JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER
MAY 2025

On May 10th, the nation will honor and salute military spouses for their dedication to keeping our country safe. Military spouses are our unsung heroes and are the backbone of the family through readiness, deployments, and reintegration. The history of Military Spouse Appreciation Day started with President Ronald Reagan when he signed a Proclamation in 1984 to pay tribute to all military spouses. Military Spouse Appreciation Day is now a part of National Military Appreciation Month in May!
Liberty Military Housing would like to say “thank you” to all our military spouses for your service, commitment, sacrifices, and most importantly your contribution to your family and this nation.
Military Spouses stand tall and stand proud. Liberty salutes you!

You ask, we answer!
Below are a few commonly asked questions from our residents that you may have been wondering about too.
1. How do I submit a work order?
All maintenance work orders can be submitted one of two ways: Submit a request or check the status of a request at any time with the Liberty at Your Service App You can call our hotline Liberty at Your Service 24/7 at 1-888-578-4141.
2. Why are resident event locations not posted on public platforms such as Facebook?
Due to OpSec and being on a secure military base, we do not post location details of our resident events on public platforms for the safety of our residents. If we posted location details, we risk anyone on public platforms knowing where all of our residents are gathered at a particular time. Instead, we utilize, Community Rewards which is a secure third-party platform where residents will get notified of upcoming resident event details and locations, community updates, can earn cash rewards and get access to community discounts
3. I am PCSing soon, who do I contact about the move-out process and what do I need to do?
When you receive orders, reach out to your designated district office to notify them You will receive a notice to vacate form to fill out as well as a move-out checklist You will then be scheduled for a move-out inspection
4. I am leaving my home for vacation. What do I need to do?
When leaving your home for an extended period of time (more than two weeks), please contact your district office to notify them and fill out a Vacation and Extended Absence Form. This is to ensure the safety of your home if anything were to happen during your absence or if anyone has permission to enter your home.
5. Where is the self-help warehouse located and what can I get from there for free?
We have two self-help warehouses located on both Lewis North and McChord. Lewis North self-help warehouse is located at 7910 Plant Road. A WORD FROM OUR WEST ARMY PARTNERS
Protecting JBLM’s Water Starts at Home: Simple Steps for a Cleaner Community
By: James McEwan DPW Environmental Division, AGEISS
Did you know that the water running off your driveway, yard, and sidewalks at JBLM does not get treated before it enters local waterways? That’s right rain and snowmelt pick up everything in their path, from oil and soap to lawn chemicals and pet waste, carrying it straight into our streams, lakes, and groundwater.
Stormwater pollution might seem like a big problem, but the good news is that small changes in our daily habits can make a huge difference Whether you’ve lived in Liberty Military Housing for years or just moved in, here are a few simple ways to help keep JBLM’s water clean
1. Watch What Goes Down the Drain
Storm drains aren’t trash cans! Anything poured into them paint, motor oil, yard clippings, or even soapy water from car washing flows directly into our natural water sources Always dispose of chemicals properly and use JBLM’s designated waste collection sites for hazardous materials
2. Be Smart About Lawn Care
A green lawn is great, but over-fertilizing or using the wrong chemicals can wash harmful substances into JBLM’s waterways To protect the environment:
Only fertilize in early spring or fall, never before a heavy rain
Sweep up grass clippings instead of letting them wash into the street
Consider using organic fertilizers and drought-resistant plants to reduce runoff
Check the Liberty Housing move-in packet for more information on lawncare (https://issuucom/lewismcchordcommunities/docs/move in packet resource without welcome page)
3. Pick Up After Your Pets
It might not seem like a big deal, but pet waste left on the ground gets carried into storm drains when it rains, polluting JBLM’s water with harmful bacteria Always bag it and toss it in the trash your neighbors (and the local wildlife) will thank you!
4. Keep Spills in Check
Leaks from cars, lawnmowers, and household chemicals add up fast If you notice a leak, fix it quickly and use absorbent materials like kitty litter or sand to soak up spills instead of hosing them down the driveway
5. Wash Cars the Right Way
Washing your car in the driveway sends dirt, soap, and grease straight into storm drains Instead, use JBLM’s car wash facilities, which are designed to handle runoff properly Please remember that washing cars in your driveway is not allowed on JBLM
A Cleaner JBLM Starts with You
Stormwater pollution isn’t just a problem for the environment It can also affect drinking water, local wildlife, and even our health By making small, simple changes at home, every JBLM resident can help keep our base clean and our waterways safe
If you have questions or comments, send them to usarmyjblmid-readinesslistdpw-stormwater@armymil Let’s work together to keep JBLM a great place to live!
