The Black Hole Next Door By Liam Shevill 3rd Draft 18-4-18 OPEN ON: BLACK NARRATOR (V.O) “Floating through the milky way…” FADE IN: POV from a space suit, floating through our galaxy, the hands and legs slowly moving in and out of view as we look around at clusters and nebulae. “...between 200 billion stars” View moves around, at nebulas and stars, a distant asteroid moves from the right to the left and our eyes leave it as in the background behind it we see... “to its centre, A supermassive black hole, Sagittarius A*.” Cue title. “4 million times the size of our sun, there are a cluster of stars in its orbit, some going up to 3,000 miles a second.” Mid shot - Follow one of the orbiting suns a little. Another sun behind it on different trajectory, maybe some info lines that map their paths. Then a swipe as a sun crosses the screen. “Closer now, and there is a blinding light, created when an inner disk of matter and gas, trying to escape the black hole, creates friction against the slower outer disk, reaching temperatures of 13000 degrees. Too hot to survive.“
