Copy of A Window Into Outdoor pages 44 - 45
Sheets of paper
Pencils, coloured pencils, or pens.
Glue sticks
Craft supplies
Board game template worksheet for those who might require additional support or inspiration

Activity Instructions
1 Introduction: “Today we are going to be talking about Veterinary Nursing. How many of you have a pet?” Get the pupils to tell you what types of pets they have.
2.“How many of you with pets help to look after them? What types of things do you do?” Write the answers on the board. Veterinary Nursing is a very varied role.
3.“Is there anything you see other people doing when caring for their pets?” Write the answers on the board. Prompt the students to think about the following things pets need:
Well balanced diet
Fresh water
Safe place to sleep
Exercise
Grooming
Vet visits
Vaccinations
Physical activity
Mental stimulation
Training
Social interaction
Bonding time
Following the rules - picking up the poop.
4.Ask the pupils to read pages 44 - 45 of A Window into Outdoors.
5 “An important part of working in veterinary nursing is educating pet owners on how to correctly look after their pets.”
6.Activity: Create A Board Game. Split the pupils into pairs or small teams
7 Instructions:
“I want you all to think about everything we discussed as a class that you need to look after a pet.”
“In your pairs/small groups I would like you to design and make your board game using the craft supplies provided ”
Your board game MUST be aimed at pet owners and must educate them on how to best care for either pets in general or a specific pet.
Wrap-Up: Once the pupils are finished have them show their games to the rest of the class and explain why they built them and what they learned about looking after animals. If there is time let them try playing each other’s games.
