School Sport Victoria - SSV

Lauriston Girls School is a member of School Sport Victoria and part of the Armadale District. Students who are 9/10, 11 and 12/13 years of age are eligible to compete in the competitions conducted by SSV. The competition is for students who meet the criteria for team selection in various sports.

The Association provides opportunities for students to compete at different levels depending on their capabilities and level of achievement, for example District, Division, Regional and State events. SSV offers elite Victorian students the opportunity to represent their state at School Sport Australia Championships. This national competition pathway is a fulfilling and exciting journey for those who wish to strive to better their sporting career.

Armadale District Age Groups

Trials for the various District events take place in age groups. Times are the main factor in determining who is selected for District Teams. For 2023 the ages will be determined as follows: 9/10 Years, 11 Years, and 12/13 Years. Students trial and compete in the age they are turning this year. For example, if your daughter is turning 11 on the 1st of September, she will compete as an 11 year old or if she is 9 on the 10th of March she will compete in the 9/10 age group and therefore be competing against 10 year olds.

SSV Nominations for Team Vic Selection

Each year, talented Victorian School students have the opportunity to trial for a place in the School Sport Victoria (SSV) Team Vic State team. Selected students participate in annual School Sport Australia Championships. These championships offer gifted and talented students the opportunity to participate in higher levels of sporting competition against students from other Australian States and Territories. Participation in a School Sport Victoria Team Vic state team is self-funded. As a guide, it may cost between $2,000-$3,000 to participate. Costs include uniform, host state levies, flights, transport, accommodation, and meals. Costs will vary depending on the location of the Championship. If your daughter excels in a particular sport, she may be eligible to participate in trials to be part of the 12yrs and under primary school level State team. This is not a come and try process. Nominees must be multitalented, fit and experienced performers in their chosen sport. Girls must play competitively outside school and be of an exceptional standard

For example, your daughter must be playing at the “A grade” representative level. Sport trials include; Australian Football, Basketball, Soccer, Cricket, Hockey and Netball. If your daughter is interested in trialing in one of these sports, please email Monique Stewart to discuss trial and registration possibilities. All students in this process across Victoria must be approved by the school Sports Coordinator and Principal. The Team Vic registration process can be found at www.ssv.vic.edu.au.

SSV District Carnivals

Students are given the opportunity to trial for any of the carnival events over the year. Selections will occur through both House Carnival results and trial sessions. Trial, training and carnival event information will be posted in the Lauriston News. An email will be sent to the parents of the students selected/not selected for each carnival.
