Saluting our Military Families!

A month dedicated to honoring all those who served and to the family members who supported those service members.

On November 11th, our nation recognizes the service and dedication of military veterans on Veterans Day. Originally called Armistice Day, after the armistice signed by the allies and Germany that signaled the end of World War I, the name was changed in 1954 to include veterans from all wars, both living and deceased.

The month of November is also about celebrating military families. Originally a single day holiday, in 1996, the Armed Services succeeded in expanding November into a month-long observance of “Military Families Month” via presidential approval. Every year since, the government has declared the month as a National observance through a signed proclamation and it is a wonderful opportunity to recognize both your dedication and service to our country.

Liberty Military Housing would like to thank all of our military families for your steadfast support as you have faced the special challenges of long deployments, family separations, and frequent relocations with great courage and resolve. Your selfless dedication, which has directly contributed to the mission readiness of our service members, is a source of inspiration and deep gratitude.

Do you have a needed repair, a suggestion, or a concern? LMH is committed to enriching the lives of military families through providing homes and vibrant communities. Your feedback is an important piece in helping us accomplish this goal, and we want to ensure we provide you with an avenue to initially address your needed repair, suggestion, or concern and the process to escalate it, should that be necessary. Below is an outline of our easy Three-Step process for concerns and opportunities for feedback.

Our goal is to provide exemplary service at every possible opportunity. To best serve you, we ask you keep the following in mind.

Points to remember: Make sure all interior doors are unlocked.

Ensure all pets are secure.

Remember, we are unable to enter the home if minors are home alone.

If you’ve given our team PTE, our goal is to respond to your request as quickly as possible.

Without PTE, your service request might be delayed.

Requesting an appointment means you’ll receive a call from our team to confirm a day and time that you can expect us.

If we happen to miss you, we’ll leave a door hanger letting you know the best way to reach us.

We know that authorizing PTE might raise some questions. We’re here to listen and talk through this decision with you. We’re always here to help however we can.

Qualifications for requesting a home transfer If requesting a transfer from your current JBLM home, residents must meet all of the following criteria: Resident ledger account must be in current standing.

No outstanding violation notices.

Must have outranked current neighborhood or change in family composition/size.

Must pass a pre-inspection of current home.

Current lease must be expired or expired before transfer date.

Complete a new application.

Pay a $500 transfer deposit in advance via cashiers check or money order.

Transfer requests may be denied due to excessive damage, unsanitary conditions, neglect of the home and/or multiple notices for non-compliance; regardless of eligibility.

Pest Control

Liberty Military Housing provides pest control services with licensed and bonded pest control companies to perform all interior and exterior pest treatments for your home.

Important Notes: For interior treatments, we might ask that you and your animals vacate the premises while the work is being performed.

Depending on the treatment, we might ask that you remove all contents from cabinets and drawers.

It is important that you follow all guidance from the pest control company. This might include lifestyle changes like not leaving out pet food, cleaning pet feces in the yard area.

Pest control doesn’t have to be overwhelming or complicated. If you have questions, we’re here to help you get the answers you need.

Halloween Decor Removal Reminder

Reminder to Renew Your Renters Insurance!

All residents are required to either maintain renters insurance with a minimum personal liability limit of $100,000, or pay a monthly fee.

Halloween decorations must be removed by Nov 10th.

To satisfy your lease, there are three options you can choose from:

Halloween decorations consist of Jack o’ lanterns (carved pumpkins), skeletons, ghosts, spider webs, spooky décor, witches, scary cats and all related type blow up characters.

Third Party Policy

You may choose to go with a third-party provider but must submit proof of insurance at Resident Shield or with your assigned district office.

Liability Program

For just an $8 a month, plus a $2.08 administrative fee, the Resident Shield program will meet the $100,000 liability insurance requirement in your lease.

Please note this policy would only meet the minimum requirement for liability insurance and would not protect your personal property.

A Word From Our West Army Partners No Waste November

This No Waste November, focus on small changes with a lasting effect. The term “No Waste” may seem intimidating, but practice these tips to get started.

Reducing waste can be as simple as swapping out single-use items. Reusable bags, reusable utensils, cloth rags instead of paper towels or napkins, stainless steel or glass water bottles, and reusable coffee mugs are all swaps that have little to no change in convenience. Also, wash dishes instead of using paper plates, use reusable silicone bags or containers, and try wool dryer balls instead of dryer sheets.

Picking just a few of these items can contribute to reducing waste.

Reducing food waste is another great way to reduce general waste. Make more frequent grocery store stops to avoid food going bad. Also, freeze, freeze, freeze! Most food items can be frozen with little to no change in quality.

Freeze fully prepped leftovers and individually prepped food to avoid them going bad in the fridge or pantry. Portion and freeze meat, cheese, bread, and butter. Freeze fruits like lemons, limes, avocados, and tomatoes, but use them only in recipes as they can lose their structural integrity. Clean, chop, and freeze onions, garlic, and peppers and place them in reusable containers, then easily add to recipes when needed. Save leafy greens from wilting sliminess by blending them with yogurt and freezing them to make smoothie cubes. Freezing food helps extend its life and reduces food waste.

Clothing is another huge source of waste, and minimizing individual consumption can help. Buy only what you need, and buy second-hand clothes if possible. Try fixing broken buttons, zippers, and small tears to give clothes a new life. Turn old clothes new by cutting or dying them. When getting rid of clothes, donate them to local thrift shops or sell them. Joint Base Lewis McChord has two thrift shops: the Fort Lewis Thrift Shop and the McChord Thrift Shop. Reduce clothing waste by implementing a few of these changes.

Swapping out single-use items, reducing food waste, and cutting back on clothing consumption help contribute to less waste. No Waste November doesn’t mean being perfect, but making small changes can make a lasting difference.
