PERACETIC ACID MONITORING IN WASTEWATER TREATMENT
When utility company Hera required a monitoring solution for a new-build wastewater treatment plant, they turned to Chemitec for a dedicated solution.
The plant is based in Castel San Pietro Terme, south-east of Bologna in northern Italy, where the client planned to use peracetic acid (PAA) for the final disinfection of water following the biological treatment and sedimentation processes.
PAA is well known as an excellent disinfectant and is widely used in wastewater treatment. However, it must be closely controlled when used in concentration to ensure that levels are safe prior to discharge.
With the customer needing a proven system to monitor the residual concentration value of PAA after the secondary treatment, they approached Chemitec to recommend an analysis instrument from its world-leading range.

After a comprehensive assessment of the process and in-depth discussion with the customer, Chemitec’s expert team recommended its 4001 multiparameter photometric analyzer and sampling filtering system as the ideal solution for this on-line application.
The 4001 is a cabinet-mounted system that includes advanced software within an intuitive interface and automatic calibration at each measuring cycle, making the system one of the most user-friendly solutions of its kind.
The 4001 system was selected for its suitability for dosing disinfectants such as chlorine and PAA along with its capacity to control the full process and prevent excessive dosing, which was essential for the management of PAA levels.
