A Lawrence woman is dead and her grandson is in police custody after an incident late Monday night in northern Lawrence, police said. Officers were called to an apartment at 1200 George Court just before midnight Monday for a report of a stabbing, said Lawrence Police Sgt. Trent McKinley. The caller, a 16-year-old boy, told police he found his grandmother, 67-year-old Deborah Bretthauer, dead in the home. The boy had been living in the apartment with his grandmother, McKinley said, and he called police from a friend’s home in the neighborhood. When they arrived on scene, police noted obvious traumatic injuries on Bretthauer, McKinley said. The boy was taken to the Investigations and Training Center at 4820 Bob Billings Parkway for an interview, McKinley said.
