Welcome to the 2016 Highlander Leadership Awards Welcome Family, Friends and esteemed NJIT faculty and staff. As Coordinator of the Highlander Student Leadership Awards, I would like to take this time to thank you for attending today’s ceremony. The Highlander Student Leadership Awards has been a long standing tradition at NJIT, with the purpose of recognizing students for their leadership commitment to student life in & outside of the classroom. NJIT has the brightest students who conduct research and maintain outstanding commitment to their academics. In addition, NJIT is comprised of students who volunteer hours of their time to enhance student life by volunteering to serve in leadership positions within clubs and student organizations. Today’s award ceremony is to recognize those students who have gone above and beyond in their role as a student leader.

Special attention is given to those who assisted with making this event come together.

iLead Certificate Program The iLEAD Leadership Certificate Program was an idea of the late Lisa A. Pierce who envisioned providing students with the necessary skills and knowledge to enable them to become well rounded leaders. To qualify for an iLead Certificate, a student must have attended at least four workshops within a specific track. The iLead Certificate program is organized by Sherlene Ayala and NJIT students who serve in a variety of leadership positions. Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) The Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) was launched in Fall 2011 by Sherlene Ayala. The program uses the Social Change Model of Leadership Development as its foundation.  The National Leadership Honor Society The following students were be initiated into Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society. Membership in ODK is of highest distinction and honor. ODK was founded on December 3, 1914 at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia by 15 student and faculty leaders. The NJIT Circle of ODK was founded on May 6, 1950. The purpose of ODK is to recognize individuals who consistently achieve high standards of excellence throughout the five phases of campus life.
