Legacy Breaks Ground in Acres Homes: A New Chapter in Community Health Care Begins
On April 25, 2025, Legacy Community Health reached a historic milestone with the groundbreaking of the Legacy Acres Homes Clinic. Funded by a transformative $51.5 million gift from longtime partner Houston Methodist, Legacy celebrated the beginning another chapter in expanding access to high-quality health care in one of Houston’s most historic neighborhoods. Located at 3011 W. Gulf Bank Road, the new facility, designed by Kirksey Architects, will bring comprehensive, judgment-free care to a historic and vibrant part of Houston. Once complete in July 2026, the one-story, 26,200-square-foot clinic will offer adult and pediatric primary care, OB/GYN services, behavioral health, a full-service pharmacy, and, for the first time in the area, infusion services that will support oncology care.
“This clinic is more than bricks and mortar. It’s a promise to a historically underserved community,” said Robert Palussek, Interim CEO and COO of Legacy. “Thanks to Houston Methodist’s generosity and our shared values, we are building something that will last.”
Houston Methodist’s landmark gift—the largest in Legacy’s history—is also funding Legacy Pasadena Southmore Clinic, which is currently under construction and scheduled to open in early 2026. These investments mark a new phase in a relationship that began over 25 years ago and has grown into a model for nonprofit health care collaboration.
“The Acres Homes clinic is part of a more than 30-year commitment we’ve made to address the health care needs of our community,” said Cathy Easter, Senior Vice President of Community Development at Houston Methodist. “We look forward to deepening ties in this historic and vital community.”
For Legacy and Houston Methodist, “community” is more than a buzzword. It’s central to their approach—and that’s reflected in the hiring priorities for the new clinic.
“We’re making it a priority to hire from within Acres Homes,” said Palussek. “We want neighbors caring for neighbors. That’s what real community investment looks like.”
The groundbreaking also highlighted the clinic’s role in training the next generation of physicians.
Dr. Marc Boom, President and CEO of Houston Methodist, shared the importance of Legacy’s clinics in shaping future health care leaders.
“We will bring our trainees to Legacy sites and teach them how to care holistically for people,” said Boom. “That includes understanding social determinants of health, looking beyond the clinical setting, and practicing compassionate care in environments where resources can be limited.”

Legacy and Houston Methodist’s partnership has already borne fruit through programs like the Community Scholars Program and the Legacy Baytown Family Medicine Residency. With the addition of the Acres Homes clinic, that collaboration will now serve even more Houstonians—right where they are.
As Legacy breaks ground in Acres Homes, we do so with gratitude to our supporters. Your generosity helps build the future of community health care—clinic by clinic, neighborhood by neighborhood.

OUR LEGACY TODAY

Fiesta Little Readers May 4, 2025
Legacy’s Little Readers Fiesta raised more than $242,000 to celebrate 10 years of our Little Readers program: 300,000 free books and a “prescription to read” at every well-child visit. Presented by H-E-B, the festive evening brought donors and friends together to support early literacy and brighter futures for our youngest patients.

Legacy in the Community

1. Legacy’s Ray Purser, Josh Davis, and Chree Boydstun traveled to Austin for Golden Triangle Days at the Capitol an advocacy event bringing together civic and business leaders from Beaumont, Port Arthur, and Orange during the 89th Legislative Session. They met with lawmakers, including State Representative Dade Phelan, to discuss priorities like expanding affordable health care access and driving healthy change in Southeast Texas. We’re proud to represent Legacy’s mission at the Capitol alongside our Golden Triangle partners.

2. Legacy employees and pharmacy interns volunteered at Children’s Museum Houston during Free Family Night, sharing free books, promoting healthy eating, and spreading the word about Legacy’s pediatric dental and pharmacy services. A fun, hands-on evening of learning, laughter, and community connection for Houston families!
3. We’re proud to celebrate Ashley Harris-Land, Legacy’s AmeriCorps Program Director, who received the AmeriCorps Legacy of Service Award at the 41st
PLANNED GIVING

Annual Governor’s Volunteer Awards. Ashley started as a full-time member at Legacy in 2018 and now leads a program that’s grown from 9 to over 70. She’s helped modernize systems, strengthen community outreach, and guide AmeriCorps members through mentorship and career-building— significantly impacting access to care and the future of health care.

Through our partnership with FreeWill, you can create or update your legal will online in about 20 minutes—free of charge. Whether you’re heading out of town or simply catching up on life’s to-do list, this is an easy, impactful step you can take for the people and causes you care about.
Including a gift to Legacy in your estate plan is one powerful way to ensure high-quality, judgment-free health care remains available for generations. But even if you don’t make a bequest, your will is still 100% free to complete.
With nearly one in five Texans going without regular care, Legacy’s mission is more urgent than ever. Your support helps us close the gap, bringing health and hope to communities across Southeast Texas.
So, before you pack a bag or check out for the season, check off something meaningful: create your will today and help build a legacy of health that never takes a day off.
