Chete Island is otherwise uninhabited and abounds in wildlife including elephant, lion, leopard, hyena, hippo, crocodile and a wide variety of antelope. There are more than 170 species of birds.

The island is stocked with plains game and guests can enjoy pleasant game walks. A rowing boat and two-man canoes are also provided for fishing trips in the bay and around the island. Other activities include bird watching. The lodge is made up of three twin-bedded chalets each equipped with flush toilets and hot and cold water, mosquito nets and
battery-powered lights There are self-catering facilities including a fully-equipped kitchen and the services of a full-time cook plus fridge, freezer, gas stove and braai. There is also a large thatched dining room, sun deck and a small swimming pool. Transfers from the mainland to the island are by fishing rig. Guests with speed boats are also welcome to bring them.

Set in four hectares, the resort is nestled in a secluded wooded area on the shores of the Lake with beach frontage and magnificent views to the Matusodona Mountains. All chalets are fully mosquito proofed and air-conditioned. The restaurant offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, and a swimming pool with shady patio. There’s a thatched bar on the beach where you can relax with a beer or two. There is also a camp site situated among the trees complete with hot and cold showers and toilets.
In terms of activities, there are day and sunset cruises, fishing, boating, and one-to-four-day canoe safaris on the Zambezi from the Dam wall through the magnificent Kariba gorge and onwards through the Zambezi valley. Visits to the Dam Wall and the Power Station and local croc farms can also be arranged. Eagles Rest is also the home of the 20-metre houseboat Bateleur, which sleeps up to 12 and has a crew of four.
