LES NUITS PHOTOGRAPHIQUES / CALL FOR APPLICATIONS /2013 / Photographic art and the way it is presented are changing. We’re on the lookout for new types of photography and mixed media : stills, moving images and sound tracks. In order to provide a promotional platform to present these new forms of photography, we’ve created Les Nuits Photographiques, a festival dedicated to photo-films (pictures in motion). We use the term “photo-films” (or films-photographiques in French) to encompass all forms of photography that are presented and intended for screen projection, such as: POM, webdoc, slideshows, time lapse, stop motion, hybrid and experimental uses of photography. Our aim is to promote emerging talent, support contemporary creativity and help with the production and presentation of photo-films in all its forms. Les Nuits photographiques will take place the 26, 27, 28 and 29 June 2013 outdoors in the 20th Paris’ district: Le Pavillon Carré de Baudouin’s garden and Saint-Simoniens’ square. CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPATION / WHO ? All amateur or professional photographic artists are invited to apply, regardless of age or nationality WHEN ? The call for applications is open until 15 April 2013. Selected candidates will be notified by mail during May 2013. CRITERIA FOR SELECTION Work will be chosen based on the originality of the artist’s vision and the creativity of their photofilm. The prize is open to all works with no genre limitations. Maximum length : 20 minutes. EACH WORK SELECTED WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR ALL AVAILABLE PRIZES.
THE NUITS PHOTOGRAPHIQUES PRIZE AWARD of 1,500 euros & a Nikon Kit D600 IN PARTNERSHIP with Nikon The festival’s artistic directors will select around thirty photo-films from the complete collection of work submitted for the Les Nuits Photographiques prize. Each of the chosen photo-films will be presented at a projection evening during the 2013 festival. A jury of image professionals will award the Les Nuits Photographiques Prize to one of the selected works. The Nuits Photographiques Prize will be announced and awarded during the final evening of the festival, on 29 June 2013.

*** DISTRIBUTION OF THE WORKS Les Nuits Photographiques will announce the selected and prize-winning artists to the national and international press, as well as to our partners, to give the artists the opportunity to be discovered and featured. Les Nuits Photographiques will promote the selected photo-film for one year, as part of the festival’s on-going programming and partner events in order to publicise the works to a wide audience of amateurs, professionals, creators and presenters.

The work could also be multi-media, including formats beyond photography, such as video or animation‌ OR . A series of coherent images intended to be mounted as a photo-film. Images must be accompanied by a letter of intent, clearly explaining how the images and sounds that accompany them are to be presented. Artists selected in this category will get technical assistance from a professional video editor to create the final version of their photo-film.
II/ COMPLETE THE REGISTRATION FORM for each work presented & PAY THE PARTICIPATION FEE of 15 Euros for each work presented, online via Paypal using the following website : www.en.lesnuitsphotographiques.com/ call-for-applications/ You must include a copy of your Paypal payment confirmation with your application.
III/ MAIL THE COMPLETED APPLICATION, INCLUDING : . The completed registration form, dated and signed, along with a copy of the Paypal payment confirmation. . DVD or USB key* containing : - The video in format .mov / 1920 x 1080 px / APPLE PRO RES 4.2.2. File must be named like this: nameofartist.mov OR - Images in format 1920 x 1080 px in 72 dpi, RGB (black margins if necessary) Each image file name must include the artist’s name and be numbered, like this: nameofartist.01.jpeg.
The images must be accompanied by a letter of intent in Word or PDF format clearly describing the artistic vision, and how the images and accompanying sounds are to be presented. File must be named like this: nameofartist. notes.pdf * Only send your film on a USB key if the file size is too big to send on a DVD. If that is the case, you will need to include a stamped addressed envelope so that we can return your USB key. . A maximum 200-word text in Word format presenting your photo-film. Name the file in this way: nameofartist.presentation.doc . Two images to be used to communicate the festival in JPEG format, 20 x 30 cm in 300dpi. File must be named like this: nameofartist-imagescom.jpeg . A short biography of around 150 characters in Word format. File must be named like this: nameofartist.bio.doc . A letter written and signed by the artist certifying the intellectual property of the work and giving her/his agreement for the selected photo-film to be presented both during the projection evenings and for the non-commercial promotion of the Les Nuits Photographiques festival and partner events.
