Three McLean Little League girls all-star softball teams advanced to state comSOFTBALL tournament petition in the 9-10, 10-11 and Majors categories. Vienna was 2-2 in the tournament, defeating Springfield twice by 12-8 and 9-8 scores, and losing to Arlington, 12-0, in its other game. In the championship game for Vienna, Brandon Kim was 3 for 3, Jacob Zahalsky had an RBI single, and Finn Stafford, Evan Witczak and Dominic Linza had hits. All-Stars won the recent District 6 Tournament to advance to the state tournament in Manassas, where they finished 2-2. In the district, Vienna routed Springfield, 16-4, in the first game, then blanked Arlington, 16-0, in the title showdown. After that, Vienna defeated Springfield two more times to earn the state berth. In the state tournament, Vienna lost its first game, then won two straight to stay alive in the losers’ bracket, before falling in its final game. Players for Vienna were Jeffrey Copeland, Griffin Jenkins, Jordan Keyser, Liam Leone, Thomas Maher, Griffin McDowell, Nick Montfort, Joey Welsh, Alex Zeeve, Brett Briglia, Zachary Cosgrove, Nate Grisius, Joe Halligan, James Katz, Cameron Kendrick, Ben Kerns, Brad Porter and Eli Timberlake. games to improve to 15-5 overall and clinch the regular-season title. The victories extended Vienna’s winning streak to seven. In those five games, Vienna swept a doubleheader from Springfield Post 176 by 3-2 and 6-0 scores, downed Falls Church Post 130, 13-3, routed Alexandria Post 24, 12-2, and outscored Arlington Post 139, 6-2. Vienna will be the top seed in the upcoming four-team district tournament.
