fter a year off, Lawrence’s OldFashioned Christmas Parade will return at 11 a.m. Dec. 4, but this time the organization will be a 501(c)(3). The designation will increase the nonprofit’s funding opportunities, making it eligible for federal,

SADDLE state and foundation grants, says Robin Dunn, vice president of the Old-Fashioned Christmas Parade.
“We’re still a nonprofit, but we just have a different lettering (that) opens us up for all kinds of
other benefits,” Dunn says. “It takes thousands to put this on every year.” Marty Kennedy, president of the board, estimates that the event requires $40,000 annually. Some of its expenses include hotel rooms for the 60-plus entrants, renting the fairgrounds arena, advertising and cleanup crew fees.
