Editor’s Note

September/October 2015  The Edenbridge Directory

Dear Neighbours, Wow, where did summer go? It’s been a whirlwind of activity as usual and my highlight was definitely

judging the Edenbridge Primary School’s fancy dress competition at their Summer Fayre in July. Well done to 4-year-old Jacob Waite who won first prize for his Mike the Knight costume.

Presenting The Community Show on Channel Radio with my husband Russell has also been fascinating.

Recently

our studio guest was local Puppy Walker, Don Baker from Ide Hill, who volunteers for the Guide Dogs charity.

If

you want to find out more about the start of a puppy’s

training to becoming a guide dog then visit our website

www.thecommunityshow.net and go to Past Shows/Show#13.

As well as the end of the summer holidays and the youngsters going back to school, September sees the return of the Edenbridge Motor Show at Gabriels Farm on 20th September. The helicopter rides will be back and there will also

be new activities for both the young and old to have a go on. Full details on page 31 of this issue.

I always try and bring the best in prizes for the crossword competition and

this time you can win a cut and blow dry at Options Hair Salon. If you’re a local business and you’d like to sponsor a future crossword then it’s easy, you simply donate a prize and your business logo will appear on the front cover

(otherwise you’ll have to wait until the end of 2017 as this is how much in advance the front covers have been booked)!

I hope you enjoy this issue and please, don’t forget to mention The Edenbridge

Directory if you are responding to anything you’ve seen featured in this magazine as it helps secure it’s future. December issue is 2

Nick Brooker, Branch Manager of Handelsbanken Sevenoaks, explains how, by being prepared, the mortgage process can be a more relaxed affair. “They say that moving house is one of life’s great stresses. So the Mortgage Market Review (MMR) regulation introduced last year may be viewed as adding more stress to most home-buyer’s woes. It is true that MMR has made it incumbent on all mortgage lenders to critically assess the affordability of a mortgage application both now and in the future, to anticipate potential increases in interest rates. Lenders also need to be able to establish in the case of an interest only mortgage that, subject to status, the borrower has or will have the means to repay the capital from a clearly identified source of funding. However such regulation is also put in place to protect borrowers, to ensure that the amount they apply for is appropriate based on their circumstances and is unlikely to put them under pressure in the future if rates do rise. This may all seem arduous, on top of the form filling and mortgage interviews, but being prepared for the process can save time and enable buyers to concentrate on assessing properties which fall within their price range. Given that MMR impacts on all lenders regulated to sell Regulated Mortgage Contracts

(RMC) then the process for mortgage customers will be very similar whether the mortgage interview is conducted by telephone or face-toface. Ahead of any first meeting or application I suggest you ensure you have considered the following:• That you have financial records a minimum of six bank statements statements.

available your extending back months, such as and mortgage

• Have copies of earnings such as salary slips available and, if selfemployed or a business owner, copies of tax returns and financial accounts for the business.

Business Feature

Handelsbanken - taking the stress out of mortgaging

• Have critically assessed your level of regular expenditure over an average month. This applies not just to usual outgoings, such as mortgage payments, council tax and utilities, but also discretionary expenditure such as holidays, clothing and leisure. Take an average based on costs over 12 months. Ultimately the lender will be looking to demonstrate a monthly surplus, based on current and possible future rate rises, having deducted the total of these costs against proven net monthly income. For more information about Handelsbanken Sevenoaks and the full range of business and individual services we offer, please visit our website. Alternatively, you can contact me on 01732 452 920 to arrange a chat about your banking needs.”

appearances - Transforming the way we look Pt 7 Aesthetic Therapist Gillian Huntley of award winning appearances is celebrating 30 years in the industry next year and her treatments can really transform the lives of her clients by boosting their confidence through the non-surgical procedures she offers.

As well as specialist treatments such as mole removal, mesotherapy, thread vein/ pigmentation removal, skin peels using the Image Skincare range, skin tag removal, Gillian also delivers semipermanent cosmetic treatments such as eyebrow and eyeliner tattooing, areola reconstruction, receding hairlines and medical tattooing. Gilian has her own clinic in Chislehurst, but sees many of her local clients at Options Beauty Salon in Edenbridge High Street. All her treatments are carried out to the highest possible standards and as well as the relevant certifications to carry out her business, she has also been recognised for her work at the recent “Kent Health & Beauty Awards” winning the Gold Award for Kent Aesthetic Practitioner. Well done Gillian! “I’m so pleased and proud to have won the Gold Award, being recognised for the work I do is wonderful and it also shows my clients how seriously I take my business” said Gillian. Originally training in aesthetic therapy many years ago, Gillian ensures that she keeps her skills, knowledge and awareness of all the latest developments in the

industry up to date by regularly attending conferences and continuing with her training to have the latest certifications in her specialist areas. If you read the last issue of this magazine you may remember that I had my eyebrows turned into “WoW brows” by Gillian, just one of the semi-permanent cosmetic treatments she does. I think it’s the most dramatic treatment I have undergone yet since starting these features over a year ago. I even had quite a few readers asking if they could take a closer look at my WoW brows when they say me in the High Street. I was more than happy to oblige as seeing really is believing how good they look. As well as giving my eyes a lift, it’s made it much easier to pluck my eyebrows as I have a template to follow. BEFORE - EYE BROWS

AFTER - WoW BROWS

Of course while talking about my WoW brows with readers it led to talk about the other treatments I have had done so far so here’s a recap: My adventures with Gillian began when I had semi-permanent eyeliner tattooed on my top and bottom eyelids. This has been such a time saving treatment as it’s one less thing for me to do in the mornings. It’s also particularly great when my hayfever is bad as my eyes can water as much as they like and I don’t need to worry about smudging! Semi-permanent tattoos are similiar to www.edenbridgedirectory.co.uk

The Edenbridge Directory  September/October 2015

I’ve also undergone mole removal treatments, one from above my eyebrow and one from my eyelid. These were very quick procedures indeed, again, applying the numbing cream before Gillian used her probe to zap the areas clear.

You’ll be relieved to know that Gillian doesn’t just zap at anything and everything you want removed. If she feels there could be cause for concern or is not happy with what she is seeing she will advise you to see a specialist before commencing any treatment. While many of Gillian’s clients are ladies,

Please call 01732 864 878 to feature your business

she does also have a fair share of men coming into her clinic. One of the most common treatments she does for her male clients is skin tag removal. When my husband, Russell, heard of this he was keen to have a go himself as he had a skin tag which was bothering him and wanted it gone. He was impressed with how quick and easy the whole process was and Gillian certainly knows how to put her patients at ease.

Business Feature

permanent tattoos but only last a couple of years. The process is the same but the needles used for Gillian’s tattoo treatments do not reach as deeply under the skin. You can imagine that having your eyelids tattooed it would be very sensitive and you wouldn’t want the colour to go too deep. A very effective numbing cream is always applied to the areas of skin to be treated at the start of the process.

If you would like to arrange a consultation with Gillian or book an appointment for WoW Brows or any other treatments she offers, call her on 07711 067 789 or email her at appearances4u@me.com. You can also find more at: www.appearances4u.co.uk /appearances4U @appearances4u appearances4u

The Rotary Club of Edenbridge and Westerham Formed by the merger of the Rotary Clubs of Edenbridge and Westerham the new Club now meets every Tuesday at 7pm at The Pavilion courtesy of Edenbridge Rugby Club. At the inaugural meeting President Ray Taylor thanked Rotarian Gavin Raeburn-Ward who is also Treasurer of Edenbridge Rugby Club, for working so hard to arrange matters such that Rotary can meet there every week, and for providing a storage facility there for Rotary equipment making the venue feel like home. Freshly prepared hot meals are being provided by local caterer Emma Kelly, and going by the first evening’s menu the standard and level of service is excellent. The new club will continue with the majority of events held by the two former clubs, including the Churchill commemorative Dinner held each year in Westerham and the Senior Citizens Strawberry Tea held every June in Edenbridge. Other events will include the Westerham Fair on the Green, the Edenbridge Town Quiz and a variety of fundraising events for the benefit of local, national and international charities.

President Ray is very positive about the merger of the two established clubs. “We are going forward with 35 enthusiastic members, all keen to make the amalgamation a success and to raise even more money for charity. With our later meeting time of 7pm and larger venue we are hoping to attract new members, who will be assured of a warm welcome. Most of all, we want to enjoy good fellowship with our Rotary colleagues and help the communities of Edenbridge, Westerham and all the surrounding towns and villages.” Anyone wishing to find out more about membership should contact Club Secretary Jim Burbridge on 01732 866 787 or email jimburbridge@hotmail.co.uk

September/October 2015  The Edenbridge Directory

Celebrating 10 Years of the Edenbridge Partnership recently new community events such as the Eco Fair and Apple Festival.

Forward together is the slogan on the Edenbridge Partnership logo, and this has underlined its activity for 10 years now, with the anniversary celebration coming up.

Set up in early 2006, the Partnership brings together organisations of all kinds – agencies and voluntary groups – that work with, in, and for, the community of Edenbridge, and provides co-ordination, mutual support, and the chance to combine resources for projects. Partners work together to improve the wellbeing of the town, from the environment and social cohesion, to improving transport links, developing tourism and employment opportunities. During its first 10 years, the Partnership has seen the High street refurbished, the Eden Valley Festival Fortnight established, continuation of the Community Warden role, Edenbridge Town train station project linked with the Primary School, a Business StartUp support scheme launched in 2012, and

40

Partners in the Edenbridge Partnership successfully submitted a bid to run the KCC commissioned Youth Services now based at the Eden Centre and overseen by West Kent Extra; this includes the HOUSE Project – providing activities and opportunities for young people – including programmes promoting social inclusion and employment prospects. Moving Forward The strength of the Edenbridge community is that it is large enough to make a difference but small enough to care. The Partnership is looking to build on the legacy of its first 10 years and engage with all local agencies and residents to help create and develop further initiatives. It has 20 organisations already linked up, with representatives meeting four times a year to share ideas, information, and expertise, and to update on projects’ progress. The Partnership welcomes the involvement of all interests within Edenbridge and will be looking at ways of improving communication between local organisations, and encouraging more local people to get involved in 2016.
