This exhibition presents an introspective visual dialogue of resonances of the soul as meditative spirit. Through the purposeful and complex use of color and form, the works of these two extraordinary artists exist in between states of contemplation and sensation, creating abstract moments in which reflective feelings arise. Booma and Stojak are masters of allusive imagery and mark making, effortlessly expressing the ethereal through the texture of space.
While Booma’s paintings are the result of a careful process that laces together intertwining webs of harmony and tension through washes of veiled color and broad fields of visual texture, Stojak imbues her paintings with ethereal atmospheres and a reductive sense of suggestion of the female figure through use of only the essential.
Booma’s abstract mixed media paintings create gentle realms of visual space
highlighted by deeply resonant forms and marks through a profoundly expressive and highly individualized visual language of exquisite lyricism that is comprised of harmonized painterly gestures and expanses of contemplative colors. The works demonstrate the remarkable facility of this leading figure within contemporary abstraction.
Stojak’s images possess a mesmerizing quality that invites deep reflection and meditation. There is a sense that in the process mysteries will be unfolded through feeling and intuition. Stojak’s paintings have been described as “psychological self-portraits” but they also possess a palpable sense of resonance that is broadly universal. In their expressive painterly captivation and aching emotional charge, they seem to offer and invite both empathy and fellowship.
By exploring the richness of liminal spaces, these two artists zig-zag, unfurl, and float through space in their own distinctive manner, offering the viewer an opportunity to experience moments of impulse, intuition, and mystery. Together, the work of these two artist meet evocatively in a rhythmic space where chaos and equilibrium touch, where tonal fields and recognizable form intersect.
