This is a one-year full-time programme that provides learners with a broad introduction to marketing, economics and accounting combined with intensive training in IT and computerised accounts.

Why should I apply for this course? Learners will also gain a strong introduction to the three main business subjects - Economics, Marketing and Accounting. Graduates of the course may go directly into employment or progress to third level education.

Because of the broad practical nature of the course, it is often used a “gap-year” course to hone students’ IT and academic writing skills.

What will I study? The Business with IT Course consists of the following modules*: • Bookkeeping Manual and Computerised (Sage) • Applied Economics • Business Administration • Retail Selling • Spreadsheet Methods • Digital Marketing Processing • Word Processing • Customer Service • Work Experience * Modules subject to change

Progression Options Here are examples of courses students can progress to on successful course completion: Entry Requirements Applicants should be of Leaving Certificate Standard or have achieved an Applied Leaving Certificate with Distinction. Portlaoise Institute welcomes applications from mature students. Mature students are assessed on their merits and do not require the above qualifications.

All applicants are required to complete an assessment and interview before commencing a Further Education course in Portlaoise Institute. This assessment confirms if the student has the required level of English to complete a Level 5 course.
