B E N E D I C T I O N. The way of the world these days is beyond comprehension.

Not able to sleep one night, I ran across this poem by Wendell Berry.

It brings some solace.

“When despair for the world grows in me and I wake in the night at the least sound in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be, I go and lie down where the wood drake rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds I come into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief. I come into the presence of still water.

And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting with their light. For a time I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.”

Pendulum Fashion, like most things, has a pendulum dynamic.

One season we’re embracing close-to-the-body knits and the next, oversized blazers are the rage.

But, if I had to sum up this season’s fashion in two words, I’d say, “Anything Goes!”.

One end of the pendulum is “loud fashion”. We came out of the pandemic embracing color and pattern, and our love affair with color and pattern has not abated.

But, the pendulum swings to the hushed sophistication of “quiet luxury”. Think monochromatic dressing: greys...winter white... a return to the ease and comfort of head-to-toe black...lush cashmere and wool..the slippery sexiness of satin. That’s quiet luxury.

So, as you take in the images of the season, keep a mental picture of your closet at the forefront. Chances are excellent you have pieces in your closet you can bring to the forefront and/or wear in different combinations.

There’s a big benefit to this “recycling” of clothes in your wardrobe.

It’s something each of us can do to reduce the significant impact the fashion industry has on the environment. From the production of textiles to the disposal of clothing, various processes in the fashion industry contribute to environmental degradation.

Certainly, we need and want you to update and evolve your wardrobes – otherwise we’re out of business, right?

But, I will preach to my last breath to buy only what you love...choose quality over quantity...take good care of your clothes and accessories…and build a wardrobe that works for your lifestyle, builds your confidence, and brings you joy!

“You don’t need a lot of clothes, you just need the right clothes”...

We need our wardrobes to work for us. Too many choices are overwhelming and add stress.

A curated closet that works...really works...for your lifestyle is an ongoing pursuit.

Seek to have something you’re happy & proud to wear every day of your life, for every occasion – be it relaxing at home or at the fundraiser gala.

Your clothes need to work for you.

Follow the trends? Sure.

As we age, it’s all the more important to stay updated. Waving the white fashion flag is an accelerated descent into frump!

These days it’s easy to stay abreast because so many fashion rules have gone by the wayside. For instance, pants can be any length and sensible shoes are having a moment.

When I say “follow the trends”, I don’t necessarily mean, “wear the trends”.

Know what’s current & look in your closet.

Everything that goes around comes around in fashion, and 100% of the time there is something in your closet every single season that you can bring to the forefront – possibly wearing in a different combination than you did last year..

Fashion does take paying attention...it does mean caring about the armor you suit up in to fight your daily battles.

Think EVOLUTION, not REVOLUTION! 6

HI, BARBIE!

Such fun at FAYE’s with our Barbie Sweepstakes and Pink Party...but most of all, with our customers who brought their Barbies and Barbie accoutrement and regaled us with stories about their relationship with their beloved dolls.

It was all a little overwhelming.

Who knew affections ran so deep?

I became a bit of a Barbie historian through it all and presented Barbie lore at the Woman’s Club of Wisconsin and Mount Mary University. Audience ages ranged from 7-90, and everyone was engaged and again, ready to share their personal Barbie lore.

The movie has surpassed the $1 billion dollar mark – something only 50 other movies have done since the beginning of cinema! Greta Gerwig’s production was a feast for the eyes wrapped around a powerful and empowering message about patriarchy and, as women, taking our rightful place on whichever stage we find ourselves.

If you haven’t seen the movie – go! Bring your tissues and bring your rage. Let’s work together to make the world a little more like Barbieland.
