Welcome from the Director of Sport
The past week has provided a timely opportunity to reflect on what we value most within our school sport programme, while also celebrating some truly outstanding moments.
Last week’s success in Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) Hockey was exceptional, narrowly missing out on first place, but we are incredibly proud of the silver medals they came home with. Achievements of this nature do not happen by chance. Rather, they are the result of consistent effort, high-quality coaching and students who are willing to commit to one another as teammates. Just as importantly, they reflect a shared understanding across the school that performance and personal development are not mutually exclusive. My congratulations go to all involved, as well as to the staff who supported them so magnificently behind the scenes.

This week, attention turns to our U13 age group, who face their own challenge at the IAPS Hockey event. While we naturally hope for success, our focus remains broader than results alone. At this stage, we want your children to be learning how to compete with confidence, respond positively to challenge and take genuine enjoyment from representing their school. Those habits, developed early, serve them far beyond the immediate fixture list. Reflection has also been central following last week’s 13+ Sports Experience Day. It was an energetic day, characterised by enthusiasm, curiosity and a willingness from the participants to fully engage. Importantly, it has prompted valuable discussion among staff about how we design sporting experiences for the future. We continually ask ourselves how we can best balance aspiration with enjoyment, structure with freedom and challenge with support. This reflective approach sits at the heart of our sporting ethos as we continue to plan for the future
At Seaford Sport, we believe that sport should first and foremost be a positive social experience. Research into youth sport increasingly highlights its role as one of the last strong social institutions for young people; places where friendships form, confidence grows and a sense of belonging is reinforced. This mirrors what we strive to create daily: environments where students feel safe to try, to fail, to improve and to succeed together. Consequently, sport becomes not just something our students do, but somewhere they feel they belong.
This philosophy will again underpin Friday’s 11+ Sports Experience Day. The emphasis will remain firmly on the word experience. Rather than placing pressure on outcomes or labels, we aim to give pupils a day that is engaging and memorable. In doing so, we hope to nurture some connection to sport at our College and build on the positive moments that will happen during the day.
To return to the themes of the research, youth sport matters because of the communities it builds and the experiences it provides. If we can ensure that our children leave the field smiling, connected and eager to return, then we are confident we are delivering sport in the right way.

Additional Medical Support
To continue to ensure that we are providing proactive, gold-standard care to our students, the school is in partnership with Return2Play, the UK’s leading sports medicine partners for schools. Feedback from other schools and parents utilising their expertise is strong, while our own experience has been overwhelmingly positive thus far.
If you have any queries regarding your account, then please get in touch with Return2Play directly via hello@return2play.org.uk and they will be happy to help. The helpdesk runs 7 days a week.

Wet Weather and Cancellations
As a team, we will always do everything within our control to ensure fixtures and recreational activities go ahead as scheduled. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated via the respective sports coaches and clarion call.
Dogs on the School Site
We are a dog-friendly site; however, can I remind all parents that dogs should always be on a lead while onsite, and should not be on the field of play. If challenged by a member of staff, please be polite, respect the campus rules and remember that the safety of our students is paramount.
Parents and Supporters – Code of Conduct
For our core values (RESPECT, TEAMWORK, COURAGE, TRUST) to be upheld and our sports programme to be truly successful, it takes the cooperation of all involved – players, coaches, officials, staff, spectators and parents. The College and the staff have spent some time and effort reinforcing these sporting values within Seaford, and we believe it is essential that we include parents and friends of the College in this process.
One of the key questions we ask all supporters to consider is:
‘How does our touchline behaviour shape character and enhance the enjoyment for all the players during the game?’
Please let the coaches coach so that you can enjoy the parental match day experience. As a team and a college, we value performance and desired learning behaviours over the scoreboard – win, lose or draw, it is about the experience and the students making memories with their friends. Thank you for your support with this! Successful College sport is built upon strong partnerships between the students, parents and the College.
We look forward to seeing you all on the sidelines, both home and away, and thank you for your continued support of the Seaford Sport programme.
