DAVID BECKHAM

The Authentic Alchemist

Latitude speaks with designer Stéphane Rolland about maintaining artistic integrity and his deep cultural connection with the Middle East.

In an era when fashion is often shaped by conglomerates, how has your creative independence allowed you to preserve elements of your vision that might otherwise be diluted?

I’ve designed collections for Balenciaga and Jean-Louis Scherrer, so I deeply understand the responsibility that comes with creating for a brand under a major fashion group. It was precisely to preserve my independence that I chose to launch my own label in 2007. The responsibilities are different, sometimes even heavier, but I know that my creative DNA remains intact, and my choices are entirely my own.

Beyond the atelier, what lesser-known passions or personal experiences have quietly informed your creative world?

I’ve never hidden where my affinities lie, but it’s the encounters with artists, filmmakers, writers, singers, musicians and sculptors that are my greatest source of wealth. Creating a collection inspired by the cinematic universe of Claude Lelouch, imagining embroidery while contemplating the mosaics of Béatrice Serre, staging my shows with Pierre Martinez alongside Zahia Ziouani’s orchestra, each of these collaborations fuels my imagination and allows me to create with emotion, every single time.

Your collections have resonated strongly across the Gulf. How has cultivating a clientele in Qatar and the wider Middle East influenced your creative direction?

My relationship with the Middle East is truly special. Once again, it’s about the people, remarkable women, charismatic men; but I also believe I was influenced from an early age by the region’s cultural richness, the sensuality of its fragrances, the light of the desert and the profound reverence for tradition.

You've designed for distinguished clients worldwide. Could you share a particularly meaningful experience creating pieces for events or individuals in Qatar?

Unfortunately, I can’t reveal any of my most memorable experiences, because confidentiality is at the heart of haute couture. I have the privilege of entering the private worlds of some of the most powerful families, and my duty is to respect, protect and serve them with the utmost discretion.

STÉPHANE ROLLAND

The women I dress trust in that discretion, and the bond we share is, to me, the most precious connection.

In 2023, you launched your first bridal collection. What personal or artistic journey led you to explore bridal design at this point in your career?

Honestly, I never imagined I would ever create a bridal ready-to-wear collection, and yet it turned out to be an extraordinary experience. I’m now able to reach more women, and my goal, just as in couture, is to make each of them feel unique and joyful. Today, this collection is sold across the world, and its success fills me with joy. For someone used to the intimacy of haute couture, it’s a strange yet beautiful feeling to see images of brides I’ve dressed, women I’ve never even met.

What creative disciplines or personal memories beyond fashion are currently shaping your work?

Music, opera and cinema are all major sources of inspiration for me, but architecture and sculpture remain foundational. I still remember the overwhelming emotion I felt visiting Brasília, the former capital of Brazil designed entirely by architect Oscar Niemeyer. I’ve also been moved by the grandeur of the Great Mosque of Damascus, or even something as simple as desert dunes, which, for me, are among the world’s most breathtaking natural works of art.

As Qatar continues to establish itself as a cultural destination, what aspects of the country's art scene or creative community have you found most intriguing?

I wish to express my deep admiration for the remarkable work of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani in upholding and promoting a graceful and inspiring image of her country. Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser Al-Missned has paved the way for women and significantly advanced education. She continues to do exceptional work that touches me deeply, and following in this inspiring path, Her Excellency Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani has played a pivotal role in shaping an artistic vision for the country that resonates on a global scale. The cultural openness and progress brought to the country is remarkable; they all do exceptional work. I now await the rise of great Qatari artists, sculptors, designers and more, whose talents will soon captivate the world.

The next generation of designers is emerging globally. What qualities do you see in promising new talent, and what advice would you offer to aspiring designers in Qatar?

If I may speak candidly, one thing that concerns me is the world of social media, Instagram and the internet. These

platforms simultaneously broaden and narrow our field of vision. We are becoming a population of followers, when what the world needs most are bold creative impulses and genuine spontaneity. So, my advice to young Qatari designers is this: Stay true to yourselves, authentic, real. Carve your own path without being swayed by trends, and seek, deep within, the truth of who you are.

What aspects of your work still excite you after all these years, and what new territories are you eager to explore?

The magic of this craft lies in creating and breathing life into the imagination. What I love most is the moment a collection begins to take shape, that genesis. After so many years in haute couture, I’m now opening myself to other creative disciplines. One of them is particularly close to my heart, though I can’t reveal it just yet. It will be officially announced on July 8, the date of my next show.

For your Qatari audience deeply inspired by your artistry, what message would you like to leave them with?

Just that I love them, and that I’m endlessly grateful for their loyalty and the love they’ve shown me over all these years.

Sweet Perfection Redefined

An exclusive interview with Pierre Hermé, the legendary pastry chef known for his pioneering pursuit of flavour.

After decades of innovation, what continues to inspire your creativity, and how do you push boundaries in an art form that you have already transformed?

For me, inspiration always comes from the same sources. First, it's the products and ingredients. Second, it could be something I read, something I see, a picture, an art piece, or a conversation with somebody else - very different sources of inspiration. My guidance comes from my values, which are: audacity, differentiation and sincerity. There's also another value, in French we say “remise en question”, which means permanently questioning, never taking for granted what you make today, always changing and always innovating while concentrating on your core values.

As someone who has consistently redefined pastry boundaries, what current trends or techniques in desserts excite you most?

I don't focus on what the current trends or techniques are because I'm always concentrating on my own way - the way I want to do things. I look at what other people make, but it doesn't influence how I approach my work. I follow my own path. We have developed our own techniques and continuously work on new ones. For example, we've worked on new infusion techniques that preserve the best taste of different herbs, flowers or spices.

You've built a global empire while maintaining exceptional quality. What has been the most challenging part of preserving your artisanal standards while expanding across different cultures and markets?

From the beginning, I've always maintained the same

standards. When we had one shop, I had the same demands as now - precise written recipes with every detail documented that must be followed by the chefs who execute them. We focus on four key elements: ingredients, techniques, equipment and people's skills. We carefully select ingredients, provide the best possible equipment to pastry chefs so they can make the same cake with the same quality every day, and extensively train our people - both those who make the products and those who sell in the shops. For consistency, items like macarons and chocolates are made in France and shipped to international locations. Only the pastries are made on-site. For example, in Qatar, we have Chef Christian Boulard, who has been with us for five or six years. He's a well-trained French chef who has worked in the region for about 10 years, so he understands how to work there and manage people while being very familiar with our brand.

What recent artistic collaborations have been most meaningful to you, and how do you see the intersection of patisserie with other art forms evolving?

I don't like the word ‘collaboration’ because nowadays many companies do collaborations just to put two brands together, which makes no sense to me. What I do with artists - photographers, sculptors, painters, designers - is dialogue. We speak together and work together to create something that neither of us could achieve alone. The combination of two crafts brings something different, something that wouldn't be possible if we didn't work together. There are no rules in this - it's about conversation, sharing ideas. With some artists, I've had ongoing dialogues for 10-15 years on different subjects, which makes the work

interesting. Pastry is an artisanal craft, but when you work on creation, there's an artistic dimension to it.

The Middle East has a rich tradition of sweets. What regional delicacies have impressed or inspired you most?

I work mostly with Moroccan products and pastries. I've made cornes de gazelle and another cake called ‘M'hncha’ that is shaped like a snake. I also love the taste of orange blossom. I worked with a company to develop our own orange blossom flavour because I wanted a very pure, delicate taste and sometimes commercial orange blossom isn't precise enough.

If you were to create a collection inspired by Qatar's cultural heritage or natural landscape, what would inspire you?

I haven't created one yet, but I have strong memories from my last visit to Qatar. I went to the Museum of Islamic Art, which is beautiful, and had lunch there at Idam by Alain Ducasse - it was amazing food. The people in Qatar are very kind and hospitable. I was there for a short time. I need to come back to explore more and potentially find inspiration for Qatar-specific flavours.

You had book signings during your Qatar visit. What's happened since then with your books, and do you have upcoming projects?

Books are a way to transmit recipes to people making cakes at home or those who want to know more about pastries

and products. Book signings are opportunities to exchange with customers and fans - it's always interesting. I recently signed 70-75 books, and each person is different, making every interaction meaningful. My next book comes out in October and is called “Dictionnaire amoureux de la Patisserie” published by Plon. It's part of a large collection of over 170 titles where you can give your own interpretation of the world. Another project will feature all the dialogues I've had with artists since the first one in 1989. I hope we'll achieve this project next year.

In an era of shortened attention spans, your work invites people to pause and savour complex flavour journeys. How important is this moment of presence in your philosophy?

The work of a pastry chef is to give pleasure to people. When you eat something, it should evoke emotions and bring you joy and pleasure. For me, the most interesting thing is the experience. When you have this type of perception, it naturally makes you slow down because you appreciate and taste. If I can give a little bit of joy and pleasure, that's meaningful. I love my work.

Beyond creating moments of pleasure, what cultural significance do you believe your work carries, and what legacy do you hope to leave?

You don't decide your legacy - it's something other people decide. My only ambition, and this is why I created my own business, is to have the creative freedom to do my work the way I want to do it.

Science with a Soul

Professor Augustinus Bader discusses how his woundhealing research transformed luxury skincare and why helping children remains his true mission in life.

Your work with burn victims, particularly children, was the origin of your wound-healing breakthrough. How does it feel to see that same technology now helping people around the world through your skincare line?

Indeed, my early work with burn victims, especially children, was profoundly formative. I studied the extraordinary potential of the human body to repair itself. With the right signals and environment, self-healing can be achieved. My scientific journey has always been guided by a simple question: How does self-healing work and how can it be used as a treatment?

While the formulations used in medical settings and those in skincare are, of course, distinct and subject to very different regulatory frameworks, the guiding principles behind both are deeply connected. The skincare line was inspired by decades of research into cellular communication and skin regeneration. It’s deeply rewarding to witness how these principles, translated into high-performance skincare, can now support people around the world in maintaining more resilient skin.

By day, you're still the Director of Cell Techniques and Applied Stem Cell Biology at Leipzig University. How do you balance your academic responsibilities with pioneering a global beauty brand?

I like teaching and research. In the skincare company I had and have no operational role. I only provided the know-how and helped in developing formulations. I am planning to replace work at the university with work for my foundation’s goals more in the future.

Your patented TFC8® technology is at the heart of all your products. For our readers who are passionate about skincare science, could you explain in simple terms how this technology works to regenerate skin?

TFC8®, or Trigger Factor Complex 8, supports the skin’s natural processes of renewal. It’s made up of a blend of natural amino acids, high-grade vitamins and synthesised molecules naturally found in the skin. What makes it unique is that it helps optimise the environment for the skin to repair itself, guiding key nutrients to where they’re needed most. TFC8® works with the skin, supporting its own restorative abilities over time.

Qatari women are known for their discerning taste and appreciation for luxury products that deliver real results. How do you see your science-driven approach resonating with these sophisticated consumers who value both efficacy and exclusivity in their beauty regimens?

Women in Qatar have a deep appreciation for products that combine luxury with real performance. Our science-

driven approach resonates because it offers both: proven results through science-based research, and a refined experience rooted in quality and integrity. That’s the essence of modern luxury.

Beyond treating skin concerns, what broader medical applications do you foresee for your regenerative technology in the coming decade?

Maintenance of health and ways to achieve longevity in good health is one of the passions I have. There is a lot that can be done now from my side.

While many successful beauty brands rapidly expand their product lines, Augustinus Bader achieved billion-dollar status in just four years with a carefully curated collection. What inspired this focused approach, and how does it connect to your scientific principles of precision and effectiveness?

Minimalism is a principle in nature as well. I want to do what works only. I find it rather unfortunate that the focus falls on the billion-dollar valuation—that's not what drives me. This image does not fit me at all nor does it relate to me in any way. I am merely a biomedical scientist and technology provider without any operational involvement. This is more of a story for the investors, whom I appreciate and hope achieve the best returns, as they supported the venture.

What has been the most rewarding feedback you've received— not from celebrities or beauty editors—but from everyday people whose lives have been impacted by your work?

Helping children with skin issues are my most cherished successes still.

As both a scientist and entrepreneur, what possibilities excite you most about the future intersection of regenerative medicine and wellness? Are there breakthroughs on the horizon that we should be watching for?

I wouldn't call myself an entrepreneur—I'm simply a biomedical scientist who provided the technology. I haven't taken any personal financial returns from the skincare venture. Instead, I've reinvested all my personal stakes in progressing the medical side and one day hope to be able to support more the foundation I created in 2010 to help children with thermal injuries.

One project at the intersection of regenerative medicine and wellness is health extension and longevity. I am personally very interested in this. Of course, personalised and precision medicine is a future topic as well.

Evening wear embraces the transformative power of light and texture

JENNY PACKHAM
TONY WARD

This season's most coveted evening wear celebrates the subtle art of luminosity, where designers draw on the transformative power of light-catching detail. Tony Ward's Of Silk and Steel collection captures this philosophy, pairing silks with rich metallics in constant tension between light and shadow, while Saiid Kobeisy draws inspiration from the enigmatic beauty of arctic horizons and vintage charm, blending serene tones with exquisite artistry.

The movement towards tonal sophistication allows craftsmanship to take centre stage. Georges Hobeika balances strength with refined detailing, and AZZI & OSTA pair architectural silhouettes with sheer lace elements that catch the light beautifully. Heritage-inspired embellishment finds new expression at Naeem Khan, while Jenny Packham celebrates modern glamour through clean silhouettes enlivened with unapologetic indulgence. Monique Lhuillier channels New York chic with Art Deco-inspired designs featuring shimmering sequins, and Pamella Roland’s liquid metallic finishes capture London's regal energy through architectural motifs.

Cascading embellishment amplifies the radiance this season, as seen at Reem Acra, where a tiered beaded column dress creates high impact, and at Oscar de la Renta, whose golden textured fringe dress is an incredible showstopper. From Safiyaa's constellation-like embellishments to Rhea Costa's bronze metallic draping and Sabina Bilenko's subtle tonal embroidery, each piece captures that perfect golden hour moment—when light transforms the ordinary into something extraordinary.

CHANEL celebrates ancient artistry with luxurious craft

As twilight descended over West Lake in Hangzhou, CHANEL unveiled its 2024/25 Métiers d'art collection—a dreamlike voyage connecting Paris to this historic Chinese city. The collection draws profound inspiration from antique Coromandel screens, the exquisite Chinese lacquered panels featuring intricate landscapes and decorative motifs that Gabrielle Chanel cherished in her apartment at 31, rue Cambon. One such screen, depicting scenes of everyday life against the backdrop of Hangzhou's West Lake, creates a poetic symmetry with the very location chosen for this presentation.

For 2024/25, the Métiers d'art collection embraces mystery and refinement—long, shouldered coats in precious

tweeds and velvet, straight-cut jackets belted at the waist and tuxedos lined in white satin create silhouettes of timeless elegance. Floral camellia and lotus motifs, direct references to Mademoiselle's beloved screens, adorn suits and dresses with exquisite detail.

The accessories tell their own compelling story within this narrative. Travel bags and vanity cases emerge as sophisticated companions, embodying the collection's nomadic spirit, while multiple graphic pockets featuring on bags evoke the intimacy of correspondence with their envelope-like forms. The footwear collection presents a study in artisanal virtuosity—gleaming thigh boots and pointed slippers in black patent leather make a dramatic

statement, while exquisitely crafted mid-calf boots by Massaro echo those favoured by Gabrielle Chanel herself. Medallions and cuffs draw inspiration from flowers, fruits (a tribute to ancient Chinese prunus), and the texture of antique earthenware objects. The poetic quality extends to cloud-shaped pearl necklaces and pillow handbags, transporting wearers into what the House describes as “the cushioned douceur of the dream world”. This sophisticated dialogue between East and West culminates in pieces that transcend seasons and celebrate the timeless allure of exceptional craftsmanship.

The Art of Love

Gowns that transform brides into walking masterpieces

This season's bridal collections blur the boundaries between fashion and fine art, creating gowns that function as wearable canvases. Designers are drawing inspiration directly from artistic movements and masters—Ines Di Santo channels Renaissance drama through her ‘living paintings’ approach, while Georges Hobeika translates Monet's Giverny gardens into intricate embroidered florals.

The result is romantic maximalism at its finest. Viktor&Rolf's avant-garde bow drapes and floral paillettes create sculptural statements, while Tony Ward transforms love itself into fabric through cascading embroideries

and dramatic silhouettes. Monique Lhuillier's Victorianinspired pieces feature wild botanical prints with 3D butterflies that seem to flutter off the gown. Naeem Khan contributes nature-inspired textures that bring impeccable artistry to silhouettes, while Mark Ingram's refined designs add exquisite Made in Italy craftsmanship to the artistic narrative.

Each gown tells a story through texture, proportion and theatrical beauty. This movement celebrates the bride as both muse and masterpiece, ensuring she makes an unforgettable statement on her most important day.

The New Neutrals

Warm brown and rich burgundy are redefining elegance this season

In the cooler months, fashion is embracing a warmer, more grounding palette as chocolate brown claims its moment as the colour of now. Pantone's 2025 Colour of the Year, Mocha Mousse, perfectly captures a collective desire for comfort and authenticity. This rich, warming hue speaks to a cultural shift toward meaningful living and cosy sophistication that resonates deeply in a fast-paced world.

While burgundy isn't entirely new—having emerged strongly last year—it's now solidifying its position as fashion's new essential, earning its place alongside black as a wardrobe staple. This deep, jewel-toned red also embodies a comforting warmth, while offering timeless elegance with contemporary relevance.

Both colours work beautifully together, creating sophisticated monochromatic looks or serving as rich foundations for layering. The styling possibilities are endless: think chocolate brown tailoring with burgundy accessories, or burgundy outerwear over neutral brown basics. More than simply seasonal colours, these are investment shades that transcend trends while delivering the elevated everyday aesthetic that modern fashion craves. With these new neutrals offering the perfect balance of sophistication and comfort, there is proof that true style lies not in pursuing the novel, but in reimagining the classic with contemporary confidence.

CHANCE ENCOUNTER

Purple reigns in CHANEL’s new Eau Splendide

The relationship between Gabrielle Chanel and serendipity ran deep, with her belief that chance was her soul, infusing her approach to both life and fashion. This philosophy of embracing unexpected opportunities eventually inspired a family of fragrances that would capture this spirit in scent.

When the first CHANCE perfume debuted in 2003, it arrived in a distinctively round bottle—a deliberate departure from CHANEL's iconic rectangular flacons. The collection expanded gradually, each interpretation expressing a different facet of fortune through colour and composition: a spirited green EAU FRAÎCHE, delicate pink EAU TENDRE, and vibrant orange EAU VIVE.

Spring 2025 welcomes the newest member of this olfactory family. CHANCE EAU SPLENDIDE arrives dressed in purple—that complex hue long associated with mystery

and nobility. Upon first spray, EAU SPLENDIDE reveals its character through contrasts. A sparkling raspberry note provides immediate brightness, while rose and violet add sophisticated floral dimensions. Those familiar with CHANEL's commitment to sourcing will appreciate that rose geranium from the house's own Grasse fields forms the fragrance's heart. The drydown reveals enticing depth: cedar notes provide structure while white musk ensures longevity. A whisper of powdery iris adds that quintessential CHANEL sophistication, creating a composition that feels simultaneously playful and refined. For collectors of the CHANCE series, EAU SPLENDIDE completes a spectrum. For newcomers, it offers an entrance into one of perfumery's most thoughtfully developed fragrance families, one where the unpredictable becomes opportunity and wearing fragrance transforms into a daily declaration that destiny favours those courageous enough to seize it.

ESCAPE ROUTES

How master perfumers are capturing the soul of destinations in liquid form

The alchemy of scent knows no borders. Where maps end, fragrance begins—summoning memories, evoking landscapes and crafting presence from the intangible. In the hands of master perfumers, scent becomes a form of emotional cartography, charting journeys not through geography, but through feeling and imagination.

Paris, naturally, remains perfumery’s eternal muse. Fragrance du Bois celebrates the city with Voyage à Paris, a gourmand perfume that carries its wearer from the patisseries of Saint-Germain to the boutiques of Rue Saint-Honoré. Mémoires D’amour takes its tribute skyward: Ciel de Paris offers a poetic olfactory impression of sunset clouds drifting over the rooftops, rendered in tuberose and patchouli.

Travel through scent can also be a voyage through time. Vilhelm Parfumerie’s Stockholm 1978 revives Sweden’s golden disco age with aldehydic sparkle and the light of endless Nordic summers. CHANEL’s Paris–Édimbourg retraces Coco Chanel’s footsteps through her beloved Scottish Highlands. Juniper berry and cypress meet smoky vetiver, evoking vast green moors and mirrored lochs—a fragrance full of the same enigmatic contrasts as Coco herself. Clive Christian’s Town & Country bridges eras in England, elevating a 1925 classic, once worn by Winston Churchill, with fresh herbs and deep countryside elegance.

Contemporary perfumers each approach the notion of place in their own way—some distil emotion, others

capture physical presence. Alfred Ritchy’s Anatolia transforms the surreal topography of Cappadocia into pure elation, via mandarin, incense and amber. Ella K’s Pluie sur Ha Long uses pioneering Scent Trek® technology to quite literally bottle the sensation of Vietnam’s iconic bay, evoking tropical rain on limestone cliffs.

NEW MODELS 2025

IMAGINATION IN MOVEMENT

Rolex unveils its new watches, conceived by the perpetually active imagination that imbues the entire manufacture. From the movements to cases and bracelets, from design to the choice of materials, the latest creations offered by Rolex attest to visionary achievements in watchmaking that pave the way to new horizons.

THE LAND-DWELLER OPENING NEW HORIZONS

Rolex begins a new chapter in its history with the Oyster Perpetual Land-Dweller. This watch is powered by a revolutionary calibre – a movement that was designed to beat at the high frequency of 5 hertz and be highly performant.

THE GMT-MASTER II THE PERFECT MATCH

Rolex introduces its very first ceramic dial on an 18 ct white gold version of the Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II. In the same material, with the same green colour and the same lustre, this Cerachrom dial and the daytime half of the green and black bezel insert echo each other perfectly.

THE PERPETUAL 1908 THE GEOMETRY OF ELEGANCE

Rarely has solid gold felt so supple and light on the wrist. The Perpetual 1908 in 18 ct yellow gold is now available on a bracelet fashioned entirely in this precious metal. An innovative geometry endows this seven-piece link bracelet with refinement and comfort in all-round elegance.

THE COSMOGRAPH DAYTONA BOLD CONTRAST

The Cosmograph Daytona dons a turquoise blue lacquer dial paired with bright black counters. The rich colours set against the precious 18 ct yellow gold of the case and the technical characteristics of the Oysterflex bracelet offer a remarkably refreshing combination.

THE GMT-MASTER II AN EXCLUSIVE ALLIANCE

The GMT-Master II in 18 ct Everose gold with a Cerachrom bezel insert in brown and black ceramic is now available with a dial in tiger iron. This natural stone, used by Rolex for the first time, is characterized by its complex structure. A painstaking selection and meticulous assembly have harmoniously matched it with the colours of the Oyster case and bracelet.

THE SKY-DWELLER VIBRANT REFLECTIONS

For the first time, the Sky-Dweller brings together two of the brand’s iconic colours, juxtaposing a sunray-finished, bright green dial with a case and bracelet in 18 ct yellow gold. This radiant dial together with the resplendent reflections from the fluted bezel and Jubilee bracelet result in an exceptionally exuberant watch.

THE OYSTER PERPETUAL A FRESH LOOK

A muted lavender, a warm sandy beige and a fresh pistachio green. The Oyster Perpetual is graced with new faces in an array of colours that celebrate the meeting of pastel shades, vibrant lacquering and a smooth, matt finish.

THE DATEJUST LIGHT AND SHADE

The red ombré dial of the new Oyster Perpetual Datejust 31 presents a subtle transition between the fire at its centre and a deep darkness at its edge – a chiaroscuro enhanced by the sparkling diamonds set on the bezel and dial.

Bold Horizons

TUDOR's new releases master precision and depth

Heritage melds with cutting-edge innovation in TUDOR's latest collection, offering timepieces that embody the brand's ‘Born To Dare’ ethos while setting formidable new benchmarks in horological excellence.

Revered among enthusiasts worldwide, the Black Bay 58 emerges transformed with prestigious Master Chronometer certification from Switzerland's METAS. The new all-burgundy edition preserves its perfect 39 mm proportions while debuting, for the first time, a sophisticated 5-link bracelet option with TUDOR's ingenious T-fit rapid adjustment system.

Commanding attention with its bold 43 mm profile, the entirely new Black Bay 68 answers the demand for diverse case sizes to accommodate all wrist types. Available in silver or striking TUDOR Blue dials, this addition isn't merely about increased dimensions—it carries Master Chronometer certification, ensuring chronometric precision even under the most challenging conditions.

Engineered to conquer the ocean's twilight zone, the Pelagos Ultra reigns as the most technically capable

Pelagos ever crafted. With extraordinary water resistance to 1,000 metres housed within a 43mm titanium case, its dial features dual-colour luminescence—blue and green— ensuring critical information remains visible in abyssal darkness. A proprietary bracelet adjustment system with luminous indicators completes this exceptional diving instrument.

Dramatic visual contrast defines the returning Black Bay Pro with its distinctive opaline dial, where ceramic hour markers outlined in black dramatically enhance legibility during expeditions. This same philosophy of visual distinction carries through to the Black Bay Chrono, which celebrates five decades of precision timekeeping with a reworked case and two boldly contrasting dial options—matt black with silver counters or opaline with black counters—now available with either 3-link or 5-link bracelet options, both featuring the practical T-fit clasp.

Unwavering confidence in these robust companions for modern adventurers manifests in TUDOR's five-year transferable guarantee—requiring no registration and demanding no periodic maintenance checks. 1.

BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY

Boucheron revisits its iconic serpent with modern brilliance

Nearly sixty years after Serpent Bohème first enchanted the world in 1968, Boucheron invites connoisseurs to rediscover its origins through a contemporary lens. Like all enduring designs, this serpentine motif transcends fleeting trends—its essence remains eternally captivating while continuously evolving to reflect changing times.

When Claire Choisne, Boucheron's Creative Director, discovered a distinctive sautoir necklace with a flower pendant in the Maison's archives, she was immediately drawn to its character. Created in 1974, the piece embodied the exuberant, uninhibited spirit of that era—a treasure waiting to be reinterpreted for today's collectors. This encounter has now blossomed into Serpent Bohème Vintage, a collection that masterfully weaves Boucheron's storied past with contemporary sophistication.

The collection honours its predecessor while embracing innovation. The original links from the 1974 necklace have been thoughtfully reworked and streamlined, while the coloured cabochon-cut onyx and coral stones have transformed into brilliant-cut diamonds in pearshaped motifs.

What distinguishes this collection is its remarkable versatility. The convertible necklaces transform with effortless grace into shorter pendants, statement brooches or pairs of bracelets that join to form elegant chokers. The creation of two-finger rings that extend dramatically across the hand is another nod to contemporary sensibilities while maintaining the collection's timeless allure.

The artisans at Boucheron employ techniques perfected over generations to bring these pieces to life. Each creation features the Maison's signature beading technique— surrounding the drop motif with minute gold spheres—while a honeycomb pattern beneath the diamonds allows light to dance through the stones, enhancing their natural radiance. Complementing the Vintage creations, Boucheron has simultaneously unveiled four additional Serpent Bohème creations: two timepieces, a Solarité bracelet with signature drop shapes arranged around the wrist, and ankle chains in two distinctive designs—all embodying the collection's enduring elegance.

Ahead of the CURVE

Quatre is reimagined with architectural brilliance

In a daring evolution of Boucheron's emblematic Quatre collection, the renowned Maison introduces Quatre Classique Tube—a striking reinvention that celebrates the line's 20-year heritage while propelling it firmly into the future. Under Claire Choisne's visionary direction, the collection's four signature motifs now interplay with polished gold tubes in a sculptural triumph of form and craftsmanship.

The collection's pièce de résistance, an oversized torque necklace, exemplifies this architectural approach, its tubular silhouette dramatically anchored by the Quatre motif cleverly concealing the clasp at its centre. A breathtaking high jewellery interpretation in white gold elevates the concept to new heights—its tube paved with grain-set diamonds and each motif reimagined through specific diamond cuts, totalling nearly 99 carats of brilliance.

The angular bracelet and double-finger ring are equally commanding in their presence. The bracelet's geometric form hides its clasp within the central four-pattern motif, while the double-finger ring features two tubes of polished yellow gold through which the four Quatre patterns appear to have slid, coming to rest at the centre of the hand—a mesmerising feat of both design innovation and craftsmanship that transforms the hand into a living sculpture. This profoundly modern interpretation of Boucheron's iconic Quatre design language not only honours the Maison's storied heritage but affirms its position at the vanguard of contemporary high jewellery design—where architecture meets adornment in perfect harmony.

Into the Blue and Beyond

CHANEL transforms time with colour, craft and couture

In a striking display of creative vision and technical mastery, CHANEL's 2025 watch releases take luxury watchmaking to new frontiers. In a celebration of the quarter-century milestone of its now iconic J12 ceramic timepiece, the Maison presents an entirely new hue – a profound blue that required five years of meticulous research and development. Neither quite black nor fully blue, this sophisticated shade represents the culmination of CHANEL's expertise in ceramic craftsmanship.

The J12 BLEU collection offers nine interpretations of this chromatic achievement, including versions in 38mm and 33 mm with self-winding Manufacture movements. Among the exceptional pieces is the J12 BLEU DIAMOND TOURBILLON WATCH, featuring a flying tourbillon magnified by a 65-facet solitaire diamond, and the breathtaking J12 BLEU X-RAY, crafted from blue sapphire crystal requiring over 1600 hours of work. Several models are enhanced with bright blue sapphires, including the J12

BLEU 38 MM SAPPHIRES WATCH, whose bezel and indicators are illuminated by 58 meticulously selected gemstones.

This colour innovation extends to the MONSIEUR SUPERLEGGERA BLEU EDITION, a sports-inspired creation limited to 100 pieces. The timepiece showcases CHANEL's proprietary Caliber 1 movement with its distinctive jumping hour and retrograde minute complications, now housed in a case of the same exceptional blue ceramic.

Colour also dazzles in a tribute to another universe mastered by Gabrielle Chanel, with the CHANEL BLUSH WATCH CAPSULE COLLECTION translating the visual vocabulary of CHANEL's legendary cosmetics into horological art. Free and daring, this collection instils a powerful energy across all CHANEL watch families, from J12 to PREMIÈRE, BOY and CODE

For connoisseurs of high jewellery watches, the J12 RIVER DIAMONDS offerings represent the height of gem-setting expertise. The 38 mm version features 630 precisely aligned baguette-cut diamonds totalling over 33 carats, while its 33 mm counterpart dazzles with 1661 brilliant-cut diamonds. Each stone is meticulously set to create an uninterrupted flow of light across the timepiece.

The house's emblematic lion, Gabrielle Chanel's zodiac sign, appears in a collection of sculptural timepieces, including the TOI&MOI RING WATCH THE LION OF MADEMOISELLE, which features twin leonine profiles framing a diamond-set dial – a wearable work of art that embodies the spirit of Mademoiselle Chanel herself.

CHANEL's watchmaking heritage is further enriched through reinterpretations of its iconic PREMIÈRE watch. The PREMIÈRE GALON introduces a bracelet inspired by the couture braid trims that structured Gabrielle Chanel's legendary suits, while the PREMIÈRE ICONIC CHAIN reimagines the classic chain bracelet with new proportions and wearing possibilities.

Through these collections, CHANEL continues to redefine the boundaries of horological artistry–seamlessly integrating technical innovation with artistic vision while remaining true to the timeless elegance that has defined the House for over a century.

Harmonious Excellence

How Yamaha Music School is nurturing Qatar's musical talent

For seven decades, Yamaha Music School has cultivated musical excellence across the globe. With 750,000 students and 20,000 teachers spanning 6,400 locations worldwide, it has produced countless award-winning musicians, composers and performers who've shaped the international music scene.

When Yamaha chose Doha to host its global 70th anniversary celebration last November, it recognised something special happening here. Indeed, Yamaha Music School Doha has earned its reputation as the leading musical institution in the Gulf, with local partner Fifty One East recently recognised as the 'Best Yamaha Music School Operator in the Middle East and Africa'.

Since opening in 2013, the Doha branch has become deeply woven into Qatar's cultural landscape. The school follows

Yamaha's renowned ten-year curriculum, developing students through performance, composition and creative expression. Under the leadership of Supervisor Angy Ammoun, a Lebanese soprano and finance graduate who brings both artistic sensibility and strategic vision to the role, the school has continuously evolved its programmes to meet students' changing needs.

Behind this success stands an exceptional faculty of international educators. German Faig brings twenty years' experience from Argentina, having claimed first place at the Generación XXI Piano Competition. Cuban composer Gabriel Martinez infuses classical training with contemporary innovation, whilst fellow Cubans Emanuel Travieso and Oidel Cruz, both Havana National School of Art graduates, specialise in accessible technique and rock guitar respectively. Violin instructor Cynthia

Nakata, also Cuban-trained, performed with the National Symphony Orchestra and blends Baroque mastery with modern influences.

The results speak volumes. Recently, students Vadim Morin and Julien Torfeh claimed first and second prizes respectively at the Charleston International Music Competition—testament to the world-class instruction available here. The programmes accommodate all ages, from three-year-olds discovering rhythm through group sessions to teenagers mastering piano, violin, guitar and drums in individual classes. This combination of global expertise and local dedication continues building Qatar's musical future, one student at a time.

When raw power calls, rock royalty finds its voice in the Gibson Slash "Victoria" Les Paul Standard. Where power meets finesse, blues sophistication lives in the Fender Eric Clapton Stratocaster, with Vintage Noiseless pickups, active midboost circuitry and Clapton's signature soft V-shaped neck. This bridge between electric expression and refined technique speaks to guitarists who value both emotion and precision.

Yamaha has a massive global presence, reliable across beginner to professional levels, and is important in both acoustic and electric markets. LATIN MOSAIC

Where art bridges continents and cultures

In National Museum of Qatar, Frida Kahlo's penetrating gaze meets the eyes of Doha's cultural connoisseurs. This unexpected encounter marks a watershed moment—the first major presentation of Latin American art in the Middle East and North Africa, a centrepiece of Qatar's most ambitious Year of Culture yet.

The LATINOAMERICANO exhibition, which was unveiled by Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani in late April, presents approximately 170 works by over 100 visionaries—from Diego Rivera's vibrant Baile en Tehuantepec to Fernando Botero's characteristically rotund El viudo—representing a cultural pilgrimage across nine Latin American nations, crafting a narrative of heritage, memory and identity.

Outside, Marta Minujín's dreamlike inflatable installation invites visitors to experience Latin America's playful imagination—a striking yet harmonious contrast against Qatar's architectural precision. This juxtaposition forms the heart of Qatar, Argentina and Chile 2025 Year of Culture, a celebration that defies geography to find unexpected parallels between distant worlds.

“We aim to strengthen mutual understanding and highlight shared values that unite our peoples,” notes His Excellency Guillermo Nicolás, Argentina's Ambassador to Qatar. His Chilean counterpart, Patricio Díaz Broughton, speaks of establishing “lasting people-topeople connections” that “transcend borders”.

The inauguration itself became a journey through Latin America’s arts—Clara Trio's haunting Argentinian folkloric melodies mingled with the rhythmic footwork of Chile's Cueca dancers, while the deliberate movements of Argentina's Zamba created a mesmerising dialogue with Vicente Allende's flamenco-influenced guitar.

Beyond the exhibition, which runs until 19 July, the Year of Culture promises a kaleidoscope of experiences—from tango performances to cinematic showcases, culinary adventures to artistic residencies—each designed to weave Qatar's cultural fabric with Latin America's vibrant threads.

As Qatar Museums' international curator Issa Al Shirawi and Malba's chief curator María Amalia García have demonstrated through their thoughtful curation of LATINOAMERICANO, cultural exchange offers new perspectives and understanding. In this elegant dialogue between Qatar and Latin America, artistic traditions find common ground and mutual appreciation.

Crafting Cultural Legacies

Qatar joins Venice's Giardini with a visionary pavilion by Lina Ghotmeh

When a nation secures a permanent place within the hallowed grounds of Venice's Giardini, home to the city’s Biennale Art Festival, it inscribes itself into the global cultural narrative. Qatar's forthcoming pavilion therefore represents a profound distinction—only the third addition to the prestigious gardens in more than five decades. This architectural statement, designed by Lebanese-born visionary Lina Ghotmeh, signals Qatar's commitment to cultural dialogue that transcends generations.

“Qatar will join the great chorus of nations in the Giardini, where architecture becomes diplomacy, and beauty speaks peace,” stated Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani during a ceremonial marking of the site in May. “Our Pavilion will be a home for exchange, for wonder, for the world — a place to engage in multiple dialogues that foster peace and inspire understanding”.

Selected through an international competition, Ghotmeh’s work was praised by Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa for “inspiring new and traditional audiences with its sensitivity to the human condition and its confident, innovative flair. Lina has a worldview and sensibility that has grown from her native Lebanon to reach across cultures”. As Ghotmeh herself explained at the site ceremony, “The question of hospitality is at the centre of the design... It is about how a place can embrace people and allow these encounters, especially at this location, which is really at the heart of the Giardini.”

Already, Qatar has initiated its cultural dialogue in Venice. In May, it unveiled Beyti Beytak. My Home is Your Home. La mia casa è la tua casa during the 19th International Architecture Exhibition, featuring a temporary bamboo Community Centre by architect Yasmeen Lari at the future pavilion site—a powerful statement on sustainability and cultural exchange.
