About LexFUN!

A Vibrant Community of Parents with Young Children

Lexington’s Five and Under Network (LexFUN!) is a diverse community of families with young children, serving Lexington and the surrounding area. Founded in 1942, LexFUN! is one of the largest volunteer-run parent organizations in Massachusetts, providing social, educational and community events and activities. It is a non-profit organization and a recognized member of the Massachusetts Parent Teachers Association. LexFUN! also maintains its own charitable endowment, the LexFUND!, supporting local families with emergency funds, granting preschool scholarships and funding other community initiatives.

100% volunteer-driven, everything offered is due to the incredible parents who dedicate their time and energy to our events, initiatives and programs. LexFUN! is incredibly grateful to our generous sponsors and community partners, who enable us to continue the long-running efforts of connecting families with young children, while building a foundation for parents in our community.

LexFUN!’s Annual Consignment Sale

Every spring, LexFUN! holds its Consignment Sale to raise money for the LexFUND! community endowment. These funds are used to support the local community with preschool scholarships, emergency funds in times of crisis, and grants for other community partners.

Penguin Coding School

Penguin Coding School offers coding classes for elementary, middle and high school students. The combination of their online coding platform with real-time experienced teachers gets students motivated to create their own projects, games during the one to two-hour lesson. Waldorf School of Lexington

Waldorf School of Lexington (WSL) serves students from preschool and campus, adjacent to the 185-acre Great Meadows conservation land. Meet Friends - Family Events and Parent Events

Fall Extravaganza

The Fall Extravaganza helps kick-off a fun-filled year with LexFUN! This year’s event will feature apple cider donuts, entertainment and a chance to meet with local sponsors and preschools. Kids are welcome to attend in their costume and participate in our annual Halloween Parade! This event is free and open to all.

Playground Drop-in/Fridays @ Lincoln

Join local families every Friday morning outdoors at Lincoln Playground. Come and leave when you want and have fun socializing with other caregivers and young toddlers. Lincoln Playground is enclosed and has a bathroom and changing facilities. During winter months, this event moves indoors to the Hayden Gym. Lincoln Playground, 100 Lincoln St, Lexington MA 02420.

WinterFUN! Crafts with the Munroe Center

In partnership with the Munroe Center for the Arts, in Lexington. This winter season keep an eye out for our WinterFUN! Crafts events which allow children to tap into their creativity and express themselves through art. Munroe Center for the Arts, 1403 Mass. Ave. Lexington.

Moms’ Night Out/Parents’ Night Out Monthly events where members can meet and mingle with their littles and without. Activities include Toddler Waddle Hikes, Winter/SummerFUN!, Family Movie Morning, and, just for the grown-ups, Moms’ Nights Out, Parents Date Night, and more!

Puppet Show Family-friendly production presented by Tanglewood Marionettes

Kindergarten Connection This program will ensure that you and your preschooler are kindergarten ready. Chat with current kindergarten parents at your elementary school, get the answers to your specific questions, and learn tips and tricks for a smoother transition. Your preschooler will even get to meet new classmates at school playground meetups before school starts! This program is open to all Lexington residents, in partnership with the Lexington Public Schools.

Farm Friends at LexFARM for 2-3 Year Olds

A 6-week series held multiple times throughout the year where caregivers and young children (ages 2-3 years) explore and play. Each day has a theme and guided hands-on activity, which can include circle-time songs, planting seeds, water, harvesting veggies, and visiting with chickens, goats, sheep and alpacas! While this event is for young children, Lexington Community Farm has programs for children ages 2-5 years old, 4-6 years old, 6-10 years old, 5-10 years old, 7-12 years old, as well as programs in Spanish and programs for adults. Outdoor Recreation in Lexington

Almost 1,300 of Lexington’s 10,000 acres are deemed Conservation Land. Fifty miles of walking trails cross these wetlands, fields and forests offer many opportunities for picnicking, nature study, sledding, and cross country skiing.

Trail Walking and Picnicking

ACROSS Lexington

A network of marked trails and paths for walkers, runners and trail bikers. The routes use existing public ways to connect the town center with various historic sites, schools and conservation areas. Residents and visitors will gain enjoyment and fitness as they travel around town without a car.

Battle Road Trail

This trail starts at Wood St. and Old Mass. Ave. in Lexington and ends in Concord, providing pedestrian, stroller, handicapped and bicycle access through farmland, natural landscapes and wetlands. The path is part of the Minuteman National Historic Park. Parking lots exist along the trail for those who do not wish to cover the entire 5.5 mile distance.

Belfry Hill

This is a quick, pleasant hike, but not stroller-friendly. From Cary Library, cross Clarke St. and leave the town’s bustle behind as you climb stone stairs to the top of Belfry Hill. Atop this hill stands a replica of the Belfry whose tolling once warned Minutemen of the Redcoats’ arrival. Stop and see the battle panorama at the Visitor’s Center across the road.

Chiesa Farm

One of Lexington’s most scenic properties, 23 acres of conservation land, a mile of trails, with an open rolling field visible along Adams St. Access is from Sedge Rd., near Diamond Middle School, and from Adams St. across from Fiske Elementary School.

Great Meadow

After some playtime at Adams Playground (Mass. Ave. and Pleasant St.) by the Waldorf School, cross over the Minuteman bike path to Great Meadow. There are some wonderful hills, boardwalks, and trails for hiking, cross country skiing, and nature walking. In the summer, keep your eyes open for blueberries.

Hastings Park

Located on Lincoln St., opposite the Hayden Recreation Centre. In July and August, band concerts are held in the gazebo on Tuesday evenings at 7:15 p.m. Visit www.lexingtonchamber.org/events for more information. This is also a popular sledding spot.

Built alo ong. It begins n n and Lexingto lking (with and without strollers), cycling, rollerblading and even cross-country skiing in the winter. Please note that it can get congested on weekends and that no motorized vehicles (like scooters) are allowed.

Paint Mine

Forty-eight acres, 2.3 miles of trails, Paint Mine hosts its namesake feature: a natural ochre pigment historically utilized to manufacture paint. Boston Edison's powerline right-of-way makes up a large portion of this property, but the majority of the area consists of woodland with vegetation that is more characteristic of northern New England. Access trails are from Grove St., Turning Mill Road, Estabrook School's parking area, and Robinson Road.

Parker Meadow

There is a mile of trails near Lexington Center with access to the Minuteman Bikeway. It features a picturesque pond with an open meadow and woodland. Access the area from Minuteman Bikeway, Hancock St., and Revere St. There is a small parking pull-off area on Revere St. that is just east of the bikeway.

Tower Park

Located on Mass. Ave., across from the Scottish Rite Masonic Museum and Library. Adjacent to the bike path, Tower Park is also a steep sledding hill.

West Farm

Enter on Oak St. The hillside is not only great for sledding, but presents a beautiful view of Wilson Farm and the surrounding area. Don’t forget to visit the cows at the pasture and shed nearby.

Whipple Hill

Enter at Winchester Dr. at the Winchester town line. Providing the highest point in Lexington, the summit offers beautiful vistas of the surrounding countryside. Hike on some of the many trails or enjoy ice skating, fishing, and nature study at Locke Pond.

Willard’s Woods

This 100-acre area is one of the loveliest in town. There is a parking lot on North St., off of Adams St., and from there follow the various dirt paths. Diversions for preschoolers include looking for frogs at the pond and watching for snakes and chipmunks along the old stone wall. Or, leave the stroller under a tree and loop through the woods past the ten-foot boulder, and the vernal pool’s muddy residue to the meadow. Note, it is also a favorite place to walk dogs.

Worthen Road to Bridge School

Park at the Center Playground or along Worthen Rd. across from the High School playing fields. The conservation lands south of Worthen Rd. are accessed by two paths, navigable by stroller and tricycle. The western entrance is the start of a Fitness Path, with a boardwalk over wetlands marked by self-directed exercise stations. The second entrance is further east on Worthen Rd. and features a paved bike path. Take the path to its end, past Lincoln Park Fields and across Middleby Road. From here the bike path winds through the woods to Bridge School and the Old Reservoir (Old Res).

Lexington Community Farm is a seven-acre working farm owned by the Town of Lexington and run by an independent member-supported non-profit organization (LexFarm). LexFarm grows organic produce, runs educational programs for children of all ages and adults in the spring, summer and fall, and has a food access program that supports local food pantries.

Vegetables and flowers are grown for CSA shareholders and are available for purchase at their farm stand, open during the farming season. Organic eggs, cheeses, milk, meats, and pantry items are also available in the farm stand. Revenues from the farm stand support their educational program.

Our “natural” playground features a hill with a built-in slide, a 4 surface trike path, and so much more! Program/Philosophy: Lexington Playcare Center offers children an unhurried, nurturing, yet exciting environment rich with possibilities. The teachers create units based on the interests of the group and they may include such topics as insects, space and endangered animals. There are ample opportunities for children to develop pro social behaviors, problem solving skills and friendships! Our highly experienced and caring teaching staff guide children through a structured yet flexible day with a strong focus on active learning. The result - happy, happy kids!

Program/Philosophy: MWS is an inclusive and non-sectarian play-based early education program. MWS aims to stimulate each individual’s physical, cognitive and socio-emotional development through hands-on experiences in a cheerful and caring atmosphere that values discovery, problem-solving and building a positive self-image.

Enrollment Process: Interested families may call the school for an informational tour at any time. Application forms, when available for the desired school year, are given at the tour and families are encouraged to return the completed form within 2 weeks. The returned application and fee hold a space for the child while families complete the Enrollment Agreement to be returned with the Holding Fee (tuition deposit).

Parent Participation: Parent Teaching Assistant (gives tuition credit); Active Parent Committee fosters parent involvement.

Special Activities: Music and specialists within the regular curriculum. Afternoon Enrichment series open to Pre-K (nature, music, STEM, and discovery). Back to School Night (for families), All-School Interactive Art Show, Pancake Breakfast and Silent Auction in early spring, and Family Picnic in June. Class Information: Approximate Ratio teachers to students is 1:7. We have two classes for children ages 2.9-3 and 4-5.

Facilities: NCS recently moved to a beautiful building on a private lot of 4.5 acres of land, conveniently situated near Bina Farm Center, Lexington Center & Route 2. All points of entry are locked & monitored by our Admin, Facilities & Security Manager using state-of-the-art surveillance cameras, to ensure building security & student safety. The building houses our Preschool and Elementary (K-5) programs. The Preschool has a separate wing with two spacious classrooms and easy access to restrooms and the outdoor playground space. Our Preschool classrooms are vibrant and inviting environments for learning. The rooms are thoughtfully divided into zones for hands-on learning, clean surfaces for snack/lunch and calming rest areas. Outside, we have a fenced in playground which includes an extra-large sandbox, a playground structure & space to run around. During inclement weather, we have a large indoor space for recess.

Program/Philosophy: It is our mission to serve families within our community by providing a quality early childhood education program grounded in godly wisdom and love.
