ladies, and gentlemen, Onye Eze, Ndi Nze na Ozo, High Chiefs and Chief, and Iyoms. Nke onye chie, ya gazie. My name is Princess Dr. Lilian Ndukwe (Ugoyibo), president of this great Association: Anambra State Women Association of Southern California. I welcome you all to this great occasion being the fundraising to support our ongoing projects here in America and Anambra State in Nigeria. But before explaining our previous and current project plans, permit me to tell you a little bit about this great association

Dr. Adaku Mogbo. The plan to start this association originated from ASA-SC under the leadership of Chief Dr. George Ilouno and was convened by Professor Dr. Adaku Mogbo and Mrs. Amaka Machie (Mrs. Machie has moved) and other ladies. These two ladies were able to gather other women from Anambra state to join, I happened to be among those that were called, who answered and remained a member till the present. I remembered very well that on our first meeting in Gardena, Chief Paul Ifediba and Late Mr. Frank Oba came to address and advise us as delegates from ASA SC.

ASWA-SC has been in existence for 18yrs and still waxing strong with peace, love, harmony, and a commitment of all our members. For the past 18 years, this association has

had 4 previous presidents: Mrs. Amaka Machie (interim president), Barrister Mrs. Dorothy Akpamugbo, Mrs. Ngozi Onwualu, Attorney (Mrs.) Amaka Ada Akudinobi, and my humble self, Princess Dr. Lilian Ndukwe. The association has grown its membership to almost 200 and new members are still coming in every meeting day. Our meeting started in one of the member’s home like I mentioned earlier but has grown so big that it required a bigger place and through the benevolence and altruism of one of our community leaders and illustrious son, Chief Dr. Nwachukwu Anakwenze( Onowu Abagana, Okaomee, Okala Mmuo, Okala Mmadu), a bigger hall at Gardena Memorial Hospital was made available to ASWA-SC for our meetings for many years at no charge. Onowo, we especially appreciate

you. We also appreciate all that have helped ASWASC in one way or the other, including our doors past and present, may God bless you.  ASWA-SC has been involved in a lot of community outreach both here and in Nigeria, we started the Maternity project years ago, and our previous plan was to assist one town in Anambra yearly with medical equipment to Maternity in Anambra State. Our first project was at Amaku, Awka, and the second one at Onitsha (You can see some of the pictures in the slide show). Our women traveled home and made the presentation to the then honorable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joe Akabuike, who received it on behalf of the state Government. Since the pandemic, we have not been able to carry out any more projects for the past 4yrs. But with the pandemic somewhat in our rearview mirror now, we are restarting these projects, to this effect, we humbly request your support in other to continue these projects. We also wish to remind you that we are a 501 ( c ) (3) association and as such, any donations to our association will be taxdeductible.

ASWA-SC has also provided a helping hand to our communities here in California, visiting Roland Macdonald’s house and Forgotten Children where we made a monetary donation to assist in their goal. ASWA also has organized community outreach on breast cancer awareness and gathering our young adults together. ASWA-SC has also been involved with ASA-SC in a joint effort in awarding annual academic scholarships to our collegebound children. We will continue to assist and reach out to our communities here and abroad with the help of your monetary donations and financial support today.

I pray that God will replenish your pockets.

I want to use this opportunity to thank God Almighty for allowing me to carry this leadership assignment to completion without complications. Also, I want to thank my husband, Prince Goddy Ndukwe (Nwa Onyeze), my children, and my mother Mrs. Felicia Umeibe (Nne Obioma) who is also a member of this association for all their support and prayers. Other thanks go to our team members (Executives body and Board members), you

ladies made this leadership seems so easy. Thanks for your support and ability to work together to see that the ASWA-SC agenda were achieved as we progress to the next level. I want also to thank all ASWA members and youth leaders who have supported my team and me during these 4 years. God will always be there for you whenever you need His help. Special thanks to the Fundraising committees, you ladies have been working behind and in front of the scenes to ensure that this day is achieved under the Able Chairlady Mrs. Stella Osemeka. You ladies volunteered and took it upon yourselves to work for ASWA-SC, and the result today is a huge and successful event. I thank you and entire ASWA-SC members appreciate you and we pray that God will continue to strengthen you and take you back to your different destination in peace in Jesus’s name Amen.

California (ASWA-SC) is a non-profit organization with philanthropic initiatives for improving living conditions and access to health care services, providing educational opportunities, nurturing cultural values, sustaining the environment and adopting technologies to inspire and empower women and children in Anambra State, Nigeria and in the United States of America. The activities and interactions of the association are deeply rooted in the motto “UNITY IS STRENGTH”. ASWA-SC aims to foster unity, mutual understanding, harmony, interdependent living among all the members as well as with different communities in the United States of America.

In addition, the association strives to preserve, uphold, and promote their cultural heritage and relationship with other organizations, exchange ideas and information in order to enhance understanding within the local community. ASWA-SC also engages in humanitarian, philanthropic, charitable activities and events in areas of education, healthcare, the environment and community development in Anambra State, Nigeria and United States of America. Other programs and activities include youth empowerment and cultural awareness among the youth within our community.

The association started with a push by Anambra State Association of Southern California (ASA-SC) that women form a separate association. Prior to this

time, Anambra State men and women belonged to one association - ASA-SC. The intention of the men was to form a women’s wing with membership limited to those whose husbands were members of ASASC. The association held its inaugural meeting on July 18, 2004. However, the pioneers of ASWA-SC caught a vision with a broader goal of providing a platform for all Anambra State women either by birth, adoption, or marriage, to come together to make a difference within the community in Nigeria and in the USA. Based on this premise, the association sought and became an independent nonprofit public benefit corporation for charitable purposes. Mrs. Amaka Machie became the pro-term President from August 2004 to February 2005. In February 2005,

Mrs. Dorothy Akpamgbo assumed leadership as the first elected President of ASWA-SC. ASWA-SC became incorporated as a nonprofit public benefit corporation and established as a 501© (3) corporation in October 2008 following her formal inauguration ceremony on August 11, 2007.

During these past years, ASWA-SC has seen exponential growth in membership. The association is about 200 members strong. ASWASC is a pioneer state-based women’s organization in our community that has withstood the test of time. The achievements within the community as well as the impact ASWA-SC has made in society continue to draw people in to become members. ASWASC continues to make significant contributions to the community in Southern California as well as in Nigeria. Notable among these are donations of equipment to maternity wards of General Hospital Amaku Awka in August 2010 and General Hospital Onitsha in January 2017.

Locally, the association has engaged and continues to engage the youth and young adults in programs including Conversation with our Daughters, a forum that has provided an opportunity for dialogue with our young daughters, to understand their perspectives on different issues as a way of “Building Bridges to a Brighter Future”. Following this partnership, the association organized a Youth Day program for young girls aged 14 to 21 in August 2015 that focused on Cybersafety, Health and Wellness, Career prospects, Life Skills, Budgeting, Indigenous Igbo Culture, and hands-on cooking projects. ASWA-SC in collaboration with ASA-SC awards annual scholarships to members’ children attending first-year postsecondary education. The association has also been involved in charitable work locally by donating to Ronald McDonald House of Charities and Forgotten Children, Inc. With the current state of health care in Nigeria, ASWA-SC desires to do more through a partnership with the Ministry of Health to continue to provide needed

equipment to health/maternitysupportcenters in Anambra State.

The successes ASWA-SC has achieved so far are largely due to the strength of the bond that Onaedo women share, the pride with which we own who we are, the resources and talents

members are willing to commit to the association, and the able leadership the association has enjoyed over the years. Every leader that ASWA-SC has had, from Mrs. Amaka Machie, Mrs. Dorothy Akpamgbo, Esq., Mrs. Ngozi Onwualu, Attorney (Mrs.) Amaka Ada Akudinobi, and currently, Princess Dr. (Mrs.). Lilian Ndukwe has brought uniqueness, vision, talent, and resourcefulness to make the association what it is
