Don Byerly GENERAL MANAGER & COO
It’s hard to believe, but we have almost made it through another winter and can all see that spring is right around the corner. This winter has been especially busy for our management team and myself with carrying out capital projects and planning the programs that will lead to another amazing year of activity for all of our members and guests to enjoy. We are excited to execute on our planning and preparation for the year and will strive to exceed your expectations.
I am a firm believer that our management team and I must keep our foot on the gas pedal in regards to training, improving processes, and planning in the off-season to accomplish a very successful peakseason. Our leadership team and entire staff are dedicated and focused on providing you and your guests high quality experiences each time you visit the Club. Whether it’s in the clubhouse, on the golf course, at the pool, or on the tennis/pickleball courts, we need to, and we will do better. So, in addition to living the DGC Mission, our Club's management and staff will embrace the guiding principle of “Continuous Improvement”, two simple words that carry a lot of weight. Please continue to let us know when we do well, and where we can improve.
Two of our current capital project initiatives include the Cigar Bar and new windows for the Champions Grille and Ladies Locker Room The Cigar bar is still on track to be completed at the end of this month and we are looking forward to having it open for all members to enjoy during the Masters in early April All of the new furniture has arrived and the new floor has been installed We have opened up the ceiling and removed the old HVAC ductwork, which included several systems from over the years to make room for the new system The major HVAC component, ERV, exhausts the smoky air out and brings the fresh air in, is shipping on the 7th and should be on site by the 13th This was the item we were most concerned about receiving on time I would like to personally thank Tim Nickert, Chief Engineer, and his team for their hard work and dedication throughout this entire project The new Pella windows for the Champions Grille and Ladies Locker Room were ordered a couple weeks ago and we are looking at a mid-April installation time frame
This is the ideal time of year to encourage new membership growth and the best recruitment method is word of mouth by current members Please take the time to tell your friends and colleagues why you are a member at DGC and the benefits it provides for you and your family Please contact Lena Angott, Membership and Communications Director, to help with the recruitment and sponsorship process She can assist with tours and answer all questions about the Club and our amenities
The staff and I are very excited to show how many great things we have in store for you and your families I look forward to seeing you around the Club soon!

The Sponsor/Endorser is required to introduce the perspective member at the Meet & Greet If recommended by the Membership Committee the perspective member’s name and biographical data will be posted for at least two (2) weeks in the clubhouse During the posting period any member of the club knowing of any good reason why a request for membership should not be approved should communicate this to the Board of Directors

As we welcome the warmer temperatures of February, it's important to be mindful of the agronomic challenges that come with an early spring We've been closely monitoring our growing degree days (GDD) since the start of the year For those unfamiliar, GDD is calculated using the equation GDD = [(T MAX + T MIN ) / 2] - T BASE, where TMAX and TMIN represent the daily maximum and minimum air temperatures, respectively, and TBASE is the base temperature Once we reach approximately 200 GDD, it will be time for the first application of our seed head suppression product A second application will follow about 3-4 weeks later It's important to note that even with perfect timing, the best outcome we can achieve is approximately 90% Poa seed head suppression
Another significant consideration during early spring is the freeze-thaw cycle. As the turf freezes overnight and then thaws the following day, it can cause upheaval on our playing surfaces. Additionally, these milder temperatures can lead to underground root damage on surfaces that are opened too early in the season. This phenomenon, known as root shear, occurs when there's a thawed top layer and a frozen bottom layer, especially when combined with traffic. To learn more about this, please watch this informative video;
https://www.usga.org/content/usga/home-page/course-care/green-
As always, we appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we navigate through these challenges to ensure the best possible conditions for our golf course. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out.
