SHORTSTAY GUIDE

FordecadesLewestonSchoolhaswelcomedinternationalpupilsforshortstayvisitsgivingthemthe opportunitytodeveloptheirlevelofEnglishaswellasexperiencelifeinourbusyandvibrant boardingschool.

Pupilscanchoosefromdifferentshortstayprogrammesrangingfromhalfatermtosixmonthsor evenawholeyear.Pupilsaresupportedthroughouttheirstayensuringthattheyintegratequickly andmaximisetheimpactoftheirtimewithus.

Shortstaypupilsbecomepartofourfriendlyschoolcommunity,manyreturnforthesameperiod everyyearandwelookforwardtoseeingthemonanannualbasis.

HALF A TERM (Approximately five weeks)

Theshortestlengthoftimeavailable,pupilsjoin forhalfaterm(approximatelyfiveweeks)ideally atthestartofaterm Whilstavailablethroughout theyear,halftermvisitsaremostpopularinthe summerterm.InYear11ahalftermstayisonly availableintheAutumnTerm.Ifjoininginthe secondhalfoftheSummerTerm,pupils participateintheannualActivitiesWeekwhich includesteambuilding,self-developmentand culturalactivities.Thismayinvolveadditionalcost duetotripsoutofschool

PRE-A LEVEL PROGRAMME

ThePre-ALevelProgrammeisaoneyearbespokecourse forinternationalstudentsinterestedinstudyinginthe UK,immersingthemselvesinBritishcultureandgaining theskillstoprogresstoatopuniversity Designedto preparestudentsacademically,linguisticallyandsocially fortheSixthForm,thecoursecanalsoprovideastandaloneoptionforthosewhowishtospendayearat LewestonwhilstgainingGCSEandEALqualifications. Pupilshave20-30hoursoflessonsperweekwith additionaltimetabledandsupervisedstudyperiods. LessonsaretaughtinEnglishwiththemajorityofclasses takenalongsideUKstudents.Eachstudent’stimetableis designedonarrivalaccordingtoanumberofcriteria including:previousknowledge,aptitude,careerplans, homecountryrequirementsandpersonalpreferences

TheprogrammerunsthroughoutYear11,thesecondhalf ofthetwo-yearGCSEcourseintheUK.International pupilsjoiningatthisstagecannotexpecttotakethefull rangeofsubjectsinhalfthetimesotheprogrammeis designedwithpotentialtotakesomesubjectstoan externalexamination(GCSE)whilstothersarenonexamined StudentswilltypicallytakeGCSEsinMaths andEnglishasaSecondLanguageaswellasoneintheir nativelanguage,theGCSEscienceexammaybeavailable dependingonpreviousexperienceandaptitude.Itmay alsobepossibleforstudentstostudyforLevel1or2 ExtendedProjectQualification(EPQ)duringthesummer term.Inadditiontotheexaminedsubjectspupilscan choosetojoinexistingGCSEclassesinfourother subjectsorjoinaselectionofYear12ALevellessons.
