HEAD OF SCHOOL

DEAR FAMILIES, ALUMNI, AND FRIENDS OF THE LYCÉE,

We are proud to present our 2023-2024 Report of Giving, a written record of the generosity of the Lycée community. I hope you find what we’ve accomplished this year as inspiring as I do. As I reflect on the 2023-2024 school year, I remember moments of togetherness, school spirit, and achievement.

We kicked off the school year with our favorite tradition, a lively Rentrée. Each year, Rentrée sets the tone for the next nine months of learning and growth at the Lycée. It starts right at our doors, with excitement building on the commute to school! The return of our students follows a week at Camp Pontiac for fall athletes and two weeks of orientation for our faculty and staff. Everyone is ready to kick off a successful year together.

Soon after Rentrée came our annual Lycée Cares event, a fitting first community-wide gathering of the school year, focused on giving back to our city. An essential pillar of the Lycée’s mission is encouraging students to build community and make a difference. With its focus on feeding food insecure New Yorkers, Lycée Cares is the opportunity to build meaningful learning opportunities for our students in partnership with our families.

Empowering each of our students is at the core of what we do at the Lycée, and our Gala theme this year was a perfect representation of that. “La Force au féminin: Within all of us,” highlighted the accomplishments of women as leaders and their roles in shaping communities like ours and their impact on our lives. Our honoree, Leena Nair, set an inspiring example for our students as they look towards the future.

We closed out our school year with our beloved Spring Fair, an event that celebrates the diversity and strength of our community unlike any other. With dozens of country booths tapping the spirit of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, it was a community event to cherish! Performances throughout the weekend of the school musical, Grease!, only added to the festivities.

Reflecting on the school year, we again lived up to our mission: to prepare students of many origins to be thinkers, innovators and leaders, at home in the world. We inspired and encouraged each student to excel and seek academic and personal challenge, to discover interests and fulfill talents, to embrace diversity and build community, to uphold integrity and contribute to making a difference.

At the center of all we accomplished was our community. We could not have had such a year without your kindness, support, and generosity. Thank you! We are who we are because of you.

WITH GRATITUDE | AVEC TOUS MES REMERCIEMENTS,

J. Dean Amro

CHAIR OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

DEAR LYCÉE COMMUNITY,

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I would like to take a moment to extend my sincere gratitude to every donor and volunteer recognized in the 20232024 report. The generosity of Lycée families like yours has allowed us to accomplish so much, and our Report of Giving highlights the strength of our community. The gifts of time, talent, and treasure offered by hundreds of individuals truly speak volumes about the importance and relevance of the Lycée’s mission.

The theme of our last Gala, “La Force au féminin: Within All of Us,” which honored Leena Nair, Global CEO of Chanel was a powerful reminder of the resounding impact women have on each of our lives. It reminds us how the Lycée strives every day to empower students, girls and boys alike, to dream big and leave the world a better place. The event was a resounding success, thanks to the dedicated work of our four incredible co-chairs Charlotte Balcaen-Croonenberghs, France Descours, Sheida Ellini, and Lola Moore who led the event with care, compassion, and deep commitment to the theme. Through their dedication, we were able to raise over $2.4 million, our highest amount to date. Thank you to all who participated at every level, volunteered, donated their time and helped to obtain auction lots, supporting us through ticket and table purchases. We truly appreciate your efforts.

Contributions to the Annual Fund help strengthen what you and your families love most about the Lycée - our academic programs, athletics, financial aid, robust Cultural Center schedule, and professional development opportunities for our faculty and staff. Together, we raised $1.34 million toward the Annual Fund last year. I would like to extend my deep gratitude to our Annual Fund co-chairs, David Benichou, Eva Chancel, and Nasry Joseph. Your leadership is deeply appreciated and valued.

Throughout the year, we were able to come together for our most cherished community events. Early on in the academic year, we witnessed community giving; so many Lycée families volunteered at our annual Lycée Cares Lycée Cares showcases the dedication the Lycée has for the people most in need. In the winter, over 300 of us laced up our skates for an evening of ice skating at Chelsea Piers. Finally, in the spring, with representation from over 20 countries, we held our Spring Fair, where our community had the opportunity to take a tour of the world and celebrate the Lycée’s wonderful mosaic of cultures. I warmly want to thank our Spring Fair co-chairs, Nadine Haidar, Nicole Wallace-Ardiet, and Soraya Victory. A special extension of gratitude to each of our parent and student volunteers across all events – without you, we wouldn’t have been able to make our community events as impactful as they were.

Finally, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees and Chair of the Development Committee Fadwa Robb, and my wife, Amira, the Vice-Chair of the Development Committee; their strong dedication, continuous energy and efforts, push forth all of these development initiatives year after year. My thanks of course extend to the entire Development Committee for their thoughtfulness and sustained efforts to help the Lycée, in so many ways. Thank you for everything that you do for our students and community.

Notre Gala 2024, “La force au féminin : Within All of Us”, rendait hommage à Leena Nair, Global CEO de Chanel.

WITH ALL

Impact of Giving

Every year, the Lycée’s annual operating income comprises four main sources: tuition, advancement efforts, co-curricular activities and fees, and support from the endowment.

Thanks to the support of our donors, the Lycée is able to invest in programs that further our mission and meet the needs of our bilingual, pluricultural community such as:

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

The Lycée is committed to developing a Franco-American curriculum that fosters academic excellence, cultural fluency, and global citizenship. The support of our donors allows the school to develop and maintain a rigorous academic program that cultivates curiosity, creativity, independent thinking, and intercultural collaboration. In 2024, 94% of Terminale students received a mention on their Baccalauréat examination, and had a 100% pass rate. Our 2024 ninth graders have achieved a 100% pass rate on the French national Brevet exam—all with mention and 78% with mention très bien

FINANCIAL AID

Ensuring the continued accessibility of a Lycée education is at the core of our mission. Thanks to support from the Annual Fund, the Lycée’s financial aid program has reached $5.9 million This increase has allowed our school to dramatically growth the number of students served by financial aid, helping to preserve the historical socio-economic diversity of our community and opening the doors of our Lycée to more families.

FACULTY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Extraordinary teaching is at the heart of our Lycée. We encourage faculty members to develop new skills and increase their knowledge through conferences, fellowships, and independent research projects. Recent awards supported by the Annual Fund have allowed faculty to strengthen the curriculum and bring the most up-to-date teaching methods into the classrooms. 100% of faculty and staff participate in professional development opportunities each year.

ATHLETICS AND COCURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Learning at the Lycée does not stop when the school days end. Students are encouraged to take on new challenges and broaden their interests through any of the 150 after-school clubs and programs offered, or to learn the value of perseverance, commitment, and teamwork as a member of an athletic team. Donations provide critical support for all programs, which are heavily subsidized by the Lycée. Go Lynx!

CULTURAL CENTER

The Cultural Center offers an exciting program of events and activities for Lycée students and the greater Lycée community. Not only does it host these events and activities, the Cultural Center enriches the curriculum for every Lycée student through the Artist-in-Residence program. This program provides them with the opportunity to meet and learn from artistic leaders in every field.

During 2023-2024, we were able to award $5.9 million in financial aid to Lycée families in need. Over 150 families benefited, with the average award being $26,695. With your support, we were able to provide the financial help to allow 220 more students to attend the Lycée greatly impacting their future and diversifying our classrooms.

We are looking forward to continuing to expand our financial aid program, so more students can experience everything that makes the Lycée so special.

2023-2024 ANNUAL GALA

Over 700 guests came together to celebrate the Lycée’s 25th annual Gala for a spectacular evening at the Glasshouse, on May 9, 2024. The theme, “La Force au féminin: Within all of us”, highlighted the accomplishments of women and their role in shaping communities and society, and emphasized the importance of celebrating the female leaders in our lives and the impact they have on all of us. We raised over $2.4 million, our highest amount yet. Thank you to all who participated, volunteered, donated their time and helped to obtain auction lots, supporting us through ticket and table purchases. We truly appreciate your efforts.

The Gala’s honoree, Leena Nair, Global CEO of Chanel, embodies female leadership and strength in both her professional and personal accomplishments. Our program featured a discussion between Gala honoree

Leena Nair and board member David Jones; remarks by J. Dean Amro, Chairman of the Board of Trustees and by Jérémie Bourdon, Head of School; student speeches; an inspiring student dance performance in collaboration with renowned modern dance company Pilobolus; and an exciting live auction.

Our centerpieces this year were ceramic vases, created by a family of master ceramicists in Morocco, whose traditional craft has been passed down from generation to generation. Each vase was completely unique and entirely handmade, and echoed the singular strength, power, and “force au féminin” within each of us.

Our heartfelt thanks to the Gala 2024 Co-Chairs, Charlotte Croonenberghs, France Descours, Sheida Ellini, and Lola Moore, for sharing so much of your time, creativity, grace, and deep commitment to the Gala’s theme to make this event an incredible success.

Alumni Donors and Community Events

Alumni play a pivotal role in sharing stories of their time at the Lycée, championing our mission, and volunteering their time and talent to mentor our current students. Last year, alumni gathered at the Lycée for an All-Class Reunion featuring a concert with alumni musicians who flew in from Europe for the occasion. Lycée alumni also supported our current students by participating in panels and mentorship opportunities throughout the year. Last year, alumni served as panelists for secondary 2nde/Y10 students sharing their professional experience and higher education choices. Alumni also took part in the Lycée’s “Be the Change” service learning and social entrepreneurship program. They provided students with opportunities to explore their professional potential, hosting their end-of-year internships in the Spring. They also participated in a College Counseling panel as well as in advisory support to Terminales to offer advice for choosing and applying to college.

Terminale Class Gift

Each year, working with the Development Department, Terminale students leave their impact on the Lycée through the Terminale Legacy Gift.

T’24, with the idea of strengthening school spirit at the core, decided to fund an important update to the bleachers (gradins) in the main gym. The main gym is at the heart of our school, and welcomes not only members of our Lycée community, but people across New York City. New bleachers will allow more Lycée sports fans to attend games, while also making them ADA accessible to ensure everyone is able to enjoy and participate in school spirit.

Thank you to everyone who supported the 2024 Terminale Legacy Gift.

Thank you to our Terminale Legacy Gift Co-Chairs, Orla Coleman, Catherine Durand-Brault, Aida Saliby, and Nadine Sayegh.

Lycée Community Events

Lycée Cares

On November 4, 2023, almost 100 Lycée families came together to volunteer at our 7th annual Lycée Cares, helping to combat food insecurity. We packed more than 3,500 snack bags for hungry NewYorkers, and worked closely with City Harvest to arrange distributionstopeoplewhoneeded it most.

We would like to acknowledge the Lycée Cares co-chairs, Marissa Deladerrière, Daba Dia, and Janene White-Plaza, for their heartfelt effort and commitment to making this event a success, and thank all those who participated for giving back and making an impact!

Skating Party

Over 300 Lycée families laced up their skates and hit the ice at Chelsea Piers Skating Rink on January 24, 2024 for our Skating Party! This time-honored tradition gathers families together for an evening of skating, hotcocoa, and funeverywinter.

Spring Fair

On May 18, 2024, Lycée families enjoyed an Olympics-themed Spring Fair to celebrate our unique international community and its diverse array of cultures, cuisines, crafts, and athletic champions. With 21countrybooths,30activitiesandclasses,and 27 food hall stands, families had the opportunity to learnaboutandpartakeintheamazingdiversityofthe Lycée’scommunity.

Countlessvolunteersmadethedayajoyfulexperience for all. We are especially grateful to Spring Fair co-chairs Soraya Victory, Nicole Wallace-Ardiet, and Nadine Haidar for their incredible dedication and care in making this event happen.

Our parents are active as individuals in their children’s lives and also through the Lycée Parent Association (APL). All parents are members of the APL, whose mission is to facilitate communication and understanding between the Lycée and the parents. An influential voice at the Lycée, the APL works closely with the school’s administration, faculty, staff, and the Board. Well-structured and active, it offers many opportunities for parents to volunteer their time and play an important role in community life.

We would like to thank this year’s APL Executive committee for their continued support.
