Her comments came just days before the opening of the highway to toll-paying drivers – something that drew widespread notice for the whopping costs on the opening day (some drivers paid more than $30 to use the highway in the morning.)
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors on Dec. 5 is slated to approve a resolution authorizing the sale this coming January of $251.8 million worth of general-obligation bonds for pubic improvements. County officials plan to disburse the bond moneys as follows: • $155 million would go to Fairfax County Public Schools. • $27.8 million would serve as the county’s share of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s fiscal 2018 adopted capital-improvement program. • $20 million would go to the Fairfax County Park Authority. • $18 million would finance transportation projects approved by the Board of Supervisors, including road, pedestrian and bicycle/trail improvements. • $10 million would go toward the Huntington Levee project. • $8 million would pay for public-safety upgrades, including courtroom renovations and construction of the Lorton and Jefferson volunteer fire stations. • $5 million would support construction and close-out costs associated with the Tysons-Pimmit and John Marshall library projects. • $5 million would pay for human-ser-

As the days ticked down to opening up Interstate 66 inside the Beltway to tollpaying single-rider vehicles in rush hour, the state official who has shepherded the project through three years of development is urging everyone to have patience and goodwill in their hearts. “We’re asking the region to show mercy on us,” said Amanda Baxter, the special-projects manager overseeing outreach for the Virginia Department of Transportation on the matter, as she briefed Arlington County Board members on Nov. 28 – six days before the
