The dean of our division, Tom Monroe, was recently honored with the Joan Simon Lifetime Achievement Award by his peers of the Illinois Community College Board workforce development committee, weTRaIN. The award is not conferred annually, rather awarded to those outstanding individuals whose careers in community college workforce development are distinguished. We wanted you to know that because of what it offers your businesses. During Mr. Monroe’s tenure, this department enrolled the largest number of workforce training participants ever in the Illinois community college system. These numbers translate into top caliber instructors and a best-in-class educational curriculum for your selection in business, industry and safety training programs.

In this catalog you will see a broad array of programs to choose from: • Training workshops on supervisory, management, team building, and computer skills. • Enormous libraries of online business and technical courses for professionals to take 24/7 as needed. • Custom classes that we can provide for your work group, at your location or ours, exactly when you need them. Focused on the professional, corporate and workplace programs that can increase business skills, enhance supervisory techniques, or help anyone be safer on the job, this catalog does not show the family and personal enrichment classes and workshops also offered by our department. We still have a complete array of those in a separate catalog mailed to households, rather than businesses like yours. To see them, look for the online, searchable version at the bottom of our website at www.lc.edu/CCL. Click on the catalog view that is titled “Community Learning.” The goal in offering two separate catalogs is to enable you to quickly and easily find what you seek. Please let us know your thoughts about this with comments on Facebook!

Emotionally Intelligent Manager in the Workplace

Your customers, your employees, and your bosses watch you in action every day: What are your emotions telling them? How does your emotional maturity, or lack of it, impact productivity and profit for your company, shop or agency? Do you know that 75% of career derailments are caused by lapses in emotional competence rather than technical skill gaps, lack of business acumen or lack of experience? In this action–oriented class, you will confidentially self–test your personal Emotional Quotient, learn tips for increasing your competence in each of the five areas leading to high Emotional Intelligence, and work through typical cases encountered by managers everywhere so that you can immediately begin to apply “High E.I.” in your workplace. Green Building 2012 International Energy Conservation Code Applications for Illinois

Photovoltaic Design & Installation

This building energy code training session will cover on-the-job applications of the 2012 International Energy Conservation Code including critical concepts for code officials, design professionals, and construction trades. Code changes will affect residential and commercial buildings in a variety of ways. This 32–hour course provides an introduction to the basic principles of photovoltaic (solar) design, installation guidelines, and safety issues involved with photovoltaic power systems. Student technicians will learn the basics of sizing a residential battery–less grid–tied system, wire sizing, over–current protection and grounding, and review fundamental design criteria for off–grid stand–alone systems including specifying batteries, controllers, and battery–based inverters. Learners will develop a basic understanding of the core concepts necessary to work with both residential and commercial PV systems. This workshop is designed for individuals seeking employment within the growing solar industry, for homeowners wanting to install systems on their own homes, or anyone interested in learning more about this emerging technology.
