TRANSFENNICA
Multipurpose operator provides versatility and speed
Part of the Amsterdam-based Spliethoff Group, Transfennica is a liner-shipping carrier operating highly ice-strengthened multipurpose ro-ro vessels within the SECA area. Transfennica provides fast transport routes between Continental Europe, Estonia, Finland and Russia using specialised, multipurpose, highly ice-strengthened ro-ro vessels. Its versatile ships carry all kinds of general cargo including sto-ro, mobile cargoes, containers, trailers, cassettes, roll-trailers and
project cargoes as well as IMDG-classified goods and temperature-controlled units. The company’s fleet of equipment consists of over 5,000 units of roll-trailers, cassettes and 20 ft, 40 ft and 45 ft high-cube, pallet-wide containers. In anticipation of the new environmental regulations implemented on 1 January 2015 (revised Annex VI to Marpol 73/78), the company installed the world’s first multi-inlet exhaust gas cleaning system in the vessel ‘Plyca’ in October 2012. After more than a
year of successful operation, the company’s other five con-ro ships were retrofitted with the ‘scrubber’ system in the course of drydockings in 2014. To cater for different customer requirements and changes in the trade, Transfennica has offices in Amsterdam, Antwerp, Gdynia, Kotka, Helsinki, Lübeck, Paldiski, St Petersburg and Tilbury. Transfennica (UK) Ltd was established in Tilbury in 1998 and currently operates shipping services from the London Paper Terminal on Berth 47. It offers one of the fastest connections from Tilbury to St Petersburg with two sailings a week. Its direct sailing on Friday between Tilbury and Hanko is also very popular with freight forwarders and trailer customers due to its fast transit time.
Partnership Within this network, the company has some 100 skilled people working in active partnership with customers and suppliers. It uses an extensive online information network to manage the full scope of operations and electronic links with its customers. Together with its customers, Transfennica is working hard to further develop express services.
