WHITE SWAN This getup, starting with a leotard and tights, is fowl play at its best. Two pieces of felt form the head, black and orange felt finish the face, and a cape—pinned at the top or secured with Velcro—begs to be flapped. For cygnet feet, top the tights with black knee socks and shoes.

PRAYING MANTIS
Recycled cardboard is the secret to this bug’s life. Cut the head, arms, and tail out of brokendown boxes, cover them with spray adhesive and green felt, and adhere felt-covered antenna wires and plastic-sphere eyes to finish the mask (and let kids see through it). Complete the preciouspredator look with a green long-sleeve shirt, leggings, and rain boots.

RABBIT IN A HAT
For your next trick, transform a white hoodie and black footed pants into baby’s first costume. Attach ears made from white felt and millinery wire, and a clip-on bow tie. Then turn thick black felt into a top hat with leg holes, and abracadabra your bunny inside.

DANDELION
Turn plant-based drinking straws into a fluffy flower by snipping and fraying the ends and hot-gluing them to a swim cap. Add felt leaves and a green skirt to a green leotard and tights, and invite admirers to make a wish. For the how-tos and sources for each of these costumes, see page 104.
