As part of an improvement scheme at its south-west London depot, a UK bus company decided to streamline the garage’s chemical storage and dispensing station and make cleaning processes more efficient. For a complete solution, the operator sought the expertise of cleaning and hygiene specialist SEKO.
In an industry and a city where bus route contracts are as lucrative as they are competitive, the operator was dedicated to building and maintaining a positive brand image in order to attract more people to use its transport.
Management understood that this meant ensuring that the windows, floors, panels and handles of their buses – used by thousands of travellers every day – were kept clean and free of graffiti for every service.
This was a considerable challenge when considering the depot’s multiple day, night and school routes and the varying condition the vehicles would return in depending on the service and time of day.
Along with its fleet, the operator required solutions for cleaning the depot itself –specifically floors (pollution, debris and rubber deposits from tyres) and inspection/ washdown pits (heavy grime and grease).
With cleaning staff facing time constraints due to the fast turnaround of vehicles, the operator was looking for chemical dispensers that could dilute and deliver cleaning solutions with speed, accuracy and reliability.
Following a consultation with the SEKO team, including assessment of available space and water connections, it was recommended to install three 5-litre SekureMax chemical storage cabinets and a ProMax multi-product dilution and dispensing unit.
The lockable SekureMax unit safely stores up to five litres of chemical and can be supplied with customized branding to aid with product identification or display safety information.
“SEKO removed the need for manual dosing and staff exposure to concentrated chemicals”
Multiple cleaning solutions to cover every surface
ProMax connects directly to a water supply and, via the push of a button, can deliver precisely-diluted chemical at up to 30 litres per minute courtesy of a range of metering tips.
Because both systems incorporate SEKO’s own mounting bracket system, installation was quick, simple and virtually tool free.
With the concentrated chemicals stored in SekureMax cabinets and connected directly to the ProMax unit, users could simply choose their desired solution via the selection dial to quickly dispense diluted chemical into spray bottles, mop buckets and scrubber dryers.
By enabling the precise quantity of chemical to be automatically diluted and dispensed at the push of a button, SEKO helped the customer minimize consumption, remove the need for manual dosing and protect staff from exposure to concentrated chemicals.
“The operator was dedicated to building a positive brand image”
While ProMax delivered consistent, reliable performance, the robust SekureMax cabinets kept chemicals stored safely and tidily with the system’s modularity allowing for additional units to be added quickly and easily as the user’s requirements changed.
With the ideal combination of ProMax and SekureMax, the bus company found the perfect cleaning solution, whether cleaning bus interiors, windows, the inspection pit or the depot floor.
Another example of a SEKO solution helping customers achieve long-term, cost-effective improvements in their daily operations.

“The systems minimized chemical use and protected staff”
As a family-owned business, we are acutely aware that we have a responsibility to leave a lasting legacy and that positive actions we take today benefit us and future generations.
We firmly believe that sustainability isn’t something to do once in order to tick a box.
It’s a constant process that requires dedication and tenacity to overcome the challenges presented by an ever-changing business and environmental landscape.
Having operated under the Kaizen business principle of continuous improvement for decades, SEKO is well positioned to fully commit to sustainable practice in everything we do.
We’re committed for the long term and we do it not because it’s an obligation, but because it’s the right thing to do.
Alessandro Folio (President) and Stefano Folio (CEO)At SEKO, we are committed to creating products that minimise chemical, water and energy consumption and reduce wastage. It’s at the heart of everything we do for our customers.
It’s not only about the process, though. Every component used in our systems is chosen with care and consideration and we always ask ourselves the difficult questions: What is the environmental impact of this part during production, use and disposal, and how can we reduce it?
By designing high-quality, long-lasting products with minimal consumable parts and using responsiblysourced parts that are recyclable wherever possible, we not only reduce our own carbon footprint but also help our customers to minimise waste and achieve their own sustainability targets.
As a long-time champion of IoT and data on demand, we invest in the latest technology to connect users to their systems remotely and help them vastly reduce their travel requirement.
Since 2017, we have transformed our internal packaging by replacing polystyrene sheets and blocks with item-specific FSC-approved cardboard, allowing customers to recycle all waste after delivery.
All this is achieved as we work in accordance with the internationally recognised ISO 14001 management system for environmental compliance, ensuring we always operate to the latest legislation.
PeopleTo us, corporate sustainability extends beyond the environment to our responsibility towards the people we employ and serve. With the human aspect of business forever in view, we treat customers and staff with respect, honesty and trust at all times.
The global influence of our next-generation products would not be possible without the rich blend of ideas, opinions and innovations brought by a workforce of more than 1,500 professionals from a diverse range of cultures and backgrounds across six continents.
And with a non-hierarchal approach that means every member of the SEKO team is equally valued for their contribution, we foster a positive, inclusive working environment in which each person can thrive, develop their skills and take pride in their work.
