My visual language

Drawing has always been a part of my life. Even as a child, I was very curious about every shape and colour from the outside world and reproduced it on all the surfaces around me, including the walls at home. As I grew up, I went to explore places close to home and fell in love with the diversity of nature. Thanks to my interest in landscapes and particularly in the naturalistic/floral world, I grew day by day as a which you can see in my portfolio.

Step by step, I started to use almost all known techniques: pastels, acrylics, watercolours, etc. I went through various stages, guided more by the use of colours than by techniques. Quality contrasts with desaturated tones are my favourite: they contain the elegance and emotion I look for in my illustrations. Lately I have been using stronger contrasts with complementary colours that enhance each other, capable of evoking more ima-

ginative and lively themes. Lately I have been using stronger contrasts with complementary colors that enhance each other, capable of evoking more imaginative and vivid themes. Over the years I have become increasingly interested in digital painting. It is a complicated art, though seemingly simple to achieve, but one that can give great satisfaction.

I enjoy creating coordinated and balanced palettes using digital techniques; there is a wide variety of color columns to work with.

My style likes to mix traditional marks with flat digital brushstrokes. All this to create mysterious and bittersweet atmospheres.

My name is Simona Riccomi, but I have chosen to use a stage name that suits me better than my first name: lamelaconica. I chose this special name for two reasons: to recall my pleasantly dramatic nature, but also to remember that my unconditional love for white chocolate leads me to develop two cheeks of remarkable cheerfulness. I always knew that drawing would help me to live, to escape and, why not, to dream. I first became a graphic designer and then broadened my interests to other drawing-related disciplines. Over time I obtained a qualification as a tattoo artist

ABOUT ME

(hence my passion for botanical designs) and for a while I was involved in the creation of handmade jewellery, from wax models to casting. The beauty of the artistic world is the possibility to integrate everything you learn, to update everything with new techniques and knowledge: somehow you can become a new person. This is my goal as an illustrator.
