LewAllen Galleries is pleased to present this showcase of innovated paintings by William Nelson. Nelson’s whimsical oil paintings feature unlikely groupings of Pop Culture icons and well-known fictional characters. By situating Hollywood stars within celebrated comics, Nelson offers an irreverent, contemporary narrative to unpack. The diverse subjects of his playful paintings cross genres, decades, and cultural zeitgeists. With joyful, vibrant cartoon colors juxtaposed with black and white visions from the silver screen, Nelson’s intention is to confront the viewer with convivial yet implausible couplings and provoke a new conversation.
Born in 1961, William Nelson was raised in Florida. Nelson earned an MFA in Computer Art from the School of Visual Arts in New York City, and a BS in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Florida. Nelson is based on Norwich, Connecticut.
