Jacana Camp Jacana Camp, just west of the Moremi Game Reserve, is owned and operated by Ngamiland Adventure Safaris. It is set in an area densely populated with the beautiful red lechwe, sitatunga and wattled cranes.

Accommodation is in five Meru-style tents, each on raised wooden platforms with deck, with entrancing views over the lagoon and floodplains. The en-suite bathroom is enclosed but roofless.

It is a true water camp on a small island surrounded by water for most of the year. Jacana offers mokoro and walking safaris all year round as well as day and night game drives when the floodwaters have subsided – generally between October and April. Big game such as elephant, lion and leopard are regularly found in the area, depending on flood levels. Birdlife is abundant.

The main dining area is on an elevated wooden deck between two enormous sycamore fig trees, and surrounded by dense wild date palms. Downstairs, there is a cosy pub and lounge with a large viewing deck, an open area to sit around a fire and view the stars. To one side there is a small plunge pool.

Jao Camp has premier accommodation in nine beautiful and spacious tents. Each room is built on raised wooden decks beneath the canopy of the large trees and has a private sala for afternoon siestas with views of the floodplains.

All rooms have en-suite bathrooms with an inside and an outside shower as well as a bath. Raised walkways link the rooms to the long house inspired main area. The camp features a wine cellar and a salon with a full-time therapist offering a wide range of therapies. There is an excellent curio shop. In addition to the well appointed dining room and lounge pub area there is an open-air boma for dining beside a fire under the stars.
