ENTERTAINMENT
Flying Saucer Cinema
This is a classic science fiction film appreciation class highlighting beloved films that cry out for viewing in a group setting the way they were first presented to the world. Each week will bring something new, films ranging from ‘Golden Age’ sci-fi of the 1950s and 60s to the dystopian science fiction of the 1970s and occasional forays beyond. Co-hosts Eric Cohen and Mark Daniels will be your guides and provide you with film information, trivia and lively post-screening discussions every week. We kick off this quarter with Ib Melchior’s timeless classic Angry Red Planet, an imaginative take on how the first mission to Mars could play out. Next up is It! The Terror from Beyond Space. (You’ll have to sign up to learn what ‘it’ is.) After that we will explore one of the first computer-run-amok films, Colossus: The Forbin Project. (Move over, Skynet.) We wrap up the quarter with Steve McQueen (yes, you read that correctly—it was his breakout leading role) in an unforgettable classic, The Blob, about an iconic alien life form that consumes everything in its path. Whether you are a seasoned science fiction film buff or simply want to put your head in a different place for a couple of hours every week, this will be an engaging, fun adventure of a class you won’t want to miss. 10594 7/6/2022 - 7/27/2022 7:00 - 9:00PM 4 ses W Cohen/Daniels CC Bldg; Room 3457 $79

Introduction to Yoga Philosophy
There is much more to yoga than the physical poses. The eight philosophical limbs of yoga, or the eightfold path, offers opportunities to develop resilience, concentration and felicity. We will explore these eight limbs as explained in The Yoga Sutras of Sage Patanjali in the second chapter on practice written approximately 1,500 years ago. We will view them through the lens of yoga postures and The Tree of Yoga written by BKS Iyengar while journaling and learning simple relaxation techniques to quiet the mind. This course is open to all. Handouts will be provided. You will walk away with a solid understanding of the eight limbs of yoga and of the Sage Patanjali. Class will meet outdoors, weather permitting. 11427 6/30/2022 - 8/18/2022 9:00 - 10:15AM 8 ses Th Bernstein ED Bldg; Room 2843A $119
