TIPS & TRICKS FOR A

Build a wardrobe that works! “What I’ve learned in ~Faye Wetzel, Founder

Keep an organized closet.

Employ the 10/10 rule: spend 10 minutes a day (or week) cleaning/ organizing OR only deal with 10 items at a time. Still sound overwhelming? OK, make it the 5/5 rule!

At the start to the season, face all your hangers to the back of the closet...after wearing, replace front-facing. At the end of the season, anything still facing back, decide to DONATE/CONSIGN/TOSS.

Too

many shoes?

Do a version of the above: put a piece of masking tape in one of each pair. When you wear the shoes, remove the masking tape. After a year (?) any shoes that have masking tape, decide to DONATE/CONSIGN/TOSS.

Organize your closet first by silhouette (pants/shirts/ jackets/dresses/skirts/etc.). Then organize by color within silhouettes, light to dark.

Never go to sleep without deciding what you’re going to wear the next day.

Try your darndest not to have wardrobe changes during the day. Multiple appointments? Choose the outfit that best suits the “dressiest” of your obligations.

LESS STRESSFUL LIFE in 34 years of helping

people get dressed.”

Keep a wrap, clutch, and dressier earrings in your car at all times.

Best desk-to-dinner hack ever!

Review your calendar for the month ahead. (For most of us, our months are a microcosm of our year.) Make sure you have something to wear that fits EVERY OCCASION…and, make sure it’s something you look forward to wearing.

If that’s not the case, go shopping! You’ll be buying something you NEED rather than another pair of black pants!

SALE shopping is fun, but a good rule is to think about 3 things in your closet you can wear with the SALE piece.

Don’t let the Really Good Deal get in the way of your better closet practices. Keep your closet in check – practice Zero Population Growth (ZPG): if you buy 2 new things, 2 pieces must go: DONATE/CONSIGN/TOSS.

Don’t be afraid of the occasional splurge.

$200 leather jacket? You’ll wear it once a week, at least 6 months out of the year. That amounts to $8.33/wearing. AND, that’s just the first year. Good clothes (craftsmanship, tailoring, fabrics) should last 3-5 years minimum.

BEST TIP of all: ONLY BUY WHAT YOU LOVE! Your closet should be a source of satisfaction and joy.

Elisabeth’s FAYE’s Experience

My fashion obsession started when I was just 5 years old. I’d take crayon to paper to design the outfits I wanted to wear each day. At 16, I worked at a local clothing boutique. It never felt like work. I realized that I wanted a career in fashion.

After studying Apparel & Merchandise at Colorado State University, I obtained internships at Marie Claire in NYC, then Urban Outfitters in London. Returning to Milwaukee, I interned as the Digital Media Editor at Milwaukee Magazine. It wasn’t long before I missed working in fashion!

In 2017, I reached out to Linda, FAYE’s head buyer, and was hired as her assistant. With over 20 years of buying and selling experience at FAYE’s, Linda has an incredibly unique perspective. She strives to know our customers on a personal level, learning their preferences, then taking that knowledge straight to market.

Working at a small company means getting the opportunity to learn, and even participate, in almost every facet of the business. With many staff members’ tenures lasting decades, these business-savvy women have so much knowledge to impart.

During COVID-19, FAYE’s had to adapt to a transformed retail climate. Our online store required more attention, and I was offered a Digital Marketing Assistant position. I was promoted to the Digital Media Manager role, which covers everything from working on the back end of our website, to managing our social media accounts, to working our out-of-store events with Faye.

I report directly to Faye. I got to know Faye on a much more personal level, and she never ceases to surprise. Spontaneous, witty, and can make any dull moment fun. (Fun fact: Faye decided, on a whim, to get an “Onward” tattoo on a beach in Ecuador!)

2025 will mark my 7th year at FAYE’s! Working alongside a close-knit group of fun, talented women who strive to make others feel confident has been beyond gratifying.

The little fashionista in me is proud!

Welcome, Lisa! Janet in Paris

Lisa joins FAYE’s after a distinguished career working in front of and behind the camera in Hollywood and in the fashion industry! Her vast creative and artistic experience makes Lisa a natural and welcome addition to our store. Hobbies: photography, painting, reading, writing, hiking and spending time with her children.

Our colleague, Janet Kalmer, returned from an August family girls’ trip to Paris. We so looked forward to her stories!

Janet writes...

The timeless Parisian fashion sense mesmerized me. Effortlessly chic long denim jeans skirts, styled with crisp white button-down shirts, paired with Golden Goose or Veja sneakers…denim jeans with white t-shirts, sleek blazers, and lightweight sweaters tied around the waist. So casual, but oh-so-chic. Dresses were elegantly paired with jean jackets and stylish sneakers, accessorized with designer handbags, of course. The exquisite fusion of Parisian elegance and timeless fashion left an indelible mark on my heart, truly making my trip a celebration of not only family but also style and sophistication. I’m usually working the floor on Saturdays, and I’d love to share and talk with you about my experience – have you been to Paris? Oh, my! Let’s chat.
