Dan Norrgran, 59, manager — Minerals & Materials Processing and Heavy Industries, passed away unexpectedly at St. Vincent Health Center in Erie on October 16, 2012. Dan was hired in 1985 as a technical representative in the Sales Department, coming from Anaconda Minerals in Tucson, AZ, where he served as technical manager — Beneficiation Applications and supervisor of the Mineral Beneficiation Laboratory.

He was active throughout Anaconda’s mining/ milling operations — successfully reducing production costs by controlling operating expenses and increasing mineral recovery. Prior to that, he worked with the U.S. Bureau of Mines in Twin Cities, MN as a Minerals Engineer. He participated in the engineering development of high intensity magnetic separators and developed a novel process for treating silver-man-

ganese ores with high intensity magnetics. A native Minnesotan, he earned his BS degree in Physics from Hamline University in St. Paul, and an MS in Mineral Engineering at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, where the emphasis of his work was on the electrostatic and high intensity magnetic separation of paramagnetic minerals. He then earned his MBA from Penn State University. He was a pro-

lific writer, authoring dozens of technical papers on magnetic separation advancements which were published in professional trade journals around the world. Dan was employed at Eriez for 27 years, most recently serving as manager of the Minerals & Materials Processing Division, where he traveled extensively worldwide in growing the company’s global equipment sales to the Mining, Coal Pro-

cessing, Industrial Minerals and other related industries into Eriez’ largest served markets. He was a respected member of several professional associations including the Canadian Institute of Metallurgy, the International Minerals Association and the Society of Mining Engineers, where he served as National Committee chairman. In 2004, he received Eriez’ highest honor, Person of the Year, in recognition for “managing the Mineral Processing Division to its present key position within our Worldwide Operations.” Talented, intelligent and caring, Dan truly lived the inscription on today’s Special Recognition plaques, You make Eriez a better

Ryan Zenor to lead SENNEBOGEN sales support in New England and Eastern Canada STANLEY, NC — SENNEBOGEN has expanded its depth of support to dealers and customers with the appointment of Ryan Zenor as regional sales manager for its northeastern sales territories of North America. Constantino Lannes, president of SENNEBOGEN LLC, announced Zenor’s new position beginning September 1, 2012. “Ryan’s extensive knowledge with material handling equipment and his personal experience through many industry sectors throughout North America make him an excellent fit for our organization,” he said. Zenor will work closely with SENNEBOGEN distributors and customers in the New England states and in the eastern provinces of Canada, from Manitoba to Nova Scotia. He has completed several weeks of orientation at the SENNEBOGEN training center in Stanley, NC. A native of Atlanta, GA, Zenor was educated in Meridian, MS, and also launched his career in the equipment industry there. Past assignments include several years serving customers of forestry machines throughout North America, as well as providing regional sales and support to log handling, scrap handling and port facilities for Pierce Pacific. Heavy machinery service was his first professional experience after earning his business diploma. “I was hired out of college by Blount Equipment. They immediately put me into the field implementing a system retrofit for their remote controlled delimbers — that was a crash course in diesel engines and hydraulics that still serves me well!” With the recent introduction of SENNEBOGEN’s unique 830 M-T forestry trailer pulling machine, Zenor’s time with Blount has provided him with a strong background and deep understanding of the needs and challenges of the market. “I have always had to compete with SENNEBOGEN in every market,” he

reports. “I recognized then how SENNEBOGEN has been able to retain a simple hydraulic design while others have shifted to electronics. I’ve seen how customers appreciate that their mechanics in the yard and the field can work on SENNEBOGEN equipment and keep

it running without looking outside for help.” “I always heard good things about SENNEBOGEN support,” Zenor continues. “It’s all borne out in their training program. This is a family business with a strong sense of family throughout the group, and ex-

tends right through to the customers.” SENNEBOGEN has been a leading name in the global material handling industry for over 60 years. Based in Stanley, NC, within the greater Charlotte region, SENNEBOGEN LLC offers a complete range of purpose

built machines to suit virtually any material handling application. Established in America in the year 2000, SENNEBOGEN LLC has quickly become a leading provider of specialized equipment solutions for recycling and

Komptech has factories in several locations in Europe. Its existing Oelde facility specialized in trommel screens and separation technology, and as demand for Komptech trommels continued to rise, it was obvious that a

larger facility would be needed. The lease on the old plant was set to expire, so instead of renewing, the company decided that the time was right to build new from the ground up. The new factory was constructed over

the course of 2012 and went into operation in early October. On October 31 the first new trommel left the factory hall, a Cribus 2800 semitrailer. It was the first of its kind to be built anywhere, and went to a customer in the U.S. Managing director Bernd Thielepape of Komptech Germany welcomed the possibilities the new plant affords: “Our growth had simply outpaced capacity in the existing Oelde plant. Now we have room to expand, and also room to be more flexible in filling special orders. The additional stock space also lets us pre-manufacture spares

so they can be available faster.” Among other things, the larger factory features a new pass through sandblaster and a new painting and drying station, for efficient coating and rustproofing. The facility includes 60,000-square-foot space for welding, assembly, and storage, a separate 6400square-foot painting hall, and 10,700-square-foot office space on a six acre lot. It employs about 120 people, and is laid out to provide 4-6 week turnaround between order entry and machine delivery. Current capacity is 120 machines per year, which can be readily increased to 200 when it becomes necessary. With this new plant, Komptech has substantially added to its capacity in the expanding trommel market, and is well prepared to execute on its growth strategy for the coming years.

F rom lawn care to Hurricane cleanup, Maryland company grows business by Larry Trojak

Bob Taylor (center) and two workers use the chipper's winch to pull a section of tree trunk into place for chipping. When Hurricane Irene swept up the east coast in Tornado chipper, the firm was a welcome sight for in the Army for 20 years, and after that, I went into August 2011, it cut a wide swath of destruction, many a business and homeowner in northern corrections for another 15 years. At that point, I felt I resulting in 45 deaths and damage estimates in the Maryland. For founder and owner Bob Taylor, the needed to go in another direction career-wise and $7 billion range. While Maryland fared better than disaster, and his ability to respond to it, took his outdoor work seemed like a nice alternative. So, in 1984, I started a lawn care service.” many other mid-Atlantic and New England states, the business to a level he never anticipated. impact of this hurricane left thousands of felled trees, Change of Scenery Taylor says he started out with little more than a the result of heavy rains and tornadoes spawned by Most contractors involved in a particular field, have pickup truck and a lawnmower, focusing mostly on the storm. With every catastrophic event, however, some kind of link, even if it’s a very peripheral one, to the lawn side of things however, people started asking comes a subsequent cleanup phase. While the large that business. Not so for Bob Taylor. His desire to get if he did any work taking down and caring for trees. “Truth be told, that’s something I’ve always wanted disaster recovery specialists tend to pick up the bulk into landscaping and tree service stems more from a of that work, smaller contractors can benefit as well. need for change. to do,” he says. “So I started looking into expanding Taylor Tree and Lawn Care is one of those smaller “I have a fairly extensive background in law my business to include tree work. I made a real effort players. Armed with a crew of three and a Morbark enforcement,” he says. “I was a military police officer to better my knowledge of the industry. I lined up a few jobs and pushed forward. I had no idea how much that would change my business.” Equipment is Key To establish himself in the tree care market, Taylor knew he would need two things: a decent knowledge of the business and a solid, reliable brush chipper. The first part he tackled by educating himself, eventually testing for and earning Maryland certification as a Licensed Tree Expert. The second part was a bit trickier. Because he didn’t want to overextend himself financially, renting equipment made the most sense. So, for about the first five years, he rented brush chippers from a number of different area dealers. “Doing that kept operating costs down,” he says. “However, it also allowed me to see the good and the bad in every machine I rented. Eventually, I found myself coming back to the Morbark dealer more and more. It seemed I was always pleased with the job the Morbark did, and I really liked its reliability and durability. Based on that, and the fact that the jobs were coming in fairly regularly, I decided to purchase one outright.” All About Performance In 2005, Taylor took delivery of a Morbark Tornado 15-inch brush chipper. He says it is one of the best decisions he’s made since going into business for Edward May (L) and Bob Taylor (R) use the chipper's winch to pull branches to the chipper to begin chipping TaylorTree 11 some of the branches that have been cut from the tree.

himself. The unit is powered by a 140 hp Caterpillar engine and, as the chipper’s name implies, it easily processes trees up to 15-inches in diameter. Additional features on Taylor’s chipper include a TorqMax™ dual feed wheel compression system which generates 6,600-foot-pounds of material pulling force; a reversing auto feed system to reduce wear and increase the life of the unit’s knives; and an option that has proven invaluable: a 5,000-pound capacity hydraulic winch. “I was debating whether or not to order the chipper with the attached winch and I’m glad we did. We see it pay dividends on almost every job we do. People don’t realize how difficult it can be to get the debris to the chipper once it’s cut. Being able to hook large limbs up to winch them in, saves a lot of wear and tear on my crew and keeps things moving along.” Good Night Irene What Hurricane Irene lacked in punch by the time she got to Maryland, she more than made up for in damage. Felled trees were seemingly everywhere; many had fallen on houses. Taylor says the impact on his business was immediate and substantial. “I was already fairly busy before Irene hit, but after that, our business probably increased by 50-75 percent,” he says. “Three months after the event, I was still looking at a backlog of trees to cut and process. Mind you, that was in addition to trying to do work for my existing client base. It was just unbelievable.” “Sometimes, I had as many as ten different jobs waiting for me at one time. When that happened, we had to prioritize. We tackled the most dangerous ones first say, one in which a tree has fallen on a house, then we would go down the list. It’s tough to tell people to wait, but the customers in a situation like that really seemed to understand.” Future Looks Bright “My business has always been built on referrals and good word of mouth,” he says. “We work hard to take care of the customer and leave the property looking like we were never there, and that’s paid off. After starting the cleanup work, word spread about the quality job we do and the phone has been ringing off the hook.” He adds that the time after the storm was demanding on him, his crew and his equipment. His crew, Clayton Glassman, Steve Nichols and Pat Johnson, answered the call nicely, working overtime as needed. “This kind of work can really tax the capabilities of a machine, but I have literally not had a single issue with this chipper,” he says. “I maintain it well and that, coupled with the support of a very good dealer in Elliott and Frantz, has helped us maintain the momentum we have. We’re excited for what lies ahead.”

Ready response effort keeps Taylor Tree busy by Jon M. Casey Since Hurricane Irene came ashore a little over one year ago, Bob Taylor and his crew has been busy with his regular clientele until recently when the area was hit once again by the remnants of Hurricane Sandy. In much the same way, Taylor Tree & Lawn Care, Inc. responded to the needs of the Harford County Maryland community to assist in the cleanup effort. In late November 2012, Bob Taylor commented on the cleanup efforts by him and his crew. “We are on call for several insurance companies here in our local area,” said Bob. “When a storm like Sandy or Irene hits, we drop what we are doing and the storm damage takes priority. We were hit very hard in this area with Sandy, so we were very busy in the past several weeks.” Taylor said that the storm damage was much like the last time with trees down on houses, trucks, sheds, horse barns, all the typical kinds of structures that are targeted by the wind blown trees as they fall. “Since Irene, we received several new customers that wanted their trees pruned to prevent future damage, so that has kept us busy along with our regular customers since Irene.

The tree that we are trimming today is one with several of its branches over a shed and a gazebo. The tree made it through Sandy but it certainly could cause damage if another storm should come through. The homeowner wanted us to prune the tree back so that it would be in better shape to withstand another storm without damaging the nearby structures.” Taylor said that his business has grown in the past couple of years because of the word of mouth referrals that Taylor Tree gets and because of their excellent rating with the Better Business Bureau. “We have an A plus rating with the BBB and customers will often check with them to select a tree company or lawn service. Our past customers are our best reference. We like to walk the grounds with our customers when the job is done to make sure that we have provided the service that they expected. If they are not completely satisfied, we stay and finish the job to their satisfaction. That helps us to maintain our integrity as a local company who is here for them.” “We are extremely happy with our Morbark Chipper,” he said. “Keith Brong is here today to deliver a parts kit upgrade for our

unit. We saw a cleanout door for the discharge chute at the TCI Expo in Baltimore earlier this month, and we ordered one to install on our chipper. Keith and Jeffrey Slebzak of Elliott & Frantz, Inc. our local Morbark dealer, are dropping it off to us here today.” Edward May, one of Bob’s two regular employees who work with him on a daily basis, said that he especially likes the Morbark Chipper because of the steady feed rate that the unit has. “Other chippers that we’ve used whip the material into the infeed at such a fast rate that they whip my backside when the branches go in,” he said. “With the Morbark, the feed rate is steadier and it doesn’t leave welts on the backs of my legs.” Bob likes the reliability and durability of the chipper as well. “With regular maintenance and service, this machine runs like new,” he said. “We bought this unit new, five or six years ago and it runs as well as it did the very first day. When it is time to replace this chipper, our next one will definitely be a Morbark chipper.” For more information on Morbark Chippers and equipment, visit their website at www.morbark.com.

GrinderCrusherScreen goes to battle with Extreme Armor GrinderCrusherScreen Inc., a leader in selling used wood grinders, crushers, shredders and screening plants, has just announced the grand opening of GrinderCrusherScreen Wear Parts, a new division devoted to the sales of tips, hammers and screens for all major manufactures of wood grinders. This new expansion into the wear parts industry is a natural fit as they already sell an abundance of tub grinders and horizontal grinders throughout the United States and internationally. According to owner, Neal Kaiserman, “our customers wanted a reputable company to purchase their wear parts from. They wanted customer service and a product that will last without costing an arm and leg. Our quality is second to none and our prices are definitely less money when comparing equal parts.” As a part of this announcement, GrinderCrusherScreen Wear Parts is introducing a new revolutionary product called Extreme Armor ™. This special welding process allows for twice the carbide to be used and results in parts lasting 2-3 times longer than standard parts. The beautiful part of Extreme Armour is that it only costs 30 to 40 percent more than a normal tip. Kaiserman explains “it takes time for a customer to realize that it is ok to spend 30 to 40 percent more on a part to get 2-3 times the life. In the long run

BLUEFIELD, WV — SENNEBOGEN expects to see its green machine material handlers taking a stronger position in West Virginia through the efforts of its newest distributor. Rish Equipment Company was recently introduced by Constantino Lannes, president of SENNEBOGEN LLC, as the manufacturer’s authorized dealer for West Virginia. According to Rish CEO

Myron Jones, the territory holds ample opportunity for his new line of purpose built material handlers. “About 65 percent of our current business is in the coal and energy industries,” Jones explains. “Coal is a key commodity at regional river terminals, so we see our river ports as our No. 1 potential for SENNEBOGEN. Our experience here will definitely be able to help SEN-

NEBOGEN make its mark in our coal mining sector. But representing SENNEBOGEN will also help to lead our sales into some new types of customers, too.” Rish Equipment began operations as Bluefield Supply in 1934, led by Lon Rish. Building on its record as a top distributor for International Harvester, Rish became the regional Komatsu dealer in 1983 and recently celebrated

30 years of service to the mining and construction industries. The firm now operates 12 service locations throughout the region. “We took on SENNEBOGEN to diversify our offering to current and potential customers,” Jones continues. “I had spoken often with many SENNEBOGEN

Grinder from 14 longevity of the parts. We will always carry the standard parts which we are confident will stand up and exceed any part sold by an OEM. When asked if there is a huge difference be-

tween wear tips, Kaiserman said “absolutely.” A known secret in the industry is that most manufacturers do not manufacture their own tips so they buy them from companies like Grinder-

CrusherScreen. “I am sad to say that the majority of blanks in the industry come from the same providers from overseas and the carbide also comes from local U.S. distributors who

W.E. Timmerman Whitehouse, NJ Northern NJ

purchase carbide from the same sources overseas. The differences in tips can be seen by the quality of weld and the amount of carbide put into each tip. Many companies cut corners and

expenses by putting less carbide on the part. They do this to maximize profits. GrinderCrusherScreen Wear Parts will differentiate themselves from the others by having consistent parts that

last,” he said. The Wear Parts division of GrinderCrusherScreen Inc. is unique in that it has a complete catalogue of parts on line at www.GrinderCrusherScreen.com/parts.htm categorized by grinder brand names and models. They offer carbide weld tips and solid carbide tips so they can supply almost any tip available on the market. Most suppliers of tips only sell a few sizes of tips. GrinderCrusherScreen not only offers hundreds of tips but they offer them in any weld selection that the customer requires. In addition, they can take care of your screens and hammers at extremely competitive pricing. Kaiserman claims that many suppliers of wear parts do not educate their customers and that they have little idea what they are buying. He says “many customers are shopping strictly price and do not consider the fact that not all parts are equal. For instance, screens for grinders can be made out of AR400 Plate or AR500 plate but we were surprised how many customers were receiving screens made out of mild steel. This is where buying from a reputable supplier is crucial.” In a dismal economy, GrinderCrusherScreen has grown tremendously by sticking to their beliefs that anyone can sell a machine or part, but GrinderCrusherScreen’s success relies on providing the correct machine or part for the customer’s particular application. This differentiates GrinderCrusherScreen Inc. from its competitors. For more information, call GrinderCrusherScreen Inc. at 971-3440001 (west coast) or 770433-2670 (east coast) or on line at www.GrinderCrusherScreen.com.

MTL Environmental takes on Sandy by Dave Whitelaw

Komptech Crambo 6000 helps cleanup effort With little room to spare, material on was stockpiled along the coastline where other storm damage was evident as seen in this View from Nickerson Beach Shoreline into the Parking Lot of Nickerson Beach Park. Michael Potts, owner of MTL Environmental knew had grown up in the tree business and after graduat- horizontal grinder. As he prepared for Hurricane the storm was coming so he had gone to Long Island ing from college in 2002 he was offered a job as a Sandy’s landfall, even with all that equipment at his before Hurricane Sandy made landfall on the east stock broker. By responding to the damage from When the storm had passed and Michael had a storm. His company’s early preparations proved to be those two weather events, Michael was able to chance to assess the kind of debris that his people time well spent. acquire his first grapple truck and make a down would be dealing with, his first call was to Komptech Michael has more than a decade of storm cleanup payment on a second truck. USA. Michael knew he would need a shredder that experience that dates all the way back to the Kansas Today, he owns numerous pieces of rolling stock could handle big diameter trees, root balls and other City Ice storm and Hurricane Lily in 2002. Michael including 8 grapple trucks, 7 tractor trailers and a debris contaminated brush. He knew that he needed a Crambo 6000 low speed shredder to do the job. Potts had had previous experience with New England style storm cleanup following the big Connecticut snow storm in 2011. He knew that he would need to be able to shred large diameter wood and contaminated debris. That was necessary. So for MTL, the Crambo was the answer. As Michael explains, while Hurricane Sandy wasn’t a monster Category 3, 4 or 5 storm, it was a long, drawn out event, with winds from 45-70 mph for several days. With the ground already saturated from earlier rainfall, the big trees on Long Island had no support. Many came down. “Had Sandy had the high winds of a larger hurricane, things would have been exponentially worse,” Michael added. Just the same, the damage was historic. “Some of the stumps and root balls are the size of dump trucks,” he says. “Those stumps and big wood are something the Crambo can handle. Because of the Crambo’s low speed and high torque, there is less wear on the parts and it uses a lot less fuel. We’re able to run 24 hours a day because of the reduced maintenance time.” MTL has set up a green waste yard in Hicksville, NY where they have hundreds of thousands of yards on site. There, material comes in as raw material heads back out, shredded. At 7-10,000-yards per day, Potts says there is no time for down time. MTL, is one of the teams contracted to Looks Great Services, Inc., the company overseeing the entire cleanup effort. Looks Great Services is from nearby Huntington, NY, which is on Long Island. Michael said that Looks Great owner, Christian Agoglia, is Tree trunks go through the Crambo with as much ease as do the limbs and smaller stock.

contracted to cleanup Nassau County, NY and Michael enjoys helping them to get back to normal again. The majority of the damage from Hurricane Sandy on Long Island, came from the storm surge. Water and waves pounded the coastline and with New York and New Jersey’s many rivers and Harbors, the disaster that unfolded was devastating. In many places, much of the shoreline, the buildings, the boardwalks, docks and businesses, are gone. Inland flooding left five feet of water into many homes in Long Beach, NY. As a result, crews had to establish piles of demolition debris in local Parks throughout in the County. As the cleanup continues, working to shred or reduce the material and haul it away, will take months. Michael says storms like this will happen elsewhere in the future, and he plans for MTL to be ready and onsite as well. He says one of the reasons for his success is his relationship with his banker, Gene Columbus of Regions Bank, Memphis, TN. “We’ve built a level of trust” (with Regions Bank), that keeps the train running” he said. “When we have 70-80 trucks working at one time, “you really do” need a great relationship with your banker.” Debris Management Plan Michael says that he has some sound advice for county and municipal governments. “The nature of nature is that it is unpredictable,” he says. “Planning is the key. A Pre-Event Contract is like an insurance policy. You don’t want to have to use it, but if you need to, it is already in place. With a Debris Management Plan in place and having sites available and able to take large amounts of material — in the hundreds of thousands of yards — makes after storm cleanup more effective. They need to have larger identified sites for the storm damaged materials and then they need to know where that material will go after it is collected.” Future Plans When not on storm cleanups, Potts says that his core tree service businesses include residential and commercial tree work, land clearing and municipal yard debris contracts. MTL provides mulch and colored mulch and other landscape materials from their own green waste yards. The MTL Environmental Division also provides consulting services to assist counties and cities for creating Debris Management Plans and Pre-Event Contracts. For more information on MTL Environmental at Michael’s Tree and Loader Service, call 901-301-4682 or visit their website at www.mtlmemphis.com.

Steadily, the Komptech Crambo 6000 shreds the storm damaged material into coarse mulch.

From ball caps to bed frames, the debris piles contain something from every aspect of life.

Tree stumps larger than a small car are regularly arriving at the collection site.

This collection site is a busy place with material coming in to Cantiague Park, from damaged areas of Nassau County.

Atop the pile of shredded material, the size of the cleanup that is underway is mind numbing. The Green Waste Site is operated by Michaels Tree and Loader Service, Memphis, TN.

Superior Industries Trailblazer Conveyor sets industry standard MORRIS, MN — Superior Industries’ innovative Trailblazer® Conveyor provides efficiency at a level never before seen. The first of its kind conveyor enables crews to set up or take down in as little as two hours. That’s a significant time savings over both transfer conveyors, which contain multiple pieces and stationary groundline conveyors, which require days or even weeks for setup and tear down. The versatility of the Trailblazer conveyor makes it ideal for a variety of applications and industries including aggregate, mining, recycling, waste handling and bulk processing. It includes 500-feet of fully belted and assembled groundline style conveyor that folds up in a unique accordion style to easily transport on an attached 84-foot trailer. Providing 500-feet in a one load, towable package makes installation as easy as determining a starting point and marking the destination. Once marked, the truck driver moves forward, and a crew of two to four unloads the conveyor. The crew inserts the supports as the conveyor takes shape, sets takeups and attaches the conveyor’s hopper. For added productivity, the hopper can be placed at any location along the conveyor. The Trailblazer conveyor’s innovative accordion design not only allows for easier transport, but it also provides greater length with less setup time. With a length of 60 to 80-feet for an average transport conveyor, it would take up to eight of them to equal the same 500-foot stretch of the Trailblazer conveyor. Those other conveyors also would

require eight belts to maintain, eight drives to power and eight transfer points. Connecting points can become spillage zones and greasing points. Eliminating them not only decreases the amount of spillage, but also the number of areas that require supports. That, in turn, significantly reduces downtime for maintenance. Further enhancing efficiency and productivity is Superior’s exclusive Navigator® Return Trainer. Used to provide continuous belt alignment, the return roller from the company’s Components Division maintains tracking and avoids material buildup that can cause costly downtime. Hinges provide belt flexibility to easily accommodate variations in grade, and a 50 horsepower system ensures smooth travel at any incline. Trailblazer conveyors are fully customizable and can be designed to various lengths and with additional components to fit a customer’s specifications. Standard belt sizes are 36 or 42-inches wide x 500-feet long. Capacity limits range from 1,000 short tons per hour (STPH) to 1,200 STPH of 100 pounds per cubic foot density material, with a belt speed of up to 400-feet per minute. The Trailblazer conveyors also is engineered and equipped with safety in mind. Its towable package includes a fifth wheel hitch, brakes and directional lights. Transport straps and pull-pins ensure that each conveyor section comes off the chassis one at a time, and help guide it safely onto supports. Bolt together guard rails easily pin into place. In addition, to ensure safety during set up and take down, Superior’s

team provides conveyor operators with complete training on the system. Established in 1972, Superior Industries has a reputation of engineering and manufacturing groundbreaking bulk material handling conveyors and cutting edge components. From its headquarters in Morris, MN, the company manufactures stackers, transfer conveyors, stationary systems, idlers, pulleys and accessories. Its goal is to help customers lower operating costs and increase production. The company manufactures from two additional plants in Arizona and Georgia. groups’ experience in selected sectors provide a strong base, they will have “no preconceived notions” of where their SENNEBOGEN machines can be part of a customer’s solution. Jones forecasts increasing activity in scrap and recycling business, as well as opportunities in the area’s many logging yards. He recently invited SENNEBOGEN’s Regional Manager to his Bluefield location to assist with a two day training session for Rish sales staff. Technicians from the Rish service departments are scheduled for courses at the SENNEBOGEN training facility in Stanley, NC. Rish is now expecting a stock order of several machines to arrive in time to demonstrate them at upcoming conferences and customers. Eriez® celebrates 65 years with Dominion-Carolina Sales, Inc. ERIE, PA — 2012 marks the 65th year of partnership between Eriez® and High Point, North Carolina based sales representative company Dominion-Carolina. “Eriez’ partnerships with a number of United States sales representative companies go back more than 50 years, but our 65 year relationship with Dominion-Carolina is our longest,” explained Charlie Ingram, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. The Eriez/Dominion-Carolina relationship dates back to 1947 when Bob Merwin, son of Eriez founder O.F. Merwin, and Dean Thomas, a retired school teacher who ultimately formed Dominion-Carolina, initiated the partnership with a handshake. “To think Eriez was just a five year old company when the partnership started is absolutely amazing,” said Ingram. “The fact that 2012 is the anniversary of Eriez’ 70th year in business as well as our 65th year with Dominion-Carolina makes both milestones more special.” When Eriez and Dominion-Carolina began working together, Thomas worked for the Henry Hersey Company. Later, when Thomas was made partner, the manufacturers’ representative company was renamed the Hersey-Thomas Company. Thomas went on to form his own company, which eventually became Dominion-Carolina. Throughout the years, the relationship between Thomas and Eriez

remained strong. Thomas stayed active in the business until his death in 1999. Dominion-Carolina remains a family business with Thomas’ stepson, Jeff Carr, today serving as president. Under Carr’s leadership, the company has expanded and opened branch offices in Richmond, VA, Rock Hill, SC and Smith Mountain Lake, VA. “We feel incredibly grateful and fortunate for this longstanding, successful partnership,” said Ingram. “While both companies have evolved and grown tremendously over the past 65 years, our relationship has remained solid.” According to Ingram, it’s the Eriez/Dominion-Carolina customers who enjoy the greatest benefits from the 65 year collaboration. He explains, “It’s uncommon to find a field sales organization with so much experience, even longer than most principal companies have existed. Their knowledge and experience is an invaluable asset to our mutual customers.” Eriez is recognized as world authority in advanced technology for magnetic, vibratory and inspection applications. The company’s magnetic lift and separation, metal detection, x-ray, materials feeding, screening, conveying and controlling equipment have application in the process, metalworking, packaging, recycling, mining, aggregate and textile industries. Eriez manufactures and markets these products through 12 international facilities located on six con-

tinents. For more information, call toll free 888-300-ERIEZ (3743) within the U.S. and Canada. For online users, visit www.eriez.com or send e-mail to

This new generation product incorporates the latest cutting tooth technologies and power drive systems, while maintaining the rugged reliability expected of Loftness equipment. The mulching heads operate at 1,700 to 2,150 RPM and feature a four groove banded belt drive with spring loaded tensioner. They come standard with a fixed displacement, piston style motor that delivers hydraulic power at 97 percent efficiency, which is much higher than traditional gear type motors offer. The fixed displacement motor can be upgraded to the innovative V-Drive system that includes a variable displacement motor with load sensing technology. Under light loads, the VDrive system operates at maximum RPM, and as the load increases, it automatically lowers the rotor RPM to maximize torque. The mulching head offers full rotation, thanks to specially designed hose routing. This feature also allows the unit to easily position trees with the adjustable push bar and welded claw hooks. The push bar can be used to push falling brush and trees away from the power unit, and the claw hooks can pull material into position for proper feeding. Hydraulic push bar adjustment is optional. The Carbide Cutter G3

is also designed for maximum durability. For instance, high strength Hardox® steel is used in areas exposed to high wear. Furthermore, the Carbide Cutter G3 is equipped with a custom hydraulic control valve that protects the unit from pressure spikes, and it also stops the rotor quickly on shut down without damaging the components. Other standard features include an onboard pressure gauge, steel deflector chains and adjustable skid shoes. Tooth options include Standard Carbide teeth, Planer Carbide teeth and Quadco Planer Blades. Loftness manufactures the VMLogix line of vegetation management equipment, the GrainLogix line of grain bagging equipment, and the CropLogix line of crop shredders. WEST FARGO, ND — The new Doosan DXB130H and DXB190H hydraulic breakers feature an energy recovery system that increases strike power for maximum productivity. The nitrogen powered breakers are equipped with an upper/lower suspension system that isolates the power unit from the housing, making it an ideal fit for in a variety of demanding applications. Delivering up to 600 blows per minute, the 2,822-pound DXB130H is designed for use with excavators in the 15 to 22 metric ton weight range, specifically the Doosan DX180LC, DX190W and DX210W. Rated in the 3,000 -foot-pound impact energy class, the DXB130H requires a hydraulic flow rate of between 23.8 and 37 gallons per minute. The 3,698-pound DXB190H is designed for use with excavators in the 21 to 31 metric ton weight range, which includes the DX225LC, DX235LCR, DX255LC and DX300LC

Doosan excavators. The DXB190H is rated in the 6,000-foot-pound impact energy class and requires a hydraulic flow rate of between 31.7 and 47.5 gallons per minute. The DXB190H is engineered with Doosan’s two speed control, which also is available on the DXB260H breaker. With two speeds, the DXB190H breaker frequency can be manually adjusted between low and high frequency settings. This allows the operator to match the breaker impact rate to the working conditions for optimized productivity. The energy recovery system captures the piston’s rebound energy and uses it to increase strike power, maximizing performance. At the same time, the main control valve system optimizes strike power. Blank fire protection is standard on both the DXB130H and the DXB190H, and is accomplished by using a cushion of oil at the base of the piston, which reduces the metal to metal contact in case of a blank fire situation. Delivering up to 600 blows per minute, the 2,822-pound DXB130H is designed for use with excavators in the 15 to 22 metric ton weight range, specifically the Doosan DX180LC, DX190W and DX210W. The breakers’ suspension system extends excavator work group life by absorbing harmful vibrations and stress waves. Also, a patented main valve design reduces hydraulic pressure peaks that can reduce pump life, crack excavator work group welds and cause system overheating. The cradle mounted grease station delivers continuous grease flow, reducing bushing and tool wear while minimizing maintenance costs and downtime. The DXB130H and DXB190H breakers also come with a mounting cap, auxiliary hydraulic hoses, two moil points, toolbox and a nitrogen checking device. A one-year limited warranty also comes standard. In addition to the general purpose moil, working tools avail-

able for the DXB130H and DXB190H include a blunt tool, a chisel and a pyramidal or “nail” point. SENNEBOGEN attachment lineup includes new 5 tine grapples STANLEY, NC — The green line 5 tine hydraulic grapples recently introduced for SENNEBOGEN scrap handlers include models ranging from .50 to 5cubic-yards. The green line series was created by SENNEBOGEN to meet most needs of its scrap handling customers. Constantino Lannes, president of SENNEBOGEN LLC, says the new grapples simplify purchasing of SENNEBOGEN scrap handling equipment. “Operators can now deal with a trusted standard of reliability and support for the complete productivity solution.” The models with optional rotators provide high lift and torque capacity. Furthermore, the

rotators are designed to accept high radial loads and axial loads, ideal for the pushing and pulling stresses in recycling applications. Each model operates within a wide pressure range, to a maximum of 5500 psi, to cover the widest possible range of equipment operating pressures. Protective features such as steel hose guards and cylinder guards enhance reliability by minimizing potential damage to critical components from impacts or debris. Direct hose routings further reduce the grapple’s exposure to damage. All wear surfaces of the tines are 33 percent more wear resistant than T1 steel and tips are fabricated using a material

providing 44 percent better abrasion resistance than typical AR-500 steel. The times are specifically designed to shed material cleanly and prevent material accumulation. SENNEBOGEN grapples are available exclusively through authorized SENNEBOGEN distributors throughout United States, Canada and South and Central America. SENNEBOGEN has

been a leading name in the global material handling industry for over 60 years. Based in Stanley, NC, within the greater Charlotte region, SENNEBOGEN LLC offers a complete range of purpose built machines to suit virtually any material handling application. Established in America in the year 2000, SENNEBOGEN LLC has quickly become a leading provider of

specialized equipment solutions for recycling and scrap metal yards, barge and port operations, log handling, transfer stations and waste facilities from coast to coast. A growing network of distributors supports SENNEBOGEN LLC sales and service across the Americas, ensuring the highest standard of professional machine support and parts availability.

For more information on the full line of SENNEBOGEN green line material handlers, contact Constantino Lannes, president, SENNEBOGEN LLC, 1957 Sennebogen Trail (formerly 7669 Old Plank Rd.), Stanley, NC 28164. Call 704-347-4910 or fax 704-347-8894. Email sales@sennebogenllc.com or visit the web site at www.sennebogen-na.com.
