he 55th annual Downtown Lawrence Sidewalk Sale is Thursday. Massachusetts Street merchants are already getting prepared. Are you? Here is some basic information to know if you’re planning to hit the streets (or if you’re planning to avoid the area until it’s over):

Time: Sunup to sundown, though some stores will open well before the sun rises. Place: Primarily Massachusetts Street between Sixth and 11th streets. Weather: Looking very, very good. The National Weather Service forecasts partly sunny with a high of 75 degrees, though there is a chance of

rain (30 percent) after 1 p.m. Headquarters: Downtown Lawrence Inc. is at 808 Massachusetts St. Its table will have Sidewalk Sale guides and a misting machine, even though this will be one of the coolest July sales in recent memory. Hashtag: #swsale The usual tips: Wear comfortable shoes. Wear sunscreen. Prepare to be

patient with crowds. See Lawrence. com for a block-by-block breakdown of Sidewalk Sale highlights, and follow Downtown Lawrence Sidewalk Sale on Facebook (facebook.com/ swsale) for posts throughout the day. Here at the Journal-World we’ll be tweeting from sunup: @LJWorld. —By Sara Shepherd

Specific use for historic space near warehouse district and downtown to be determined soon By Chad Lawhorn @clawhorn_ljw

The developer behind the Poehler Lofts and the Warehouse Arts District in East Lawrence has reached a tentative deal to buy the historic Turnalle building at Ninth and Rhode Island streets. Developer Tony Krsnich has entered into a contract with the Lawrence Preservation Alliance to purchase the 1869 building, which is considered one of the older public buildings in the city. Now he hopes to come up with a plan in the next 60 days for how to use the building. “I’m not entirely sure yet, Krsnich but I have a lot of ideas,” Krsnich said of the property, which is just a couple blocks away from his growing Warehouse Arts District. Krsnich said he is not considering converting the building into living units. Rather, he would like to find a use that has at least some tie to when the building served as the headquarters for the local chapter of the Turnverein, a German-American social club that used the building for everything Please see HISTORIC, page 6A
