ARTS LESLIE HALL Leslie Adkins-Hall is a wellreceived writing instructor at numerous locations around the Pacific Northwest. She has written eight novels, six of them mysteries. Her non-fiction has appeared in many local and national publications. She is a cofounder and facilitator of Write Night, a local weekly writers group.
Writing Beginning Fiction: Crash Course Improve the depth and flow of your storytelling in a class designed for new and developing creative writers. You will work step-bystep through a plan for a complete story including developing characters, mapping plot, writing dialogue and creating exciting beginnings and resolutions. Bring pen and paper and be prepared to write; you will have lots of exercises and opportunities for feedback. Taking Your Drafts to the Next Level Whether you have taken a free-writing workshop, or have first drafts tucked away from other writing, this is your chance to dig in and edit some of those lingering first drafts. Editing techniques and tips will be provided at each workshop. Bring your edited versions of previous first drafts to read aloud to workshop participants, then listen to support feedback from others. We will then have the option to further polish the same writing, or to start editing another first draft for feedback. Beginning writers are welcome. Some publishing resources will be made available. Explore Seattle and improve your writing in this creative writing class for all levels. Students will draw inspiration from prominent North Seattle landmarks and neighborhoods—including the Fremont Troll, Green Lake, the Ballard Locks and others—during guided off-campus walks. Each walk will include information about the neighborhood or landmark, writing prompts and exercises and an opportunity for students to share their written work with their peers and instructor. Write Your First Book This course will help both beginning authors and those who need a nudge with a book underway. Rather than focus on how to write a specific genre (memoir, non-fiction or fiction), the course will include: how to know a good book idea when you meet one, deciding how to tell your story, plotting an arc, the importance of re-writing, and weekly exercises to get you writing and keep writing.
