hat can we say, we love a bold color story, and this style shoot absolutely delivers! Ryan Abney, owner and head planner of RA + AR Design Collaborative, wanted to create a simple yet elegant shoot with colors that popped against this venue’s clean slate atmosphere. The floral arrangements were colored to match the overarching moody feel, while the fern greenery added a touch of tropics to the atmosphere.

THE EASIEST GUIDE TO changing your last name

AFTER THE WEDDING

Y

our newlywed bliss can quickly come to an end when it comes time to endure the dreaded task of changing your last name. The legal process can often take the romance out of taking your significant other’s last name. If you get yourself organized with the proper documents, the process can be less strenuous, allowing you to continue to revel in your newlywed happiness.

1. GET THE ORIGINAL

3. APPLY FOR A NEW LICENSE

5. UPDATE YOUR BANK

Getting a new license from the local Bureau of Motor Vehicles office requires a few documents, namely your old license, the original marriage license and your new Social Security card. Remember to change your address if you have moved after the wedding.

The easiest way to do this is to visit your local branch in person. Take your new license, your marriage license and your new Social Security card, and ask for your name to be changed on your account. Request new checks, debit cards and credit cards with your new name.

2. REQUEST A NEW SOCIAL

4. CHANGE YOUR LAST NAME

6. UPDATE YOUR LAST NAME

If you visit the Social Security Administration’s website, you can find an application for a change of name here. This is a free service. Print the application, fill it out, and include any required documents. You can either take your application to a nearby Social Security office or mail it in. You should receive your new card with your new last name in approximately 10 days.

When your new Social Security card comes in the mail, meet with your HR manager at work to switch your name over. This includes payroll, 401k, your insurance benefits, stocks etc.

MARRIAGE LICENSE FROM THE CLERK’S OFFICE The original license should come from the clerk’s office where your license was filed. One should automatically be sent to you a couple weeks after the wedding. The original document should have a raised seal and your new last name. Also, it’s a good idea to request copies.

50

WEDDINGDAY

W EDDI NG DAY ’ S EXC LU SIVE DE T ROIT DIG ITAL COVE R SH OOT

THE VISION Celebrate love in an abstract style with WeddingDay’s Spring/ Summer Detroit digital cover shoot! Ryan Abney, head planner and owner of Ryan Abney Event Design, had a vision that focused on a color palette that wasn’t often seen for spring and summer weddings. Her use of organic and earthy tones created abstract, artsy vibes that you’re sure to swoon over. Captured by Ellie Frances Photography, this cover shoot utilizes a variety of spring colors and textures to draw elegance from the eclectic!

THE VENUE Pontiac, Michigan’s The Crofoot boasted a variety of spaces with many options to choose from for our shoot. The indoor spaces offered high ceilings, exposed brick and stunning natural light to create a dreamy rustic atmosphere, while the outdoor areas provide plenty of stunning photo ops. The Ballroom also showcased its flexibility when closed blinds and lively lighting created an intimate moody atmosphere that’s perfect for an evening of dancing and drinking! ELLIE FRANCES PHOTOGRAPHY

WEDDINGDAY 51

ELLIE FRANCES PHOTOGRAPHY

THE DÉCOR With the idea of an intimate ceremony in mind, this eclectic tablescape offers a unique organic spin on an elegant micro-celebration. The springtime color palette takes on earthy tones through the tableware. Multi-colored glassware, textured plates and candles all create an eccentric abstract theme. Fresh fruit wedges, clay pot seat markers and fanning menus were used as a nod to the shoot’s garden atmosphere. 52

WEDDINGDAY

THE LOOK Keeping in line with the rest of the shoot’s colors and elegance, the model’s hair and makeup was styled gracefully by Primp Beauty. With copper toned makeup, her gorgeous sparkly smokey eye perfectly accents her natural beauty. Her delicate and intricate bun holds her hair back to showcase the beaded back of this stunning Becker’s Bridal dress. The gown’s silhouette is simple, sophisticated and oh-so-elegant! Her look is topped off with statement jewelry crafted by Larson Jewelry Design.

WEDDINGDAY 53

THE FLORALS The floral designs created by Flowers for Dreams Detroit are truly awe-inspiring. From the large blooming bouquet to the small, detailed flowers added into the bridal fan accessory, this abstract style is so elegant it looks as though they were pulled straight from a garden. The luscious varieties of roses and greenery showcase the fluidity of springtime while still maintaining an elevated, artsy look. Bright shades of yellows and oranges add the perfect pop of color to this blushing color palette!

ELLIE FRANCES PHOTOGRAPHY 54

THE STATIONERY Romantic textures and tones were big inspirations for this stationery suite! The Ambrosia Rabbit’s old world invitation set included a custom wax seal and deckled edges, tied together with a sweet ribbon. Abstract strokes of paint on the invitations and curved RSVP cards add a touch of playfulness to the suite. Wanting to incorporate modern shapes into the shoot, the signage used drew from organic and earthy tones, keeping simple yet modern elevated circular designs.

THE CAKE & DESSERTS This three-tiered square cake is more than a dessert—it’s a gorgeous piece of art! Sugar & Spice Bakeshop designed the dessert’s unconventional look as a nod to the shoot’s abstract theme. Additional sweet treats, including tarts and dessert shooters, help make this dessert table look simply scrumptious! 56
