Patch Testing Made Easy!

Leyton House Professional proudly supports the Colour Me Safe method of Allergy Alert Testing, helping salons navigate the logistics involved with offering every client a test before a colour service.

The platform offers an easy-to-use patch-testing system for clients and salons. Users upload their test results to the Colour Me Safe software, allowing hairdresser professionals to verify that a patch test has been completed before an appointment.

By combining this with clients uploading their results to the free digital platform provided by Colour Me Safe, professionals can easily track and meet compliance requirements, ensuring safety and peace of mind for both the salon and their customer.

HOW IT WORKS?

Colour Me Safe’s patch testing system is a two-part solution.

First, it includes an allergy alert test kit, a packaging solution designed to enable hairdressers to accurately and reliably measure the amount of Leyton House hair colour product to cover the necessary skin area for patch testing.

Second, the Colour Me Safe portal allows you to digitally track, record and manage these allergy test results. This integrated approach makes it easy to identify specific allergens, monitor skin reactions, and create a safe experience.

HOW CAN SALONS GET STARTED WITH COLOUR ME SAFE?

It’s easy! Salons can purchase an allergy alert test kit and gain access to the Colour Me Safe portal. Colour Me Safe offers training and support to help seamlessly integrate Colour Me Safe into your salon operations.

CAN CLIENTS TRUST COLOUR ME SAFE FOR THEIR ALLERGY ALERT TESTS?

Absolutely! Colour Me Safe prioritise safety and reliability above all else. The allergy alert testing process adheres to manufacturers’ guidelines, ensuring a more accurate result than the current testing method conducted in salons.

While an allergy alert test is a valuable tool, it does not replace the expertise of a trained dermatologist. However, it provides a convenient and effective way for clients to determine if a specific hair colourant product is suitable for them.

The goal is to empower clients and salons with reliable information to make informed decisions. Colour Me Safe have designed the allergy alert test kits and Colour Me Safe portal with trust and safety in mind, giving both clients and salons peace of mind throughout the testing process.

HOW CAN COLOUR ME SAFE BENEFIT MY SALON OR BEAUTY BUSINESS?

Colour Me Safe provides numerous benefits to salon owners, beauty practitioners, and their clients. By offering a reliable patch testing system, you demonstrate a commitment to safety and well-being, enhancing your

business’s reputation. This also helps you avoid the costs and challenges associated with allergic reactions, such as client discomfort, rescheduling, and potential legal issues.

With the Colour Me Safe portal, you can efficiently record and manage patch test results, ensuring easy access to essential information. All in all, Colour Me Safe empowers your business to deliver safer beauty services, which is not only responsible but also a significant competitive advantage.

HOW TO GET STARTED

After purchasing a box kit for your salon, you can prepare customised skin test kits with the exact product used for your clients appoinment.

FACT or FICTION

DEVELOPER PREDICTION?

Yes, one of the key ingredients in H2O2 (Hydrogen Peroxide) plays a crucial role in hair colour development. It’s the essential oxidising agent, opening the hair cuticle to allow colour molecules to penetrate and develop.

However, what truly sets Leyton House Developers apart are the advanced chemical reactors built into our formulas.

These proprietary technologies are specifically designed to enhance performance, maximise colour longevity, and maintain hair integrity when mixed with colour.

By combining science with superior ingredients, our developers work in harmony with colour formulations to deliver consistent, reliable results while protecting the hair’s health and structure.

Our unique formula also contain conditioning agents and buffers that help to minimise damage, reduce scalp irritation, and ensure an even colour application. So, what does this mean. Well, stylists can achieve bold, brilliant hues while maintaining the natural softness and strength of their clients’ hair.

We understand that knowledge is power. That’s why we’re here to clear up some of the most common misunderstood concepts surrounding peroxide developers in this “Fact or Fiction” article.

Through expert insights and science-backed explanations, we’ll empower you with the truth behind the products you use every day, so you can deliver exceptional results with confidence.

Q. Competitor brand developers work just as well!

FICTION: This has nothing to do with advocating our brand, although an added bonus. Leyton House developers are formulated to work synergistically with Couture Silk colours and 1.5% with Liquid Jewlz demi colour.

You will not obtain the same results using a competitor brand and WILL undoubtedly need to process the hair for longer than the recommended 30 mins.

Only use Leyton House Developers to ensure a highly stable and pH balanced colouring system and maximum coverage and colour durability.

Q: I only use 6% (20vol) to cover grey.

FICTION: You can ABSOLUTELY use 3% (10vol) to obtain optimum grey coverage. Leyton House recommends it, whether for grey coverage or everyday colouring. Leyton House developer technology ensures optimal pigment penetration without unnecessary lift, preserving hair integrity and delivering long-lasting results.

The ONLY instance you would use 6% to cover grey is if the hair is over 70% white or very resistant. If hair is 70% - 100% grey use 3 parts target colour + 1 part Natural, Natural Ash, Extra Natural or PLUS+ Series

Q: I sometimes get warmth coming through during a coverage application.

FACT: Here’s a double whammy! Yes, this can absolutely happen with all brands particularly if a client has base 6 or less (red -red/orange) you may need to use the following the shades.

FACT 1: If you’re using 6%/20vol reduce the strength to 3%/10vol.

FACT 2: Couture Silk Plus Series to remove warmth. Not only possesses double base pigment, but has green-blue pigment to neutralise underlying reds and orange.

EUREKA - Green removes RED + Blue removes ORANGE.

FACT 3: Mix a 1/4 (25%) cool tone to the base colour. E.g. 66.0/66N + .021, .1, .11 or .18 series each will eliminate warmth.

FACT 4: 6%/20 vol does LIFT up to 1-2 levels.

One educational article written by Mags, is a stand out for us and one that always comes up in conversation on forums with any brand, and that’s ‘I get warmth and what do I do to counteract that’ - 99.9% of the times it has nothing to do with the colour but;

1. Understanding the colour wheel 2. Understanding underlying pigment

RUSTIC

If you asked Kim about her greatest passions in life, the answer is unmistakable, her deep love for her family, her horses, and her unique rustic-glamour ranch-style salon The Branding Iron Salon located in picturesque USA state Oregon.

We had the opportunity to interview Kim and learn about her industry journey, what influences her as an artist and being salon owner.

Can you tell us about your hairdressing journey.

Upon graduating in 2007, in the early years, I gained hands-on experience by renting a station, a common stepping stone for many stylists. These years proved invaluable, providing insight into the business side of hairdressing while refining my skills.

My ambition to establish a distinct brand and create a unique salon experience never waned and in 2018, that dream became a reality with the successful opening of Branding Iron Salon.

What have been your challenge/s throughout your career and how have you overcome them.

One of the most significant challenges I’ve encountered is my own self-doubt. I have a tendency to be overly self-critical.

Ultimately, I believe it has made me a more skilled stylist, but the mental strain of being a hairdresser is not often discussed. It took me many years to do this, I now recognise the importance of self-care and setting boundaries, allowing me to have a healthy home/work balance is key to success.

What does success mean to you personally and how do you measure it in your career.

From my personal perspective, success can be measured in multiple ways. I define success by achieving and establishing realistic goals.

I avoid unhealthy comparisons with others and focusing on my individual progression, which I believe has been the key. The ability to challenge oneself, and consistently evolve as a stylist is what truly defines my success.

What is your ultimate goal in your career and how are you going to reach it.

My ultimate dream is to establish a salon that becomes a hub for creativity and growth. I want to be able to give back by mentoring aspiring stylists, sharing my experiences, knowledge, and insights

with the next generation serving as a catalyst for their success and fostering a thriving community of passionate professionals.

In your salon how do you create an environment that balances structure with the freedom for your team to be creative

Fostering a balanced salon environment is crucial. My goal is to provide my stylists with a work environment that is both fun and professional where stylists can thrive.

Blending a trendy, modern aesthetic with a welcoming atmosphere, and cultivating a community of talented artists that share my goals and aspirations ensuring long term successful careers.

How important is it to you that Leyton House doesn’t supply to the e-tailer market place – Amazon, Walmart.

Product exclusivity plays a critical role in maintaining brand integrity in the beauty industry. In my opinon Leyton House’s decision to refrain from supplying to e-tailers such as Amazon and Walmart is commendable. By restricting product availability to professional distributors, Leyton House preserves the value and quality of their products.

If you could spend the day with anyone who would it be and why?

If I could choose to spend the day with anyone, Michelle Zeller would be my top choice. As a highly accomplished artist, she has developed a distinctive brand that is truly unparalleled. I am drawn to her unique style and believe that spending time with her would be a highly enriching experience.

Whats your favourite Leyton House product/ collection and why?

I experiment with various products, Leyton House has consistently been my preferred choice. Selecting a favorite is challenging, but if I must choose, I would say their new Liquid Jewlz glosses are unparalleled. Despite being demi, they are remarkably long-lasting and reliable.

Kristína Zelovičová’s journey into the world of hairdressing is a testament to her adaptability, passion, and determination. Starting out as a makeup artist, Kristína always had a natural flair for beauty and aesthetics.

Her talent for styling hair and makeup quickly caught the attention of her clients, who began requesting dedicated hairdressing services. This inspired her to take the leap and embark on a new chapter in her career.

Professional stood out for its ability to deliver vibrant, long-lasting red and copper shades; a rarity in the market she believes.

Kristína values Leyton House brand not only for its results but its gentle formulation, which leaves hair with unmatched shine and a gradual, beautiful fade. One of her favorite products is Rhassoul 6-in-1 , a versatile treatment that reflects her to quality to her clients.

Think Big MAKE 2025 YOUR YEAR

SCULPT YOUR CAREER

You hold the scissors, not just in your hands but in your life. The power to transform your career from “meh” to magnificent starts with you. Your mindset, your vision, and your willingness to take steps forward.

Everyone starts somewhere, I started out picking and packing for another brand, then progressed to a desk under the stairs, literally. I told the CEO he was wasting money outsourcing marketing consultants and graphic designers. I could learn the job and do it better. BIG RISK back then.

Today I’m so proud of where i am - director or global cosmetics company, yes its taken 20+ years, but here we are!

Success doesn’t just happen; it’s a series of deliberate choices and mental shifts that stack up over time; it’s the drive to grow, adapt, and elevate our craft.

Embracing the mindsets that fuel your growth.

Choose to see setbacks as stepping stones, your value as priceless, and challenges as opportunities in disguise. Start showing up not just as a stylist but as the CEO of your career. Invest in your vision, nurture your relationships, and never stop learning. Take ownership of it, infuse it with your unique flair, and watch as every change you make take on a transformation ripple effect.

Whether you’re dreaming of building a loyal clientele, opening your own salon, or becoming a trendsetter in the industry, the first step is simple: believe that you can do it.

Now, go ahead pick up those metaphorical scissors and start shaping the career of your dreams. Because the only thing standing between “meh” and magnificent is you.

GROWING PAINS

Career growing pains can feel a lot like a bad haircut; awkward, uncomfortable, and something you wish you could fast-forward. But career struggles are where real growth happens. Here’s how to make the most of them:

1. Embrace the “Cringe-worthy” Moments

Nobody likes making mistakes, but those moments are goldmines for growth. Instead of beating yourself up, ask yourself: How can I do better next time? The pain becomes productive when you turn it into a lesson.

2. Keep a Growth Journal

Write down what went sideways and what you learned from it. A year later, you’ll flip through it and think, Wow, I used to stress about that? It’s oddly satisfying to track how much you’ve leveled up.

3. Seek Feedback, Not Validation

Feedback isn’t about proving you’re perfect; it’s about finding ways to improve. Whether it’s from clients, co-workers, or mentors, embrace constructive criticism as a road map to getting better.

4. Focus on Progress

Nobody’s going to be an overnight master. Celebrate the wins along the way; whether it’s nailing a tricky colour correction or finally pacifying an unsatisfied customer. You ended up with a happy client and great hair.

5. Remember, It’s All Part of the Process

The biggest success stories in the industry come from people who learned the most from their struggles. Every challenge you face now becomes a story you’ll tell later. A funny, inspiring, and humbling reminder of how far you’ve come.

6. Got a slow day? Use it to film that reel you’ve been putting off. Difficult client?

Think of it as free training in problem-solving. The most successful stylists don’t wait for opportunity; they create it.

Nikki Corzine, owner of The Canyon Salon, says it best: “The difference between good and great in our industry often comes down to mindset. When you train yourself to see opportunities instead of obstacles, everything changes.”

7. Plan Ahead

Planning long-term, investing in your education, and treating your chair like a business—not just a cozy spot to gossip. Map out a 12-month

vision for your career and break it into quarterly goals. Suddenly, you’re not just winging it, you’re winning it.

8. Make a Difference

Send your client a follow-up text to check on their new cut? These little acts of connection can lead to big boosts in loyalty. Start small in making a difference and build that connection and network.

Here’s the bottom line: success in this industry isn’t just about perfect layers or flawless foils. It’s about cultivating mindsets that fuel growth, confidence, and connection.

Remember, your mindset is like your signature colour; it needs regular refinement, care, and a little creative flair to make it shine.
