After helping Baker grow, president now retiring

‘For the love of community and the love of music’

The presidents of large state universities are usually lucky to get to know even a small fraction of their many thousands of students. On the other side of things, Baker University President Patricia Long estimates she knows about 90 percent of the names Long of her students graduating this summer. Since beginning at Baker in 2006, Long has seen students go on to become lawyers, doctors, nurses and school administrators. That, she said, has been perhaps the biggest point of pride in her time at Baker, which will come to an end this summer as she heads into retirement. Please see LONG, page 2A

For the past two weeks, reports have been swirling in Kansas that the FBI is investigating allegations of influence peddling and pay-to-play practices involving former officials in Gov.
