PEAK PERSPECTIVES
Dear reader, As you may have noticed or very possibly will notice, we have decided to change our style and do a ‘rebranding’ if you will. We took inspiration from ‘zines’, which are handmade guerilla magazines that stem from the insurgence of punk around the 80's, but have since been transformed into a form of selfexpression and freedom of speech. We decided to make this change as we are, after all, a student led organization and we want to emphasize the importance of creative freedom. In accordance, some of you may be happy to know that this edition is chock full of literature! Enjoy :)

Snow In Mid-April
Walking out into the snow in mid-April caught me off guard. It was really cold, so I wrapped myself up in warm clothes and put on my boots to take some pictures. It felt weird because usually, it's warmer by now, but there I was, surrounded by snow and flowers trying to bloom. It is crazy to think, how one day it was 26 degrees and the sun was shining and the flowers were blooming, and the next day it was -2 degrees and the roads and cars were full of snow. It made me realize that nature can be surprising, throwing us curve balls when we least expect it, reminding us to stay flexible and open to its changes.

Ballokume Recipe
By Maja Luca IB1Ballokume is a traditional dessert that is cooked in Albania for Summer day, a celebration on the 15th of March that marks the end of winter and the beginning of summer

1 kg of sugar (not ground)
1 kg of sifted corn flour
Ingredients:
500 g of fresh butter (according to the advice of the housewives of Elbasan, the butter should be goat's)
8 eggs
Half a cup of coffee with fin water (prepared by putting 2-3 tablespoons of fire ash in a glass of water, which is left for about 30 minutes and then carefully drained)
Preparation:
First, put the sugar and melted butter, which should be lukewarm, into a copper or glass container.
Mix with a wooden spoon for around 40-45 minutes until the mixture becomes creamy.
Then add an egg and continue mixing with a wooden spoon.
Add a second egg and continue mixing with a wooden spoon, repeat this with the third egg and so on.
Continue mixing without interruption while adding the warm water or, in its absence, a little milk.
Add the cornflour by hand gradually, continuing to mix with a wooden spoon until all the flour has been incorporated
Strongly stir with a wooden spoon so that there are no grains and it becomes completely uniform
Work it by hand until the dough no longer flattens when holding it in your hand
Divide the dough into pieces in a round shape
Place them in a pan greased with butter and dusted with cornstarch
Place the balls at a distance from each other as their volume will increase during baking.
Place it in a preheated oven at a temperature of 180-200 degrees
Let it bake for 40 minutes and then cool for 20 minutes on a rack

With GCSEs coming up, the grade 10s have completed all of their coursework Here are some extracts from some of the wonderful creative writing coursework they have produced!
The Echoes of Liberation, Love to Lies
By Mia Stephens, Grade 10I am free. I am liberated. I escaped. He's gone, dead, and lifeless. I stepped into a newfound existence and for once in my life, I was able to live how I want to. No constraints, no person pulling me back from what I wanted to do. I slowly reclaimed the fragments of my identity and found my true self. Our house became mine Only mine Was it really all for me? Everything that was his I now had control of Power was all mine Once a small room that suffocated me became a haven of happiness Shockingly altering my life, was his demise When I first grasped the reality of my fresh start, I became stuck Life without him was a struggle at first as he had always been my brain. He was in control of my head. I didn't know what to do with the absence of his voice making the decisions. Yet, with time, I began to embrace the flow of my own desires and feel a gentle breeze on my morning walks. I was no longer looking out his window for purpose. I was living and breathing in it. My days were not spent watching the minutes go by. Not everyday is a typical "exciting day" however I jump out of bed every morning just thinking about the endless possibilities I can create for myself. My life became a mission to achieve all the things I could never accomplish before....
Mrs Mallard By Katrine Amabile, Grade 10Mrs Mallard, as usual, waited helplessly for her husband’s return from work as she carefully embroidered a pillow. She sat comfortably on a florid verdigris green victorian armchair in a corner of her spacious living room. She looked at her watch and, although it was a few minutes past five, her husband wasn’t home yet. He was late, like always. He was never at home. Never with his wife. The room was dark as the grey clouds poured tears of despair and inhibited the sun to shine. The only light present in the room was the one of a modern and recently-bought carcel lamp, placed on a small and intricately adorned rosewood side table Occasionally, lightning would strike and illuminate the living room, revealing the floral details of the massive axminster carpet, and the fineleycoloured roses and carnations that adorned the walls of the room Surprisingly Louise found comfort in looking at the printed flowers on the walls She had chosen them It was the one thing in the whole house that she had been able to choose herself...

The Ancient Motel By Maya Varga, Grade 7
The look on Eevi's face is of pure disgust. She is sitting in the principal's office, watching the video “It’s your fault, Ms Koski” Mr Kivi blamed
Eevi continues looking at the final image of the video. How did they find out? She was sure she hid it well. “Eevi, I know this isn't who you are” Mr Kivi said with a disappointed hint in his voice
Eevi knows that she isn't the girl that the teachers think she is “But this can’t go unpunished. As a minor you are making the biggest mistake You, as a school representative, should know that having a cigarette in your possession is both against school rules and the law” Mr Kivi goes on and on about how Eevi broke the law.
“Sir I’m sorry, okay! You can’t pretend that you’ve never done something wrong!” Eevi shouted Mr Kivi had a look of shock on his face
BANG! Mr Kivi broke his glass teacup on the table The glass shards scattered all over the room.
“You cannot disrespect me like that! I have done everything I can to keep you in this sch-” Mr Kivi starts before being interrupted. “Why? Why did you try so hard? I know you don't give second chances but then why did you give me hundreds?” Eevi asks with a frustrated voice. “I’m not the ‘good girl’ that everyone thinks I am! You have been pushing me to the edge of a cliff ever since I first met you!” ...
Mountain Goat By Iona Allan, Grade 7
He stumbles through the empty street Blood dribbling down into his gaping mouth. His throat is dry, and his vision blurred. He begins to dissociate, his vision blurring. They’ll find him soon. They'd soon find him if he didn’t find a place to stay And then there it is, in between the grey brick houses all lined up in a row, a single place of safety Like a light in the darkness The words 'inn' printed in large bold letters on the front door. He looks behind him checking for anyone who may have followed him. He pushes the door open, drops his bag and through heavy breaths he mumbles, “room for one please”
An old lady the age of around 50 was running the front desk.
“Oh, my dear, what has happened to you. Oh you poor boy. Why yes of course, your room’s upstairs. let me go put a kettle on”
She was about to turn through the door to the white, lavender scented kitchen
“Maam, how much does this cost, I can't pay any more than 25”
She holds his hands in hers and makes him crouch down to her level.
“My dear for a boy like you, that'll be just enough” His head throbbed and he couldn't concentrate on her words They began to sound like a strange mumble melting into each other like butter on a hot day. But she had a peculiar accent, a British one of sorts but something far stronger underneath. All he knew was that he could stay here in a place they would never look to find him He trudged up the stairs to his room, the kettle whistling in the distance He presses his palms against the table, his knuckles are smeared in blood...
In the middle of nowhere
By Raphaëlle Le Quéré, Grade 7Isabelle Lightwood had run away from her home two days before in the middle of the night to go to the middle of nowhere.
She had run away because her parents wanted her to do medical school like them When she was a child, they had already chosen her path: her passion and what she was meant to do, how many children she was meant to have, what kind of husband she had to have She had left because she couldn't take it anymore
They had never asked her what she wanted to do They would have never accepted that she wanted to be an artist, even though she had always been passionate about how paintbrushes on a canvas was like a dance; how paintings represented the emotions and the feelings of the painters Painting was her passion She wanted to live from it and share it with other people, she wanted to change lives like art had changed hers.
That’s how she got from Glasgow’s big city to Hamilton’s deserted streets: “Welcome to Hamilton” She heard a car honking and started There was a male driver, around 21 years old, making big signs to tell her to move to the side of the road. She slowly moved to the side. ”Not very welcoming” she thought but by the time she had finished this thought the car and the man had disappeared into the fog...
Grade 8 students were asked to come up with a story inspired by a choice of ‘curios’ There were many wonderful pieces produced throughout this assignment Here are two of the highlights
A Dying Piece Of Ceramic
By Chanel LeeI live by the edge of Chicago on the same farm as my uncle’s (formerly) ceramic elephant, who is now walking around with chickens in my backyard. It was brought alive by the butcher next door, with a fresh drop of his chihuahua’s blood. Everyone felt like it seemed very real and alive, although it was smaller than the local hen’s baby chicks The elephant gained fame at first sight, and my uncle made a great fortune; as it was a rare specimen of glossy white, detailed with flowers of red, blue and yellow added to sap green leaves and hints of gold
One night, when I went to close my windows before s onto the chicken coop’s rooftop, while tears of depression thought that no one was interested in him anymore B sunrise, it was amazing until I saw the most shocking thin shed I quickly woke up the whole house, desperate to searched all our fields At midday, we all met by the pond water, and the frogs jump from leaves to flowers.
Everyone agreed that it just wasn’t possible for it to run so far. While I was there sitting by the side of our pond, al “Don’t any of you find it so bizarre that the slope going d chicken house is gone too? And why does the pond seem p it then realised, this is where our chickens were, all the slope was filled with the elephant’s tears e bottom. My uncle dived down immediately, desperate to have nd swam back above, hoping we could save him, but when we let to its original form: a pile of rusting clay and paint.

The

In the heart of an enchanting forest, an old lady, with silver and wavy hair cascading like a waterfall around her shoulders, lived in an old house that stood proudly bearing the weight of thousands of years Despite the wrinkles drawn on her face, she still had that warm smile that attracted every animal around there
Her house was so old that it had already blended into the forest floor The dark wood of the house was full of moss and exotic, flourishing plants that covered it completely making it unrecognisable from the outside. A wave of pines surrounded the antique house. A cobblestone path, worn smooth by the footsteps of generations, led to the creaking front door. When you went into the historic home, the wooden creaking floor with imperfections made you realise the actual age of the house Sunlight filtered through the handmade curtains, creating a glow that made you feel comfortable and cosy The walls were decorated with old carved figures that told a story to whoever looked at them. Every corner of the room is a gallery of homemade crafts that were meticulously carved to the point that it looked real.
Birds had vivid colours and tweeted at the same time making a melodious harmony that echoed everywhere The sun’s rays filtered through the trees, illuminating the area On the floor, the gentle breeze, that carried a scent of pine, stroked the leaves making them rustle and bump through the humid soil Beside the aged home there was a stream that flowed at a slow and steady pace and the fishes inside jumped up and down with joy. The bubbles of the thin river overlapped and mixed with the fresh, emerald grass that danced with the whispering wind.
Ancient Home By Paz Martinavarro Pellicer PhotobyTanjaRrugaInternational Women’s Day
By Manon Hanique, IB1On March 8th, the world came together to celebrate the political, cultural, social and economic achievements of women, and to recognise the struggles they have faced in the past, and continue to face today Le Régent believed in taking part in spreading the message of empowerment of women, through the idea of a Purple Bake Sale
Over the years, the celebration has adopted the colour purple as its official one, as it represents justice, loyalty and dignity, so what better way to celebrate and support the cause with a bake sale full of purple colours?

Not only was a bake sale put into place to celebrate this day, but an assembly presented by Maria in Grade 10 was essential to give students background information about this important event. The response from the school community was incredibly enthusiastic, with teachers baking cakes and cookies, and many students coming up at breaks to purchase baked goods, ultimately leading us to raise 305 CHF!

A small group of students from the school charity, CSharp, supported by Mrs Hanique and Mrs Shaw came together to organise the bake sale so as to create an impact within our school, and encourage students to take part, and buy a sweet treat for the cause.

These funds will be dedicated to local charities that support women, both in the country and in the canton, which are all thanks to the support from our school community Let us continue to support and advocate for women’s rights globally, and try to make a change, and it doesn’t matter how big or how small this might be. With passion and dedication, we can work towards a world where every little girl, teenager and woman can thrive and feel empowered without discrimination
As said by Malala Yousafzai, “We cannot all succeed when half of us are held back”. Let us continue to advocate and celebrate the achievements of women everywhere. Today, tomorrow, and everyday.

Alas, the end of the ski season has reached our school and we are preparing to move into a nice and warm summer term filled with exams and a farewell to the IB2s But why not have a look into the lavish winter that was brought upon us? While the start and end of the winter term seemed to be overrun by snow, the middle seemed to be lacklustre on the mountaintops Barely any snow to cover the runs? Sounds like Crans Montana Of course, there were some beautiful powder days that everyone enjoyed and wanted to go up onto the mountain but what about when there were too many people on the slopes and barely enough snow that we had to take the afternoons off for a week? I’m sure everyone enjoyed spending the afternoon in the library talking to their friends andwatchingNetflix.
But what would a ski season be without a couple of injuries here and there? Not only was the winter season all so mediocre, but we also had the special guest star of injuries! The main guest stars were leg injuries this year with a couple of spotlights to upper body injuries Tumbles at ski races? Tumbles on the runs? Tumbles before evenreachingthemountain?Itallhappenedhere Andwasn'titallsofunnyseeingthosepeoplecomingbackon crutches or with braces and having to hop in the lift with them “to help carry their bags”? Even in the final weeks of the winter term, we saw injuries popping up here, there and everywhere Of course, not all crashes resulted in an injury, as we saw in that beautiful Free-ride montage made by Ms Thexton What about those “mystery” injuriesthatalwaysseemedtocomeaboutwhenyourfriendwasn’tgoingskiingoryoujustreallyweren'tupforit this time but next time you will definitely go and totally not skip again? I can tell you now that there wasn't a lack ofthatthisyear, butisthereeveralackofthat?
While the ski season has come to an end, we will still reminisce about the events that happened during the ski season Allwecandonowiswaitfornextyear’sseasonandhopeitbringsusohsomuchmoresnow
