz/Hip Hop sensation Jesse Rasmussen. Jesse has
been wowing audiences since winning Showcase Australian Dance Championships at the age of 12 in 1998, and has since worked with a range of productions and stars including Guy Sebastian, Natalie Bassingthwaite, Fallout Boy, Dancing with the Stars, X Factor and So You Think You Can Dance. With even more special guest tutors to be announced, the Soul Arts Convention is building a reputation of being one of the most exciting annual events for the performing arts in regional Australia! The weekend will culminate in a special performance by the students on the Sunday evening on the Sir Robert Helpmann stage, which is open to the general public for a $5 entry fee.
Registrations for the workshops are now open and can be collected from The Main Corner, or by emailing tteakle@ mountgambier.sa.gov.au.

Genna was chosen from a field of local applicants for the annual scholarship, which helps first year university students on their path to tertiary education with a $5000 a year bursary for two years. standing and wall fountains. We have one huge round fountain, with base pond and pedestal in tiers, with a statue on top or this can be changed to something geometric to make a modern style that would suit being in the middle of a driveway or large lawned area and would make a striking focal point. Many of the cascading water features can be hooked up to run into a swimming pool and the wall fountains are particularly suited to courtyards and indoor patio style room, where the sound of running water is not only soothing but cooling especially on hot days. Gardenarium and The Pot Shop have one each of three exclusive Black water features with square base pond, one with three square columns, all emitting water, one with a handmade glass bowl cascading and one with a black egg shaped feature that are sure to be exclusive to each buyer as we only ever had one of each made, these are half price in the sale. Many of the traditional style column water features in a small base pond, birdbath types are also on clearance and many have or can be fitted with solar pumps, so they can be positioned out in the garden and well away from powerpoints. All of the glazed, terracotta, concrete, sandstone and lightweight pots are on the clearance also, with our terracotta at such ridiculously low prices you couldn’t even buy a comparable sized pot in plastic for the same cost !!! $5, $10 and $15 pot specials will also be on throughout the sale. With our exclusive importing, we have full control over our glaze colours, meaning there is just about every colour you can imagine. From purple, to bright orange, black and the really shiny stainless steel, which is what we call a high glaze with an almost mirror finish ideal for modern homes. The ring pots in this range are on a huge reduction at present. Our direct buying means you are getting bargain prices everyday, without the need to wait for specials or laim incentives

This eratic summer weather or lack thereof is keeping gardeners on their toes not knowing what to do ! There appears to be a feel that a tinge of Autumn in the air, with the nights seeming to be very cool, with dew and crisp morning –and all reports tell us summer is still to come! The inconsistent blasts of heat this summer certainly put many off their gardens, however the demand for water features and fountains at Gardenarium and The Pot Shop was overwhelming and we have sold out of most of our styles. Incredibly, we are now having a massive fountain and Pot clearance sale on all of our remaining stock, including ex-demo water features at hugely reduced prices up to 50% and 60% off (see advert adjacent page). A new container of antique terracotta pots, urns and jars has just landed with a new range of Ancient pots that look like they have been under the sea with barnacles sticking to them giving a really aged look. This can only mean one thing, bargains all round. Many of our exclusive styles and the last of the well known Kilkee brand and Tivoli brands of water features are to be cleared. These were well known Australian brands that have sadly closed down with most of the styles no longer available. They range from traditional style water features to Ultra modern like the Bordeaux, free

COVER New faces set to head up business network WiBRD is a not-for-profit organisation with a strategic goal to empower professional women to achieve their career and business goals. The supportive environment with like-minded women over the past 16 years has encouraged women to build confidence, network and develop skill sets. Their aim is to provide a nurturing environment for women to share experiences, to support members and welcome new faces to their events and communities. The new board consists of Di Ind (Chair), Judy McKay (Deputy Chair), Ali Villani (Treasurer), Sally Beck, Fiona Hetherington, Nicole Cunningham and Tahlia Gabrielli. According to WIBRD Chair and Di-Monty Training Solutions managing director Di Ind (far right) the strength of the WIBRD is their members. “And our ability to empower all women though training, networking and supporting professional women including small business owners, career professionals, up and coming business women and entrepreneurs,” she said. In 2015 WiBRD aims to strengthen and broaden their networks across the Limestone Coast and increase their links within the greater Green Triangle and South Western Victoria regions. With a number of sponsors and more than 100 active members of professional women from the Limestone Coast and South West Victoria regions, the WiBRD are set to make an immense impact in 2015. Platinum sponsor of the WiBRD, ANZ’s Regional Manager Andrew Bowles is very proactive about their involvement in WiBRD. “The WiBRD allows us to provide a level of professional support to our staff whilst creating a networking environment to further enhance individual and business growth,” he said. WiBRD would also like to take this opportunity to welcome their newly appointed executive officer Lydia Mules. Lydia (above left) has moved back to the region with her young family after 12 years in Adelaide working in corporate management. She has demonstrated knowledge in leading marketing and communications for multi-million dollar companies in South

Australia and on a national level, most recently as Marketing Manager for a steel company that employed more than 170 staff. Lydia is now keen to put to work her comprehensive understanding of all facets of business, communications and the strategic management process for the benefit of the WiBRD. WiBRD is committed to their guiding principles to be inclusive, to work collaboratively, to be innovative, professional and to have fun. The board is passionate about the vision of the network and is looking forward to providing extensive support to existing and new members this year. Please contact Lydia Mules for more information on 0400 293 676 or firstname.lastname@example.org and learn more about them on www.wibrd.org.au ON THE COVER: Judy McKay- Deputy Chairman, Ali Villani- Treasurer, Di Ind- Chairman, Tahlia Gabrielli, Nicole Cunningham, Sally Beck & Fiona Hetherington.
“Acquiring ownership of Sweet Espresso the food store in October of 2014 has been the best decision of my working career to date. The shop as I affectionately describe as a ‘project’ to family and friends has enabled me to blend the professional skills I have developed over time and my personal qualities that have been influenced by the people I surround myself with. I have been very fortunate to be exposed to the dedicated and hard-working ideals of my parents who operated their own local business for over 20 years. It is witness to their success, which has ignited my desire to do the same. ‘Find a job you love and you’ll never have to work a day in your life” a saying I used to agree with until transitioning into self-employment. I now believe that if you truly love your job (as I do) you will turn this passion into motivation to work even harder, find ways to innovate, challenge yourself, make sacrifices for the greater good of progress and stay humble enough to relish in the opportunities and rewards you have created for yourself. Welcome 2015, the year in which along with the help of my team and my ever-supportive fiancé and business partner Beau, we are excited to reveal each addition, improvement and surprise as they take form. See you for a coffee soon!” 116 Smith Street, Naracoorte Ph: (08) 8762 0033

Fur Family Dog Grooming & Fur Family Pet Resort
What started out as lending a helping hand to a dog groomer has turned into a successful business venture for Ann Norman and husband Rick. “I started out helping another dog groomer and loved being with the dogs so much I then realised it was the job for me,” Ann said. “I love interacting with the dogs and transforming them into clean and tidy pooches.” Fur Family Dog Grooming specialises in grooming small to medium dogs and offer bathing, breed specific clipping, nail trimming and defleaing. They also stock a large range of PUPPIA Harnesses, ROGZ collars and leads and top quality shampoos.. Ann and her husband Rick also noticed there was also a big need for pet boarding and have expanded the business to include Fur Family Pet Resort located at their home at 91 Brim Brim Road Yahl. They provide fully insulated kennels with full access to grassed exercise areas. “We are a small home based business and feel that the majority of dogs are happier if they can socialise with other compatible dogs and whenever possible we give them the chance to interact with each other,” Ann said. “Whether it’s for grooming or boarding our motto is your dog is part of our family.” 28A Shepherdson Rd. A small boutique motel, Must@Coonawarra changed hands in December of 2014, and Cate has been busy bringing her own sense of style and luxury to the property. The eco-friendly design of the motel appealed to Cate, and she is expanding on this theme as she finds suppliers who fit the profile. The most recent addition is sourcing toilet paper from Who Gives a Crap, who not only manufacture luxurious 3 ply toilet paper from 100% recycled materials, they also use 50% of their profits to ‘Flush Poverty Down the Loo’ and build toilets in the developing world. Cate is passionate about making sure her guests have a wonderful stay at Must@Coonawarra, and believes that word of mouth is the best marketing tool. Salon 7 Last year, Janene Lightbody celebrated 20 years in business – the business of making her clients look and feel amazing. And in that 20 years, Janene has built a strong team of hairdressers that have become an integral part of the Salon 7 family. Kelly Elshaug has been part of the Salon 7 team since it opened, while Caroline Michell and Belinda Scott are in their 20th year now. Andrea Stafford has clocked up 15 years and Robyn Nicholson, has been part of the team for 12 years and Janene also has a new generation of potentially long serving team members just starting out, with Lili Rogers McKenzie, who completed her apprenticeship last year, and Bailey Watsell, who is four years into her Salon 7 experience. Mikayla Dodderidge is the newest member of the team, starting her apprenticeship late last year. “I have been very lucky because my staff has been loyal and they are all so hard working, as well as amazing at their jobs,” Janene said. And the loyal staff has also been reflected in the loyal clientele. “I have three generations of one family that come in to see me - grandma, mum and the kids,” Janene said. “It makes you feel old but also proud that there are people who have been coming to you for 20 years and now their kids and their kids’ kids want to have their hair done here.” Janene has also
maintained a long standing relationship with L’Oreal.“I’ve been with L’Oreal from the start,” Janene said. “That’s been another association that has lasted the test of time.” GHD and Eleven are the other long standing suppliers with which Janene has built a strong working relationship. Twenty years in the same job, let alone the same industry, is becoming the exception rather than the rule, but for Janene, the industry still holds the same appeal today that it did when she first started out. “I love the transformation - the way someone comes in to see you and whether it’s a blowdry or a complete restyle, cut and colour, they leave feeling good about themselves,” Janene said. “It really is so rewarding to see how happy you can make someone just by doing your job well.” Last year also saw Janene move from her start up premises in the Filder & Webb complex to her new home in the Mount Gambier Community RSL complex on Ferrers Street. It was barely a 400m move but it was tough to leave the salon she had called home for two decades. “There were so many memories there and it was tough to go but everyone loves the new salon and it is a great space for staff and clients,” Janene said.
Running your own business, being your own boss is very challenging but very rewarding. “Do what you love every day.” This is the motto I live by. I have been running Engelbrecht Cane & Cafe for only six months but I really can’t imagine being anywhere else. Being a six and seven day a week business you really have to love what you do. The people we meet each and every day are a very diverse lot, from all walks of life, all over the world. On any given day, there are visitors to our town from countries such as Sweden, Switzerland, Russia, Netherlands, Germany, France, Ireland. etc. They all have a story to tell. No two days are the same because our customer base changes daily. I believe it’s important to have a great staff and local knowledge to listen to your customers. At Engelbrecht Cave & Cafe, we serve Mahalia coffee and teas, locally sourced from Robe, as well as homemade cakes and treats, which our customers seem to really enjoy Our cave is very different to the other local caves as it is a totally dry cave, but with underground lakes. Sound confusing? Why not come for the experience? Opening hours - Thurs-Tues - 9.30am-3.30pm Tours - 10-2 (on the hour)

Magnolia Natural Medicine
Dr. Dianne Connell
Magnolia Natural Medicine is an holistic health care centre run by Dr Dianne Connell, a registered Acupuncturist and Natural Medicine practitioner. In addition to qualifications in acupuncture, herbal and nutritional medicine, Dianne has also had extensive training in several fields of energy medicine. She ran a busy practice in Melbourne for 13 years before moving to Mount Gambier in 2008. Dianne practices Traditional Chinese Medicine which may involve acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion, electro-acupuncture, laser acupuncture, gua sha, plum blossom needling, Tui Na and Chinese herbs. Flower essences, pranic healing, aromatherapy, reiki or crystal healing may also be used, as needed, to bring you to a state of balance and healing. As a practitioner of natural medicine (i.e.not a GP) medical diagnoses cannot be made. This means we can’t suggest you have a particular disease or medical condition. We rely on conventional medicine to give us this information from blood tests and other diagnostic machines. Our role is to delve below the surface and find causes of your condition, using a system of healing that focuses on improving the overall well being of the patient. It treats the underlying cause of disease as well as alleviating symptoms and treats the body as a whole so is true “holistic” medicine. 22 Auvale Crescent, Mount Gambier Ph: (08)8725 2315

She has completed a Laser Safety Certificate for IPL and light based therapies, also an intensive skin specific and comsecutical ingredient training through the Medical Aesthetics Institute, in Sydney. “Upskilling is the only way to give our clients the best possible outcomes when it comes to their skin health,” Mardi said. “By attending the skin symposium with esteemed dermal trainer Gay Wardle, this achieved just that.” Every month Mardi and the advanced skin clinic team are continuing to advance their product and advanced skin peels training. Mardi’s knowledge and expertise has expanded, so has the services offered by Fuss Wellness Advanced Skin Clinic. “All our treatments and products are directed toward generating collagen within your skin which in turn gives you younger
looking, healthier skin,” Mardi said. “Our products don’t just work on the surface of the skin, they work within the cell itself so it fundamentally changes the way the skin behaves. Our skincare is more than the cleanse, tone, moisturise that you are used to, which won’t get the skin behaving in a way that you need in order to create change in the skin.” The team at Fuss Wellness Advanced Skin Clinic make it their business to get to know you and your skin intimately right from the start with a thorough consultation before any treatment from their extensive menu is offered. IPL offers hair removal, vessels, pigmentation, photojuvenation and acne to Q switch NdYag laser that targets tattoo removal and pigmentation. All their products are medical grade correctives that will give your skin health and get it behaving like it did when it was younger. With new treatments arriving on board constantly, plus injectables being offered and a doctor coming on board in a consultant role, Fuss is heading in a direction that will allow people in the community to have treatments that are only available in the metropolitan areas. Liana’s Chiropractic Centre
Liana Ruggiero might have been born in Adelaide but Mount Gambier is definitely home for the long serving chiropractor. She has worked in the Blue Lake city for the past 26 years, running her own practice for 21 of those and she is definitely in it for the long haul. She has clients on her books who have been seeing for the past two decades and now she is seeing their children as well and she loves the cross-generational aspect of her work here. “I do feel like part of the fabric of Mount Gambier,” Liana said. “And I look forward to serving the community for many years to come.” Liana has a focus on families in her wide ranging practice, with a particular interest in pregnant women and children. “I use a low force technique that is safe and I base my practice around wellness for families,” Liana said. It was Liana’s own positive experience with chiropractic that led her down this career path in the first place. “It was in Year 12 that I had some chiropractic care which cleared my headaches and it just got me thinking about chiropractic as a career,” she said. And her passion for working with children has always been the foundation of her own practice. “I love
working with children because you know you are helping them reach their potential, helping them to grow up to be the best they can be,” she said. Nothing occurs in the body without, being perceived by the brain and the correct responses then being initiated. These messages travel to and from the brain via the spinal cord which is housed in the spine. Any misalignments in the spinal segments may create a change in function. Chiropractic is about identifying the misalignments to allow the nervous system and thus the body to function the best it can. “I have enjoyed the wonderful support of many associate chiropractors in my practice in the 21 years and at present Dr Catherine Livingston has been in the Mount Gambier community and my practice for almost three years and is looking to stay longer, it is great to be able to share this great community with other chiropractors.”

Fiona Wall Fine Foods
Chef Fiona Wall’s passion and love for traditional baking began as a child, with vivid memories of baking cakes and biscuits in an old wood-fired stove with her grandmother. Fiona continued her grandmother’s tradition and as she moved into adulthood her love and passion for cooking intensified. Upon moving to rural Victoria in 2000, Fiona established a catering service operating from her home which was equipped with a commercial kitchen. As a further expression of her passion, Fiona soon began to offer cooking classes to her local community. With an ever growing reputation for quality and distinctive taste, demand for Fiona’s products increased but it was the creation of her gourmet homemade biscuits that led to the establishment of Fiona Wall Fine Foods. Fiona’s award winning packaged biscuits are now sold around Australia and the World.

When it comes to outstanding individual performances, this latest round of Mount Gambier & District Cricket Association action produced more than its fair share. There were four centuries and a couple of outstanding performances with the ball as well, from a maiden century for a North Gambier batsman to two players racking up their second centuries for the season, to a player usually expected to perform with the ball rather than the bat. Cox Bros player Marbuck Saunders reached three figures for the first time in his cricket career, reaching 137 in an innings that saw 21 fours and one six. It was in Cox Bros action that Daryl Lewis (pictured top right) also scored a ton, reaching three figures for the second time this season, hitting 17 fours on his way to 103, adding to the 163 he scored earlier in the 2014/15 season. For Matthew Fatchen, it was his second successive century, after securing 123 in Centrals 2nd innings last weekend before carving an impressive 148 at the weekend. His innings included 12 fours and he cleared the boundary an astonishing 13 times. The other century came in the Barber Shield when Yahl skipper made an impressive and important 131, keeping his side well and truly in the hunt for top spot after this final minor round. The batsmen didn’t have it all their own way though, with East Gambier’s Cox Bros allrounder Kyle Chapman snaring 7/48 as the Bulldogs dispatched Kalangadoo for only 100. Chapman bowled 16 overs unchanged from one end, picking up his first wicket in his second over, before snaring his second in his seventh over, two poles in his eighth, another in his 15th and then two in the final over of his spell. Crouch Shield bowler Mark Cooper also produced a damaging spell with the ball. The day started well for Cooper, snaring a wicket with his second ball of the day before sending down a double wicket maiden in his fifth over, another wicket in his ninth over and then a wicket with the last ball of the innings. It was five wickets for Will Clayfield as well, when he picked up match figures of 5/14 from his 12 overs in Crouch Shield action. Clayfield had 3/2 from his first three overs before picking up the final two wickets of his bag in his 9th and 10th overs. Six of Clayfield’s 12 overs were maidens. North Gambier’s Tim Young (pictured above bottom left) also picked up a bag of wickets, taking 5/49 from 21 overs to ensure Yahl was restricted to a chaseable target despite Reader’s heroics. Penola’s Brett Vaughan (pictured above bottom right) also picked up a five wicket haul, taking 5/35. Mention should also be made of Allendale’s Ryan Williams, who strode to the crease in Allendale’s innings with the score at 7/98 but his unbeaten 56 and 22 from Travis Smith steered their side to a much more defendable 188 and in the end Allendale claimed the title by 17 runs.
SOUTH EAST CRICKETERS HEADING TO LANGHORNE CREEK TO TAKE ON CITY SLICKERS After snaring the 2015 Bank SA Country Cricket Championship, the South East line-up is heading to Langhorne Creek this weekend to take on Adelaide Turf, the metropolitan champions in a 40 over a side clash this Sunday. There have been some changes to the championship line-up but skipper Robbie Drenthen is till pleased with the depth and versatility of his squad. Adam Somerfield, Dave Somerfield, Mitch Lewis and Nick Cruise have come into the line-up joining Alex Hentschke, Mick Waters, Mark Smith, Ben Wilson, Jake Schutz, Matt McInerney and Drenthen to tackle Adelaide Turf and hopefully emerge the victors.

Although the initial rounds for the 2015 Ladies’ Singles Championship of the Millicent Bowling Club were played on earlier last month, it was not until last Wednesday that the Singles Champion was known. The consolation final was played between Margaret Fennell and Heather Carthew with Margaret coming out on top but Judy Saint’s ill health had postponed the final and, although gallantly fighting on, Judy had to concede to Esther Scudds after 14 ends with the scores at 11 all.

Motor MOTOR Holden has announced the introduction of a new, ground-breaking Lifetime Capped Price Service (CPS) program – the largest of its kind in in Australia. The Lifetime CPS program applies to every Holden ever built since the first Holden 48-215 in 1948, ensuring that all Holden owners clearly understand the maximum price that they can expect to pay at every scheduled service. Holden’s Executive Director of Aftersales, Michael Filazzola said the unique Lifetime CPS program represents Holden’s commitment to providing customers a positive experience throughout their ownership experience, no matter when they bought their new, or used, Holden. “Our all-encompassing Lifetime Capped Price Servicing program is an incredible program and demonstrates yet again our commitment to our customers. Holden owners from as far back as 1948 can enjoy total peace of mind and service price transparency,” said Mr. Filazzola. “This is the biggest CPS program in Australia and underlines Holden’s ongoing commitment to world-class customer service and outstanding value. Our lifetime CPS means that once customers buy a Holden, of any age, new or used, we have them covered.” The easy-to-use Lifetime CPS calculator found on the Holden website, clearly displays the maximum service price of any Holden vehicle, ensuring that customers will not pay more than expected when visiting their Holden Dealer for a scheduled service. In addition to the all-inclusive, Lifetime CPS program and to further demonstrate the importance Holden places on providing clear service pricing and customer value, the first seven services for all eligible new vehicles will be subsidised. Holden’s Executive Director of Sales, Peter Keley said the introduction of the biggest CPS program in Australia was yet another sign of Holden’s longterm commitment to its customers and Australia. “We are proud to be able to introduce the Lifetime CPS program and extend our outstanding servicing value to all Holden owners, regardless of whether they have bought a new or used car,” said Mr. Keley.
Popular machinery rally returns to Naracoorte The 5th Pist’n’Broke Machinery Rally is back again in March at the Naracoorte Showgrounds. The last time it was held was in October 2013 and it proved to be the wrong time of the year as it clashed with harvesting and local South East shows. This year’s dates are March 14 and 15. Held by The Naracoorte Historic Vehicle Club this rally is enjoyed by enthusiasts from all over South Australia and parts of Victoria. Displays will include tractors, stationary engines and vintage and veteran motor vehicles. A tractor trek will be held Saturday afternoon and is organised by Dean Seigert and is well supported. Naturally the visiting ladies will be looked after by the Cartwright Pavilion being filled with market stalls. The monthly market usually held at the club’s grounds will be transferred to the Rally for March only. Patrons will be well fed by the Angling Club who are in charge of catering on the day. The club has been well supported by local business houses and it is much appreciated. Anyone interested in entering the rally can contact John Paech (08)8765 1097 or 0428 854 919 and Ron Gillies (08)8762 3592 or 0428 349 092. Interested market stallers can contact Daphne Burford (08)8762 2143 or 0438 622 143.
Girls get the job done at Clipsal Holden donated a set of ‘jaws of life’ rescue equipment to motorsport fire and rescue organisation Women for Wheels of South Australia, which will be supporting the Clipsal 500 V8 Supercar event in Adelaide last week. Women for Wheels is a volunteer-based, not-for-profit organisation that was originally formed by the wives and girlfriends of motorsport participants who wanted to improve the fire and rescue facilities and expertise for these events. From there it grew to 45 volunteers who cover up to 140 race days per year, including at Mallala Motorsport Park and the SKYCITY Triple Crown in Darwin, in addition to the Clipsal 500 Adelaide. Women for Wheels President Liam Meegan said that the costs of purchasing and maintaining vehicles, rescue equipment and protective uniforms were high, and donations such as Holden’s were welcomed by the organisation. “It takes a lot of fundraising for Women for Wheels to be able to invest in an extra set of rescue equipment, but with Holden’s donation we now have enough equipment to allow us to continue to provide an exceptional level of safety to competitors of motorsport and allow for further growth as a club into different and new events into the future,” Mr Meegan said. “On behalf of Women for Wheels, I can’t thank Holden enough for their generosity in supporting our organisation and it reflects their commitment to motorsport in Australia also”. Holden Corporate Affairs Manager Sophie Milic said that Holden was thrilled to be able to help Women for Wheels in their work. “Motorsport is a part of Holden’s DNA, and we are equally committed to safety. It’s thanks to the dedication of fire and rescue volunteers that there’s such a high standard of safety at these events, which is why we’re so pleased to be able to support Women for Wheels,” Ms Milic said. Women for Wheels was the official facilitator of the trackside fire and rescue team at the Clipsal 500, using four vehicles and more than 35 crew working trackside over the four day event. “As a club, we will be well represented with our purpose-built fire and rescue vehicles scattered around the circuit, ready to attend to any accident, with a wealth of expertise from our members either in these vehicles, in the pit lane or in race control,” Mr Meegan said.
