A BIG CHANGE As we begin our 32nd year in business

There is no doubt that COVID had (has?) its silver linings. And for me it was the realization that the world did not stop spinning on its axis if I didn’t work 24/7/365.

Closing Brookfield was not an easy decision, but it was the right thing to do.

The toughest part, of course, was saying goodbye to Eleonora and her dedicated staff, Lisa, Jolie, Beth, and part of our Shipping & Receiving Team, Roselen. Eleonora had poured her heart and soul into building that business, and I am eternally grateful. Ritika, who manages our Shipping & Receiving department, has moved with us to Mequon.

Since closing Brookfield in mid-January, the Mequon staff and I have put laser focus on refining the store’s offerings and streamlining and consolidating procedures.

We leased additional space in East Towne Square (Goody 2 Shooz location) for Shipping & Receiving, our Social Media team, and Accounting. WHEW! Having everything in one location feels nimble and SO. MUCH. SIMPLER. I promise you my commitment to FAYE’s remains passionate. But I’m beginning to experience something I’ve only understood in theory: work/life balance. Thank you for supporting me and FAYE’s, and I look forward to seeing you all in MEQUON.

IntoThe Closet

Above are comments we hear time and time again.

I tag team on closet consults with my colleague, Linda Lanigan, FAYE’s Head Buyer and Corporate Wardrobe Specialist.

It takes a lot for someone to let us into her private space...it is very personal.

I totally understand. If you were to see my closet your jaw would drop! I am personally attached to many of my pieces: The first expensive dress my husband bought me for our honeymoon? Yup, I still have it!

The powder blue suit I wore to my very first job interview? In there!

Who knows? It may come back in style and/or someday, it will fit again!

However for the 99% of the other items in my closet I have my colleague, Linda, whispering in my ear, and I am ok to “let go”, if need be.

I digress, but I want you to know that we walk into your closet with NO JUDGEMENT! We are sensitive to the fact there is emotion attached to some of your pieces.

I am usually the softie that lets our client hang on to the piece a little longer.

Linda has an “eagle eye” for the condition of the pieces: “Whoops – there a hole”... “Oh oh, look at that stain”...” “My gosh, this is so stretched out.”

“Totally faded!”

Not only do we assess the condition of the clothes, but whether it suits your body type? Is it in style? We also consider color – is it flattering?

The decision for each piece is to:

KEEP TOSS DONATE CONSIGN Linda takes the lead on this process, and in the end I do as I’m told and “fold the damn clothes”. (I can’t help myself – sometimes I collude with the client to sneak something back in!!!! ) After the consult, if our client is in need of pieces, we’ll work with her to complete her wardrobe so it works with her unique lifestyle.

Linda’s advice and promise: “You’re busy with your job...you do your job and let us do our job.”

“Less is more.”

“I can simplify your life.”

Lauren’s (Buyers’ Assistant) adds: “You might be the boss…but Linda is the boss of the closet.”

My parting words?

“Ok you can keep it… shhh...don’t tell Linda!”

And, of course, you know Faye’s mantra, “You don’t need a lot of clothes….you need the right clothes.”

Our new team member, Cheryl Geurts, says she often hears customers ask about fit, “How do I know if something really fits?”

Some things to watch for: If the blouse, jacket, dress has a sewn-in sleeve, the shoulder seam should hit at the outer edge of your shoulder.

Empire waist should be right under your bust; traditional waist should hit at the narrowest part of your waist.

For the most part, don’t worry about length of pants: cropped is on-trend; hitting at your shoe or breaking just a tad are a-ok, too.

Meet our new team!

D (Darlene) Chase We have known of D for almost as long as we’ve been in business. Her career spans 25 years including long-time North Shore specialty store, I See London, and stints in the corporate retail world for Gap, Inc: Gap Kids, Gap, Banana Republic.

Her grasp of all-things-retail and a passion for the customer are evident in everything she does.

We’re thrilled she’s joined our team.

D lists her greatest accomplishment as mom to four grown children and Nonna to four wonderful grandchildren.

Hobbies...Family, friends, Packers/Bucks, running, yoga, music, dancing, dog sitting, gardening...anything outside!!!

Cheryl Geurts Cheryl and her husband Doug have raised three children in the Mequon community, with their youngest child leaving them empty nesters in the not-so-distant future.

Cheryl works in the life insurance industry by day and supports our stylists a couple of afternoons a week and on weekends.

She says, “I enjoy the store energy, chatting up customers, and making work fun with the fantastic women I treasure working with. My colleagues tell me I’ve “upped my style game” since starting. It’s been easy (with everything I’ve learned on the job!).”

It’s been wonderful having Cheryl’s can-do attitude and calming presence on the floor.

Hobbies: Reformer Pilates, attending theater, and retail therapy.
